VESIT's Master of Computer Applications (MCA) is a 2-year full-time postgraduate programme affiliated to the University of Mumbai and approved by AICTE, offered at the Chembur campus in Mumbai. The programme is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge in computer science and applications, covering areas such as data structures and algorithms, database management systems, software engineering, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, blockchain, and deep learning. With an intake of 120 seats, the MCA at VESIT is one of the most sought-after PG programmes in Mumbai for computer applications, owing to the college's strong placement record, autonomous curriculum, and proximity to Mumbai's thriving IT industry. The total fees for the programme are approximately Rs. 2.39 lakhs for General category students (Mumbai University graduates) over 2 years. Admission is through MAH MCA CET scores via the Maharashtra CAP process.

Admissions for the 2026-27 academic year are upcoming. MAH MCA CET 2026 was held on March 30, 2026, with results expected in May 2026. CAP counselling for MCA is expected to begin in July 2026, with batch commencement in August 2026.

VESIT: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 9 Reviews

Admission to the MCA program is based on the MAH-MCA-CET exam, with rankings crucial for the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) through three rounds. Admissions are influenced by scores, reservations, and quotas, including a management quota and Sindhi community seats. The college faculty is generally supportive, though teaching quality varies, with some lectures deemed ineffective. The faculty includes 12-15 members, with a structured teaching system and assessments across two semesters annually.

The college offers flexible, affordable fees, approximately 80,000 INR yearly or 220,000 INR total for three years, with options for partial payments. Despite being an engineering college, the fees are among the lowest in the city. Placement opportunities are decent, with companies like TCS and Accenture visiting, offering salaries between 2.5 to 5.0 Lacs, and an effective placement cell placing around 50% of students. Internships, primarily in software development, are competitive.

Scholarships and fee waivers are available for merit and financial needs, with notable ones like the Sir Ratan Tata Trust Scholarship covering up to 70% of fees for top students. Government scholarships for economically backward groups are also supported, significantly reducing fees for eligible categories. The college aids students in applying for these scholarships, offering reductions from 98,000 INR to 20,000 INR for SC/ST students. Overall, the college balances affordability with decent placement and scholarship opportunities.

VESIT MCA FAQs

Ques. Is VESIT MCA worth it for placements, and how does it compare to B.Tech placements at the same college?

Ans. VESIT MCA students participate in the same campus placement drives as B.Tech students, which gives them access to a wide range of recruiters. However, most high-paying companies like JP Morgan, Nomura, and Morgan Stanley primarily recruit B.Tech (CS/IT) students. MCA students are typically recruited by IT services companies like Accenture, TCS, Capgemini, LTI Mindtree, and Oracle Financial Services Software (OFSS). The average package for MCA students is approximately 5-6 LPA, which is decent for a 2-year PG programme. Students who build strong coding skills, work on projects, and prepare well for technical interviews tend to get better offers. Overall, VESIT MCA is considered one of the better MCA programmes in Mumbai given the college's placement infrastructure.

Ques. What is the eligibility for VESIT MCA and is Mathematics mandatory at graduation level?

Ans. To be eligible for VESIT MCA, candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree (minimum 3 years) in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (45% for reserved categories). Mathematics must have been studied either at the 10+2 (HSC) level or as a subject during graduation. This is a common point of confusion: if you did not have Mathematics in 12th standard, you can still be eligible if you had a Mathematics-related subject (like Business Mathematics, Statistics, or Discrete Mathematics) during your graduation. Candidates must also have a valid MAH MCA CET score for admission through the Maharashtra CAP process.

Ques. What is the difference between Mumbai University (MU) and Other than Mumbai University (OMU) category in VESIT MCA fees?

Ans. The fee categories at VESIT MCA are based on the university from which the candidate completed their graduation. Candidates who graduated from the University of Mumbai fall under the Mumbai University (MU) category and pay Rs. 1,19,506 per year. Candidates who graduated from any other university (CBSE-affiliated, other state universities, deemed universities, etc.) fall under the OMU (Other than Mumbai University) category and pay Rs. 1,19,906 per year, with an additional one-time Eligibility Fee of Rs. 200 and Enrollment Fee of Rs. 200. The difference is minimal (Rs. 400 per year), but it is important to select the correct category during the CAP registration process.

Ques. How is the curriculum at VESIT MCA different from a regular Mumbai University MCA programme?

Ans. Since VESIT is an autonomous institute, the MCA department designs its own curriculum independently of the standard University of Mumbai syllabus. The VESIT MCA curriculum is updated regularly to include emerging technologies such as Big Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Blockchain, and Cloud Computing. The programme follows a project-based learning approach, with students working on real-world projects throughout both years. The examination system is also internal, with VESIT conducting its own semester exams and assessments. The degree awarded is from the University of Mumbai, but the curriculum and grading are managed entirely by VESIT.

Ques. Can working professionals or students from non-computer backgrounds apply for VESIT MCA?

Ans. VESIT MCA is a full-time programme and does not offer a part-time or distance mode option. Working professionals who wish to pursue MCA would need to take a break from employment. Students from non-computer backgrounds (such as BCA, B.Sc. Mathematics, B.Sc. Statistics, B.Com with Mathematics, or any graduation with Mathematics) are eligible to apply, provided they meet the eligibility criteria of 50% aggregate at graduation and Mathematics at 10+2 or graduation level. The programme is designed to build computer science fundamentals from the ground up, so students from non-CS backgrounds can adapt with dedicated effort.

Ques. What is the ACAP process at VESIT MCA and when does it happen?

Ans. ACAPP (Against CAP) is an institute-level counselling process conducted by VESIT for MCA seats that remain vacant after all CAP rounds are completed. Typically, ACAP rounds happen in September of the admission year. Candidates interested in ACAP must register on the VESIT ACAP portal (https://enrollonline.co.in/Registration/Apply/ACAP) and attend the counselling rounds at the institute as per the schedule published on the VESIT website. ACAP candidates pay the full open category fee (Rs. 1,19,506 per year for Mumbai University graduates) and are not eligible for government scholarships. It is important to note that ACAP candidates must also have a valid MAH MCA CET score to be considered for admission.
