IEM Kolkatais known for its great placements. The Computer Science and Engineering department is one of the oldest departments in the Institute of Engineering and Management. Every year around 150 students in B.Tech (CSE) and 18 students in M.Tech (CSE) get admitted to the department. The college attracts very brilliant students because of the department reputation as well as the excellent placement records. IEM Kolkata B.Tech (C.S.E) provides around 95% Placements in 2020, with the highest salary packages 22 lacks, and lowest packages with 4 lakhs.

For CSE, renowned companies such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Capgemini, IBM, Tech Mahindra, and so on come for picking up some talents. TCS, Wipro, and Infosys are the mass recruiters on the campus.
The Placement Cell of the Institute of IEM, Kolkata has set a standard for its placement by providing a minimum one offer to each and every student who has taken admission in IEM, Kolkata. Placement starts from the month of August and usually continues throughout the year until May.

What I mean is that the institute does not matter but it’s your capability and skills that determine your success rate. I find judging colleges based on placements very silly.

So, if your ultimate goal is BTech only then take any one between IEM and KIIT depending on your financial background but if you are planning to pursue higher education, IEM will help you save money that can later be used for higher studies.

IEM Kolkata maintains a good placement record over the years and every year many students get placed through its efficient placement drive. The faculty is a mixed pool, some extremely good while some very inefficient. Most students prefer self-studying or seeking help from seniors rather than approaching professors.

The fees are a bit higher than government colleges like MAKAUT Main, Ceramic Tech, Kalyani Govt, etc. IEM first-year fees for the BTech program are ?1.78 Lakhs. The high fees do not translate to high-paying jobs here so the ROI will be very low.

Some other minor flaws are the lack of greenery and the uniform compulsion.

Here, everything depends on your skills and dedication. So adopt a positive mindset, and study well so that you can clear entrances like GATE, GRE, CAT, or GMAT. You cannot be solely dependent on college for shaping your career!

Snapdeal, Amazon, Google, etc. visit IIEST Shibpur and offer equal placement opportunities to both IT and CSE students. My roommate from IT got into Snapdeal through campus placement.

IEM isn’t a well-known college. It is a local college unlike IIEST, which is an institute of national importance. The campus size of IEM is very small. Big companies don’t usually visit small colleges like IEM.

The college tag has a value of its own. Besides, the opportunities and exposure offered by IIEST are immense.

Thus, I would recommend you opt for IT at IIEST Shibpur.

If you get a chance to join top institutes, do your research and opt for the very best. You will be the one to spend 4 years learning that particular subject. In this case, both IIIT Nagpur and IEM Kolkata are good colleges.

Having known people studying in both IIIT Nagpur and IEM, I can say that IIIT Nagpur was recently established whereas IEM is quite older and has enough experience as an educational institution.

It won’t be reliable to take admission in IIIT Nagpur as it is new. Though it possesses a good faculty and placement record.
You can take CS at IEM confidently as the faculty is well experienced and possess relevant qualifications.
Besides, IEM is situated in one of the biggest IT hubs of east India.
Mostly all IT companies near the college visit the campus for recruiting and conduct industry visits.

The yearly fees is 95,000 per semester for every student.It has scholarship like SVMCM scholarship and other merit cum scholarship. Fees for our entire Course is 8,50,000 INR and its increasing every year to year.

The infrastructure is not appropriate as compared to the fees they take, since the classrooms do not have proper seats, the projector sometimes does not work.

Fees and Financial Aid:

The college provides best opportunities to the students. The average fees structure for engineering is 8 lakhs for 4 years and for getting in the college, it needs a good score in the joint examinations, for example, you need to have a rank of 3500 or below in the west bengal joint examination for getting computer science here, well there are also reserved seats for those who want direct admission here, but the fee becomes higher for them, like on an average, direct admission requires an average payment of 6 to 7 lakhs minimum for booking the seat in departments like computer science and its sub branches. Also other branches like IT, CSE AIML, CSE AI needs to have somewhat same score but the competition is lower as compared to CSE core. The registration fees is about 1 lakh or so, also tutition fees is 5 lakhs and the rest is 2 lakhs, and all total 8 lakhs. The college also provides scholarship opportunities for students having financial difficulties or having long term medical issues.

Dislikes

Non air conditioned classes even after paying such high fees. Minimum compulsory attendance is too high. Not allowing students to leave after attending classes they want to attend.
The compulsion to wear uniforms is not something I like. It makes us look like we are still in school. The academic calendar is too congested and it needs to be optimised.

Since it is an Engineering college the fees is taken per semester. The per semester fees for the 2023-27 batch is 85000/- so the yearly comes to 1,70,000/-. While admission they take 25,000 as caution money. The trend for the past years is that the semester fees is increased for every upcoming batch by 10,000/- so for the 2022-26 batch the fees was 75000/- but it was increased to 85000/- for our batch and further increased for the current first year to 95000/-
