MAMC Delhi: 1 Answered Question

Is MAMC better than KGMU?

Sabeer Chalana
Sanjana KapoorVMCC Delhi

Both MAMC and KGMU are top medical colleges in India. However, MAMC has a slight location advantage over KGMU and is also known to have a better environment for medical education.

Here is a brief comparison of these colleges based on common aspects

  • Infrastructure : KGMU has a much better infrastructure than MAMC with around 4500 beds and 80 departments with it's own cancer institute whereas MAMC has a bed capacity of 2800. Despite being a government college, KGMU is well-maintained and clean.
  • Campus : KGMU has an exceptionally beautiful campus and the MAMC campus cannot even be compared to it.
  • Faculty : Although both colleges are known to have excellent professors, MAMC does give a slight edge to KGMU in this aspect. It has some very renowned faculties of India second only to the faculty in AIIMS.
  • Location : Located in the capital city, MAMC is the first choice of NEET toppers. KGMU is situated in Lucknow which has no such location advantage although some UP students may prefer it over MAMC.
  • Ranking : The MAMC Medical ranking by NIRF is 32 out of 50 colleges in India in 2023 while that of KGMU is 12 out of 50 in India in 2023.

So, KGMU is a good option if you dont make it to good medical colleges in Delhi.

MAMC and UCMS are top colleges for MD Psychiatry in Delhi. MAMC has better reputation, brand and legacy, however both have similar fee structure with around INR 17-18k annually. The NEET PG cut-offs are generally high and will be competetive. UCMS has newer facilities with some departmental upgrades. However, hostel availability and facilities will vary in both colleges.
