Peers: It’s the cream students who get the opportunity to get into a prestigious college like XLRI. You can see tough competition between the finest students at college. Every individual has a valuable opinion and stands to contradict others. Their thinking pattern is broad and given a case study, they look at all angles from accounting to finance to laws while proposing the solution. The situation at TISS is also quite similar. Now one can say that the curriculum can be replicated and learned faculty can be sought to match the quality of the HR program at these institutes. But the truth is faculty and curriculum are the main but not the only factors that determine an institute's worth. Its own culture, ethics, and background have a lot to do with the programs it offers. So one cannot match XLRIs programs no matter how much they try.

MBA At XIMB

For admission to MBA program, candidates need to have passed a bachelor’s degree with at least 55% marks. Admissions are based on CAT/XAT/XGMT(Conducted by XIM University), followed by WAT, GD & PI. Intense academic pressure. The rigorous curriculum and demanding schedules can be overwhelming for some students.

Fees and Financial Aid:

The 1st year tution fee for the MBA-BM is 13.4 lakhs and for 2nd year is 11.6 lakhs. Caution money is 20000, it is one time payment and refundable after the course completion. Hostel charges are charged based on the type of room students want, if it is single room then the charge is around Rs. 55000 while for the shared rooms the charge is around Rs. 45000. Other compulsory charge is that students need to pay Rs. 10000 in first year to student executive council committee for the functions and cultural events that are being organized in the college.

Fees and Financial Aid:

The fee is around 22 lakhs exclusive of stay, food, and other amenities. Several banks provide loans for the fee, like SBI, HDFC, etc. The campus provides placements and summer internship opportunities as well, that provide a good return on investment.

I am not sure about the free hike policy. The cost to study is 22lakhs for the two years which includes reading material, Bloomberg fees, etc. There is no scholarship given. Loans are easy to secure. There are a no. of live projects, they can apply to those provided by the College.

A glimpse into the life at XIMB

Fees and Financial Aid:

The total course fee for two years comes around 22 lacs. It generally stays in the same spectrum over the years. As far as I am aware, there are no scholarships as such and for the financial assistance, the college provides the contact of banks that provide student loans without asking for any collateral. I got placed in Vedant Fashions Ltd. as a Business development intern, gaining a stipend of around 80K consolidated. The experience of working here was unparalleled as I learnt a lot of things, gained interest in the same and felt that I could grow in this field.

There is no such course as XIMB HRM. The HR School of XUB, XAHR, offers the HRM course. Pursuing this degree is certainly worth the money invested. Xavier School of Human Resource Management placements has an average CTC of INR 12.9 LPA. While the highest CTC goes up to INR 22.5 LPA. Many students get salary packages in INR 20 LPA slab.

The XUB thing hasn’t made any major impacts. The faculty is same, the selection criteria are same, and so is the list of recruiting companies.

IRMA seems to have it all - top faculty, great infrastructure, excellent campus, and extensive exposure. It is well known for its specialization in Rural Management and becomes the best choice when it comes to RM aspirants. Before I go on, let me clarify a much common misconception about the Rural Management and Development Sector. The assumptions that the pay in the Development sector is extremely low and IRMA provides no corporate exposure are outright false.

I know a friend who gave up a scholarship at another B School for Rural Management at IRMA. He made this decision despite knowing it will be more hectic because of the 3 field components unlike 1 in the case of other B Schools.

There is an additional social sector course like Rural Society and Polity for instance. The main purpose of these courses is to broaden your tour horizon as IRMA serves the majority of the Indian population living in villages, who have a different set of problems and require a different type of thinking to solve them.

IRMA has 2 camps - pro-market and pro-development that respect each other. Such harmony leads to a better understanding of both pros and cons, and students can initiate a response to an emerging economy.

This field required an emphatic and sensitive attitude with monetary benefits not being the primary goal. The earning capacity is not exactly poor and the placement figures reveal 100% opportunities. Additionally, IRMA’s Social Entrepreneurship Cell is a haven for future entrepreneurs.

IRMA boasts of a rich alumni culture because they take pride in being an IRMAn which was possible after multiple efforts and hard work. The alumni connection ensures constant motivation and advice shared based on real-life experiences.

Overall IRMA offers a roller coaster of experiences you won’t forget in your entire life.

To begin with, let me tell you that XIMB offers MBA-BM whereas XAHR offers MBA-HRM. XAHR or Xaviers School of Human Resource Management was started after the immense success of the HRM program of XIMB.

Get a clear idea of the various arenas and specializations of Management and the required skills. Both the courses deal with very important elements of Management but HRM specifically deals with the primary asset of any company, The employees.

My friend was a student at XIMB and all the points mentioned below are based on his experience at XIMB.

Location: Located at the center of the city, no commute difficulties are posed and you can access all off-campus facilities with ease. But the new campus is a bit far from the city and is bigger. Both campuses have world-class facilities.
Campus Life: Life at XIMB is rigorous and lively and you will always be occupied with classes, committee elections, quizzes, case study competitions, cultural events, and guest lectures. But this rigor will help you learn time management. Nightlife on campus is exciting as a number of exciting things take place at night
Friendships: Every good college experience requires a good group of friends without which your survival might become more difficult. This friendship will stay with you throughout the year.
Hostel: The hostel life is thrilling and you will develop an affinity for your Hostel and your Hostel Block will become your pride and identity.
Faculty: The faculty reside within the campus and are some of the best in the country.
Case Study Competitions: You can participate in all the major case study competitions to portray your business problem-solving skills.

The level of exposure and diversity is almost higher than in Government colleges. IITs, DFS and DSE MBAs have a more theoretical approach than a practical one. However, the figures for private B schools are inflated so do consider the ups and downs.

XUB is not exactly different from XIMB. XUB comprises more schools like

school of commerce
school of mass communication
school of economics and sustainability development

In addition there are several PG courses like MBF and it now even offers graduation in Science. Despite the variety of courses offered, the primary focus is MBA. While at XIMB the only course offered is MBA.

Both the campuses are well built far from the city saving them from hectic city traffic. XUM still has some buildings under construction. Excellent food and transport facilities make them a more attractive choice.

Of the two, XIMB was established earlier so enjoys more brand name and value than XUB. XIMB value can be determined through All India Rankings which is not possible in the case of XUB.

It covers immersion courses on current issues, seminars, workshops and interaction with industry experts.
In the first two semesters, students get inputs on the basic areas such as Financial Accounting, Financial Management, Corporate Laws, Statistics, Economics, Research Methodology, MIS, Quantitative Techniques, and many more. These core courses set the foundation for more advanced courses such as Project Planning, Appraisal and Finance, Behavioral Finance, Financial Modeling, Business Analytics, Corporate Tax Planning, and so on.
In the fourth-semester students will be required to opt for the electives of their choice. Currently, two sets of elective specializations are ‘Banking and Insurance’, and ‘Finance’, out of which each student will have to select one.
While the program covers a wide range of courses, 'finance’ remains the main focus area.
The knowledge base of the students also gets further strengthened by summer projects, immersion courses on current issues, seminars, workshops and interaction with industry experts.
