PGIMER Chandigarh Admission FAQs

Ques. What is the counseling process for PGIMER PG courses?

Ans. Counseling for MD, MS, DM, and M.Ch is conducted by AIIMS Delhi through INI CET. Candidates who are allotted a seat at PGIMER must report to the institute for document verification and admission formalities.

Ques. How hard is it to get into PGI Chandigarh for MD/MS? What rank should one aim for in the INI-CET?

Ans. Getting into PGI Chandigarh is very competitive. For general category seats in MD/MS, one typically needs a rank under 150 - 300 in the INI-CET exam. For high-demand programs like Radiology or Dermatology, a rank within the top 50 may be needed. For other branches like Anaesthesia or Pathology, ranks up to 800–1000 might still have a chance, depending on the category and seat availability.

Ques. What if I can’t join PGI Chandigarh on time after allotment? Can I delay or hold the seat?

Ans. No, PGI is strict about reporting dates. If the students don’t join within the specified period, your seat is forfeited and go to the next candidate. There’s no provision to hold or defer your seat in PGI Chandigarh.

PGIMER Chandigarh Admissions: Students' Opinion

  • BSc
  • B.Optom
  • BSc
  • BPT

The Bachelor of Science in Dialysis Therapy Technology at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, requires candidates to clear an entrance exam specifically conducted by PGIMER. The exam is particularly challenging, with eligibility open to students from any background. Admission is based on achieving a score within the cutoff range, typically around the 58 to 94 percentile. A registration fee of ?1500 is required for the application process.

Post-exam, candidates are allocated admissions based on a percentile ranking system, with counseling sessions organized to facilitate the allotment of courses in accordance with category-based cutoffs. For instance, securing a percentile rank of 94 surpassed the minimum cutoffs, leading to a successful course allotment during counseling sessions. Admission may occur in multiple counseling rounds, implying the availability of seats for different categories, such as OBC. As one of the premier medical institutions in India and close to Delhi, PGIMER offers an attractive proposition with affordable fees and extensive facilities, making it a preferred choice for students over local private colleges.

Students should ensure they possess proper category certificates required for the admission process.

PGIMER Chandigarh: 2 Answered Questions

Which is better for an MS in General Surgery: AIIMS, JIPMER or PGI?

Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

Surgery can’t be read and understood. Also, no matter the number of simulations you run through, practicing on a human body is very different.

Now, with their limited number of beds, these institutions perform complex surgeries through protocol defining procedures. As a resident at these, you won’t perform many surgeries. Also, you’ll have a limited exposure to trivial diseases. On the flip side, you’ll witness some of the best surgeons at work, and access top notch technology. To master surgery, you’ll have to become an SR at these institutions.

But at a decent government college hospital, the volume of patients is very high. As a result, you’ll be pushed into the OT. So you’ll get good practice, under proper supervision. However, at these colleges, protocols take a back seat. You’ll have to compromise with low funding as a resident at these institutions.

I would personally recommend going for a decent government college. But you should choose according to your own preferences.

During the first 6 months of your MD, your working hours will be from 7am to 9pm for most days. Working hours may change depending on the number of patients admitted. Your working hours will decrease for the next 6 months.

During the second year, you’ll work from 8am to 6pm. You’ll have to work for two hours extra in case of an admission under you. In the final year, you’ll work from 8am to 5pm. After that you’ll be relieved from the ward, only OP.

This is the schedule for MD Dermatology students at JIPMER.
