VESIT ME FAQs
Ques. Is GATE mandatory for ME Instrumentation Engineering admission at VESIT, or can I apply without a GATE score?
Ans. GATE is mandatory for admission to ME programmes at VESIT through the Maharashtra State CAP process. The State CET Cell does not conduct a separate entrance test for ME/M.Tech admissions in Maharashtra; the entire merit list is prepared based on GATE scores. However, VESIT also offers a limited number of seats under the Institute Level (Against CAP / ACAP) quota, where candidates who have a GATE score but were not allotted a seat through CAP rounds can apply directly to the institute. Candidates without a GATE score are generally not eligible for ME admission at VESIT.
Ques. Which GATE paper should I appear in for ME Instrumentation Engineering at VESIT?
Ans. The most relevant GATE paper for ME Instrumentation Engineering is Instrumentation Engineering (IN). However, candidates with a GATE score in Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC) or Electrical Engineering (EE) may also be considered, depending on the eligibility criteria set by DTE Maharashtra for the specific course. It is advisable to check the official information brochure released by the State CET Cell each year for the exact list of eligible GATE papers for this course at VESIT.
Ques. What is the actual total fee I will pay for the ME programme at VESIT, including all charges?
Ans. The official fee structure for 2025-26 shows a total of Rs. 65,506 per year for General category students from Mumbai University (excluding exam fees). Over 2 years, this amounts to approximately Rs. 1,31,012. Additionally, exam fees are collected separately before each semester examination. Students from outside Maharashtra (OMS) pay a slightly higher amount due to additional enrollment and eligibility fees. SC/ST candidates from Mumbai University pay only Rs. 5,506 per year as tuition and development fees are waived. The fee structure for 2026-27 may be revised by the AFRC (Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee) of Maharashtra.
Ques. How many seats are available in ME Instrumentation Engineering at VESIT, and how competitive is the admission?
Ans. There are 18 seats in ME Instrumentation Engineering at VESIT. Of these, 80% (approximately 14-15 seats) are filled through the Maharashtra State CAP process based on GATE scores, and the remaining 20% (approximately 3-4 seats) are Institute Level / Management quota seats. Given the small intake and VESIT's reputation as one of Mumbai's top engineering colleges, the programme is competitive. Candidates with a strong GATE score in the IN paper and a good academic record in their undergraduate degree have a better chance of securing admission.
Ques. Does VESIT's ME Instrumentation Engineering programme have good industry connections and placement support?
Ans. VESIT's Department of Automation and Robotics (which offers this programme) has strong industry linkages, particularly in Mumbai's manufacturing, process, and automation sectors. The department has received recognition from the International Society of Automation (ISA), and students have been awarded ISA scholarships. The institute has collaborations with industry partners and conducts internships and projects in collaboration with companies. However, dedicated placement data exclusive to the ME Instrumentation programme is not publicly available, as placement statistics are typically reported at the institute level. Students are encouraged to check with the department directly for the latest placement information.
Ques. Can I pursue ME Instrumentation Engineering at VESIT while working, or is attendance mandatory?
Ans. The ME Instrumentation Engineering programme at VESIT is a full-time on-campus programme. Regular attendance is mandatory as per University of Mumbai norms (minimum 75% attendance is required to be eligible for examinations). The programme is not available in part-time or distance mode. However, VESIT does offer a sponsored category under the CAP process, where candidates sponsored by their employer can apply. Sponsored candidates typically have their fees paid by their employer and may have some flexibility in scheduling, but the programme structure remains full-time.
