NICER Admission FAQs

Ques. What is the minimum NEST score required for NICER admission?

Ques. Is NEST compulsory for all NICER programs?

Ans. NICER requires NEST only for the Integrated M.Sc. program. For Ph.D. programs, they accept national examinations like GATE, CSIR-NET, JEST, and DBT. M.Sc. (MRP) program requires JAM or JEST qualification, followed by an institutional selection process.

Ques. Can students from an Arts/Commerce background apply to NICER?

Ans. NICER primarily admits students from a Science background for its core programs. However, for certain interdisciplinary programs and Humanities & Social Sciences courses, they may consider students from an Arts background with appropriate qualifications and entrance test performance.

Ques. Does NICER provide placement assistance?

Ans. NICER has a Career Development Cell that facilitates placements and internships. However, most NICER graduates pursue higher studies (Ph.D.) at premier institutions worldwide. Students who opt for industry placements receive attractive packages in research organisations and technology companies.

I had also applied for IISER's but I chose niser over them due to its reputable state so I can pursue PhD from foreign institutes. Also one more thing I have seen many place that you can give direct interview in BARC after doing Msc but there is a twist that BARC has very low vacancies(1-2) so please don't consider that factor to join here. To join niser you need to give NEST exam so keep an eye on that and to crack it just solve pyqs it will be sufficient.

I choosed NISER because the courts I wanted to pursue is more strong here and also It directly comes under Department of atomic energy and I can get recommendation to DRDO for working as a scientist. The only way one can get into the institute is through national entrance cum screening test or NEST . After giving nest one have to select either this institute or University of Mumbai.

We have to give a national entrance screening test (NEST), conducted in CBT mode, through this exam applicants can also apply for CEBS, we have to clear cut off of PCMB subjects and the best of 3 marks will be considered for the final rank to get a seat in NISER. The cut-off is usually AIR 400 Rank for the general category.
