Course Curriculum Overview

I had choosen this course as I have a great interest in mathematics. And learning mathematics with Statistical approach is really helpful for me as it makes be better to understand the concept of real data. For now the curriculum is prepared for only for 1st year and further information is not known. For now their is not much improvement needed and their are 2 tutorials and classes each week in which the doubts of assignments and tests get clarified on tutorial classes. This course helps us to collect data from various topics and help people become more efficient.

Campus Life

In ISI Delhi there are not much sports related programs and there is access to library in the college from morning 9 am to evening 5 pm. Their is also access to E- library through which we can learn in online. There is Wi-Fi being provided by the institute and also there are sport like football, volleyball, table tennis and badminton to play. For now we don't have any clubs relating to any kind of social activities. But there are groups which are divided by our on the basis of interest of our subject.

College Events

Annual techno cultural fest - INTEGRATION held usually in the first three weekends of February.Brilliant library facility(including e-library) with helpful librarians. Various antique books and journals are well preserved both in online and offline mode. However there are restrictions on the maximum number of books a student can keep at any point of time. These numbers is different for different courses(typically 3 books at a time for bachelors students and 4 books at a time for masters students).Classrooms are well maintained and spacious. Post covid times projector facility is available in almost 60-70% of the classrooms.Various sports events in cricket, football, table tennis, badminton, carrom, chess, cards etc are conducted throughout the year (some by the institute and rest by the sports committee in the hostel).Since the number of students is too few, no such clubs or websites are there. But there are some student run committees to look after various student issues like General Affairs committee, Sports committee, Mess committee etc. However, several events on sports, quiz, treasure hunt, musical night etc are arranged by the hostel committees.

Placement Experience

Undergraduate students are not allowed for placements. Masters students can sit for placements which starts at the beginning of third semester. Apart from that some students also get PPO after completing there internship at the end of first year of Masters or final year of undergrad. Companies like Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JPMC, Deloitte, Microsoft, Google, Intuit, UBS, Amazon etc.(all the names can be found in the placement brochure published by the institute and available online)According to 2021-2022 placement statistics for M.Stat. course:Highest package: 56 LPAAverage package: 22 LPAMedian package: 19 LPA(Placement statistics for previous years can be found in the placement brochure published by the institute and available online)Every year around 50% of the students completing M.Stat. go for PhD (mostly abroad but some prefer ISI) and remaining 50% go for a job. 100% of those students who go for a job get placed. My plans after completing M.Stat.: As of now, I wish to go for a PhD but is stuck in the situation of "PhD vs job".

Campus Life

The campus life is extremely amazing since we have very less number of students, every student nearly knows everyone else personally. Students from different states come together at this institution. Even I'm from Haryana and studying here in Kolkata. The gender ratio isn't very good, around 4× more boys than girls. Not much competitions are held. Students are from various economic status too. Infact, my father's average salary is around 10-15K a month and I'm studying here far from my home since I don't need to take any monetary help from my family.

Course Curriculum Overview

Indian Statistical Institute, generally referred to ISI, is a research institute and the curriculum is also mostly designed according to that and thus demands extremely hard work and effort to put in. But this curriculum also attracts many corporate organizations and the average payment for my batch this year also was around 20 LPA. No industrial visit is done and I don't think it's even needed.

I got to know about this institute through the graduates of this college, they had all good things to say about the university. During the admission to the college, my graduation mark sheet was asked with the application form.

Campus Life

The people are educated enough to understand that all people in the society deserve to live a life with dignity. Also this is our fundamental right as well. So no one creates or makes someone else feel that they are inferior or superior.

Placement Experience

The placements are just fine. Honestly, I have been in such circumstances where after which I just do not believe in campus placement. This college is not at fault at all. A lot of people of my batch got genuinely placed.

Remarks

I am very much satisfied with Indian Statistical Institute and their undivided dedication towards the research work. College campus is pretty good and we had access to all the latest research and analytical tools. First hand experience of these tools was very valuable.

Placement Experience

The placements are not that good. Most of our college pass-outs got job proposals right here within the campus. And many even took the job at the college itself. The course made us capable of procuring jobs in profiles like consultancy, analytical research, etc.

Admission

I got admission on the basis of my entrance test scores. Actually, after clearing the entrance exam I was called for the interview round. My interview was very critical, the panel tore me to shreds but I handled most of the questions pretty decently.

Fee Structure And Facilities

My annual fee was around 20,000 per month and for the two year program, I paid 40k, which is pretty much feasible especially if you look at the high paying jobs you stand to secure after that. The facilities and amenities provided are good.

Ques. How is the MSc Applied Statistics and Informatics course in IIT Bombay?

● Top Answer By Adwait Tejas on 17 Mar 23

Ans.  MSc Applied Statistics and Infometrics at IIT Bombay can be challenging for some students who did their B.Sc from Mumbai University, especially if they did not receive sufficient training in statistics. In comparison to Delhi University and Calcutta University, the Mumbai University curriculum is relatively deficient in statistical topics. Consequently, most of the students in the class come from DU and CU. While DU and CU students are often comfortable during the first quarter or half of the semester since they studied similar topics in their bachelor's programs, Mumbai University students may struggle to keep up. Despite the challenges, this course is in line with current analytics trends in the market. The course requires students to complete not only statistics courses but also intermediate-level computer science courses such as C, C++, Data Structures, and Applied Algorithms. Students also receive some exposure to statistical software, depending on which software the professor prefers: SaS or R.Read more

Ques. Which one has got better placement and higher average packages ISI kolkata M.Stat or math and computing from any of the 5 old IITs?

● Top Answer By Sagnik Chakraborty on 16 Sept 21

Ans. I have friends studying in ISI Kolkata and old IITs. Based on my conversations with them, I will say there is no doubt that M.stat students from ISI have better chances of landing jobs with really lucrative salaries. You will be surprised by the fact that ISI is known for its 100% placement ratio for M.Stat. This is not the case you would be able to find in any IIT whether old or new. Even if you pursue a B.tech degree from IIT Bombay (an old and reputed IIT), the institute never succeeds in maintaining a cent-percent placement record. You can even cross-check the stats from IIT Bombay’s website. Students studying mathematics and computing students from IITs, most of them are more inclined toward research careers than jobs. M.Stat degree from ISI is unique in India. The course is highly reputed and the institute itself is far ahead of most Indian institutes in the field of stats, math, and economics. I have attached a video that will brief you on the ISI Placement scenario Overall, ISI stands as a premier institute for fields especially related to stats, math, and economics with a 100% placement ratio.Read more

It is quite easy to convert to Pondicherry University even if you are a little serious about your studies.  The university conducts its own entrance test every year. You need to clear the test to get admission here. For the test, you need to be moderately prepared (depending on the level of the student) and practice the last 4-5 years of the question paper. The level is easy Most people aim for the IITs, IISc, and ISI Kolkata before joining this university if they do not get a chance there. You can get an idea of the level of the university. The course is good with excellent faculty and a good study environment, more freedom and no academic or social pressures. So it would be a wise decision to join here if you do not get the top colleges.Read more

Ques. Which is better M.Sc. Statistics from Mumbai University or NMIMS?

● Top Answer By Nivedita Trivedi on 03 Jul 23

Ans. NMIMS is a better option than Mumbai University for MSc Statistics because of these simple reasons NMIMS has much better infrastructure than Mumbai University and offers better facilities and campus life. Better recruiters visit NMIMS and the placement scenario is much better than Mumbai University.  The processors at NMIMS are very approachable and helpful in contrast to MU The teaching staff is better than Mumbai University and they are quite cooperative with students as compared to MU professors that despite being learned refuse to help students. NMIMS ensures proper attendance to classes while Mumbai Univeristy has a pathetic attendance scenario. Ques. How's the M.Sc. statistics at Bharathiar University?

● Top Answer By Harsha Jha, on 23 Nov 21

Ans. One of my friends studied at Bharathiar University (BU). According to him, if you can study on your own without the regular guidance of teachers, you can opt for BU. Here if you want to learn something, you have to do it for yourself, as the faculty members wont guide you step by step. BU has a huge library from which you can get the required study materials. So if you are someone who does not require a methodical guidance and can learn on your own, BU will be fine for you.Read more
