Ques. What should I choose between NIT Surathkal CSE and IIT Kanpur civil chemical

● Top Answer By Aditi Banerjee on 19 Apr 23

Ans. I would recommend you choose IIT over NIT any day irrespective of the branch because it is recognized globally. The quality of packages and roles offered are also better and with the right motivation and determination, one can even change his branch to a better one. At IIT Kanpur, I would advise you to go for Chemical rather than Civil. BTech Chemical Engineering combined with Masters in Petroleum Engineering is the highest paying bracket in the USA with more than 74000 Jobs available for outsiders in the Middle East, US, and Canada at a five yr median of $ 18600. Additionally, at IIT Kanpur the ocean of electives to choose from enables you to pursue CS course side by side through certifications in 64/128/256 bit SSL Encryption, Data Structures, and Oracle which have great importance. While CS students can be found everywhere, you will find only a few Chemical Engineers. Concludingly, it’s best to go for IIT Kanpur Chemical for the long term or IIT Kanpur Civil with a branch change to EEE or Mechanical in mind.Read more

Ques. Which one is better: taking mechanical engineering at IIT BHU or civil engineering in IIT Roorkee?

● Top Answer By Harsh on 03 Jul 24

Ans. I am a B.Tech Civil student at IIT Roorkee. Here’s a comparison between the two options- Parameters IIT Roorkee Civil IIT BHU Mechanical Average Package INR 18 LPA INR 21.95 LPA (around 80% students get placed) Top Recruiters on campus Larsen, Turbo, Tata, Sprinklr, Jio, L&T, Godrej, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Zepto, Google, Jaguar Land Rover. Amazon, American Express, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, Google, ITC Ltd., Microsoft, Oracle, Paytm, etc. Research Facilities One of the best research facilities at the Civil Engineering Department of IIT Roorkee. Ample research opportunities and well-equipped laboratories. One important thing that my friends told me is that the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT BHU is one of the strictest departments in India. It makes the students question their own potential. The department professors are very strict and the coursework is extremely rigorous. The students are given assignments and projects which they have to complete within a day. I would suggest you choose IIT Roorkee Civil as it offers the same facilities and placements as IIT BHU Mechanical. Moreover, the Civil department at IITR is not as strict as the Mechanical department at IIT BHU.Read more

Ques. Which is better, IITD civil or IIT Dhanbad for CS?

● Top Answer By Akrit Shaha on 11 Oct 23

Ans. Since you haven’t mentioned the branch you are interested in, I will assume you have no particular preference. Now, the primary factor to consider is if you value the brand of the college or the branch of your choice. Consider the following points  You can go for a less preferred branch at the top 5 IITs and then work hard for branch change. But this would be risky as branch change is very difficult. If your target is to get placed with excellent packages, then choose the CSE branch, it has the best job opportunities. You can also choose to work for noncore placements at the top 5 IITs. However, this will be very time-consuming as you have to manage both your noncore branch and CSE.  The best option would be to choose IIT Dhanbad CSE. It’s true that it won’t offer the opportunities and exposure that the top 5 IITs would but for me branch is more important than the brand name of the college. So, choose according to your preferences. Read more

Ques. What is the highest package offered to a civil engineering student from NIT TRICHY?

● Top Answer By Prateek Chaturvedi on 04 Sept 21

Ans. I am assuming that you are asking about core civil job profiles. According to my friend at NIT Trichy the placement record for the Civil Engineering branch is quite good. Here is the placement trend for the branch.  Year Civil Engineering 2019-20 81.7% 2018-19 92.1% 2017-18 83.6% According to the placement highlights of the past few years for Civil Engineering the highest CTC offered by the recruiting companies is around 17 LPA. During the placement drive 2020, the average package offered was INR 6 LPA. More job offers are made to the civil engineers from companies such as Oil and other related companies. The salary package offered by a few conglomerates like L&T varies from INR 6.2 LPA for IITians, INR 5.11 LPA for NITians, to INR 3.6 for Local/Private Colleges. This is the general trend. It varies depending on the academic year. Read more

Ques. How is civil at MNNIT Allahabad?

● Top Answer By Ronit Sharma on 29 Apr 21

Ans. If you strictly want a 7-figure salary during the campus placements, then Civil Engineering is not for you, neither here at MNNIT Allahabad, nor at any other institute. Even IIT Bombay placement offers will not look lucrative compared to their other branches.  The actual reasons for which you should consider Civil Engineering at MNNIT Allahabad are as follows. Higher Studies : The GATE 2017 top 4 rank holders were from MNNIT Allahabad as was the 2nd rank holder in GATE 2016 in the Civil Engineering paper.  Faculty: The faculty is much better than their non-core counterparts and is highly motivated to make their students flourish in the entrance exams. The results speak for themselves. Opportunities other than private companies – Government departments such as Public Works Department (PWD), Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE), Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH), National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), and various others who select candidates through Engineering Services Examination (ESE). Maharatna and Navratna PSUs take candidates who qualify GATE exam. Private Sector: Private Companies such as Gammon, L&T not only visit campus but also conduct off-campus drives and recruit students. Although the initial salary will be lower than top private IT companies. So, if you are genuinely interested in civil engineering then there would not be any dearth of opportunities after completing the degree. Read more

Ques. How is NIT Jamshedpur for civil engineering in terms of placement?

● Top Answer By Rohan Dubey on 15 Mar 24

Ans. B.Tech Civil students get good placement opportunities at decent core companies at NIT Jamshedpur. A good number of non core companies also visit the department for placements.  But by ‘good’ I do not mean very high packages that you can boast of. If this is what you are looking for, you’ll be disappointed. Core branches like Mechanical, Production, Metallurgy and Civil receive decent placements. One can expect very high packages in these branches when studying at top rated institutes like the old IITs and BITS Pilani.  L&T, St.Gobain, Bridge and Roof Corp, Vedanta and ECC offer decent packages to B.Tech Civil students. Most analytics firms allow Civil students to sit for placements, and offer decent packages as well. Capgemini is among the IT firms which allow Civil students, and offer decent packages. BPCL offers comparatively high packages, but allows only top 5 students to apply. JUSCO visits every 2-3 years and offers high packages.  Last year, 97.29% students were successfully placed from B.Tech Civil during NIT Jamshedpur placements. The highest package for the branch was 20 LPA, and the average package was 9.57 LPA.  Instead of just looking at the placement stats, you should also consider your interests and the future prospects of a branch before stepping into it.Read more

Ques. Should I go for civil engineering or metallurgy and material science engineering in NIT Trichy?

● Top Answer By Sreeja Prasad on 31 Aug 21

Ans. I would suggest you go for metallurgy if you plan to do a job right after completing your degree. Metallurgy has more job opportunities to offer. With Metallurgy, you can easily learn coding and go for tech companies. NIT Trichy has a great coding culture, so picking up coding skills will not be difficult.  If you plan to prepare for civil services or any other government job, I would suggest you go for civil engineering. When compared to metallurgy, there are fewer job opportunities in the civil department. If you plan on doing an MBA after having done your engineering, you can opt for either of them because then it does not matter anyway.Read more
