Fees

  • Back in 2021, when I got my addmission the total program fee I calculated was 40000 to 45000 CAD with an additional 10000 CAD GIC. But now the program fees have increased, and the GIC amount has risen to 20000 CAD.
  • For the program fees, you can visit the university website, and there you will be able to get the detailed fee structure.

  • DAL have 3 campuses in Halifax and 1 in Truro and I think 2 more outside halifax (https://www.dal.ca/about/campus-locations.html)
  • Halifax Campus has Gym, swimming pool, multiple fields for different sports, basketball hall, etc.
  • There multiple small - medium event always going on in DAL, including international events. Indian students celebrate all major Indian festivals.

Fees

  • Link for more details: https://www.dal.ca/admissions/money_matters/tuition_payments/Tuition_Fees.html
  • Tuition is paid semester-wise; they also allow credit. it was around 10000-11000 for the first 3 semesters, which include around 6000 international fees. For the last, 4th semester, the fees were around 8000. I think they increased the fees recently. Fees include health insurance, buss pass, gym membership. These can be removed if not required. To remove health insurance, you will need another health insurance.
  • I am not sure about hostels, but its really costly. Better find a place to live in the city. In Halifax, a shared room can cost around 500 CAD and can go up depending on utlities. A private room can be found for around 800-1200 CAD.
  • Food is costly; depending on your phone plan and how much do you like to spend for entertainment, monthly expenses can be around 350-550 CAD.
  • For transportation, I would suggest keeping the bus pass that you get with the tuition, as it's way cheaper than getting a normal bus pass.
  • Overall, you will need at least 900 CAD monthly.

Overview

Overall, my experience has been great at Dalhousie University. The course curriculum they offered and the Professors putting in some efforts to really see their students excel is something very rare. The university also offers a good health infrastructure to its students when needed. I have learnt a lot from my experience and that is indicated on my profile as I have such clear understanding of the concepts which I can apply in my professional experience.

Campus Life

The entire campus has high speed internet connectivity. There are 2-3 libraries which provide excellent selection of books to learn from. There is also a huge playground for football, 2-3 open tennis courts and their very own sports complex which consists of gym, badminton courts, basketball courts, rock climbing, squash courts, swimming pool, indoor running track and much more!

University offers an opportunity where we need to present our work in front of leaders, and tell about the invention we did. It is really helpful.

PS

Overview

I did my own research. I got to know this is one of the colleges where I can apply from my range of marks. But this was the last in my last to go. I have applied to many universities like Waterloo, Alberta. According to my score, I was pretty confident that I would get into a better university for sure. Dalhousie was last in my list, but I got admission here. So I got to know the flavor of competition going on in Canada.

Campus Life

It has so many facilities. We have so many clubs like dance club, ted talk club, and coding community. The gym is superb. The standard of equipment is very high. They maintain it so well. They hire around 1000 members to maintain the entire sports community. 1000 members are from Dalhousie university, students are the ones, who are doing part-time there to maintain the entire sports community.

Overview

It is in a city that I have visited and wanted to live in and it is a very strong research school. I only applied to this school but I applied to several different programs within the school. I performed well academically in high school so I appreciate the challenge of some of the courses at this school.

Fees

My tuition is about $9000 a year. I got a government student loan and was not awarded any scholarships as I am a transfer student. The school does offer bursaries that students can apply for once every semester and they can help offset some costs. They are given out based on financial need. I applied for one this semester.

● qag9eP Pradipta Mukharjee Fdp03t 06 Jun 22

vyhCv3 For Masters in Applied Computer Science, Concordia University is better. The university has a locational advantage. It is in Montreal, which is becoming an IT hub. If you are good at coding and think analytically to implement the solution in a practical way, this course is ideal for you.    Here is a brief highlight of Concordia’s Masters in Applied Computer Science.  1st year tuition fees INR 12,76,002 Other costs INR 10,23,672 Eligibility  4-year bachelor's degree or 3-year program and 2-year master’s in a relevant field related to computer science.  Language proficiency test scores TOFEL - 85/120 PTE - 57/90 IELTS - 6.5/9 Program acceptance rate  49.3% Student-teacher ratio 1:16 Average CTC  INR 6,406,125 (82,500 USD) Dalhousie University is located in a small city Halifax, full-time opportunities after Masters are fewer there compared to Montreal. 5VyYK3 Which Canadian university is better for a foundation course, Ryerson University, University of Manitoba or Dalhousie University?

● qag9eP Angie Dawson Fdp03t 03 Feb 21

vyhCv3 While all these have their own perks, it's a given to prefer Dalhousie over Ryerson and Manitoba. QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2020 has ranked only Dalhousie University at #301-500 . Ryerson is your best choice if you're planning to live in a big city- while the others are situated in small towns. Still, all three have pretty similar foundation courses and ultimately depends on how seriously you take it. Ryerson University is known for many leading programs like Journalism, Sports Media, Arts, Communication and Design, Community Services, Engineering, and Business; there are some specialised programs only for international students with the Ryerson ESL Foundation Program. It has 62 undergraduate programs and 49 minor technical programs. The University of Manitoba is one of the oldest medical-doctoral research universities known for its professional schools like law, engineering, business, medicine, dentistry, architecture which has a total of 108 different degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Dalhousie University is known for many leading programs like Arts & Humanities, Clinical, pre-clinical & health, Engineering & Technology, Life sciences, Physical sciences, Social sciences, and Business & Economics. It has 120 undergraduate programs, and 80+ postgraduate and doctorate programs.Ryerson University has been ranked #601-800, the University of Manitoba has been ranked #351-400, and Dalhousie University has been ranked #251-300 by The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021. All these three universities have a good placement with 86.7% Employment rate of Ryerson University, 83% for the University of Manitoba, and 84% for Dalhousie University.Qoq+GP

5VyYK3 What are the job prospects after completing the course of Master's in Applied Computer Science from Dalhousie University, Halifax in Canada?

● qag9eP Sandya Upadhay Fdp03t 13 Jan 21

vyhCv3 There is no parameter called job prospects, if you have the skill and potential you will definitely get a job. University doesn’t play a role in a Job interview your skill and passion do. The Master of Applied Computer Science program at Dalhousie University is a 16-month graduate degree. It's experiential-based learning, connection to industry, in-demand curriculum, a wide range of backgrounds, and a growing network in computer science prepares you for a career in the industry by developing technical skills in systems, communications, analysts, and data management. Many students think that a degree in Applied Computer Science will guarantee great jobs which is not true. Even if you get scholarship or straight As, without skills and talent your gradesheet won't help you that much. If you have plans for entrepreneurship then Dalhousie is a great place famous for a number of startups and accelerator programs. Here are some highlights for Dalhousie's Masters in Applied Computer Science: Job prospects after MACS include roles of Analysts, Chief Technology Officers, Data Warehouse Architects, Technical Consultants, Senior Mobile Developers, Senior Technical Leads, Solutions Architects, Software Developers, etc Average Salaries for Dalhousie University Graduates & Alumni by Emolument: There are some software service companies in Halifax that provide job prospects for the students who are willing to stay there, but most of the students leave to other places for better opportunities.Qoq+GP

5VyYK3 Which university should one select in Canada for graduate studies from the following two, University of Windsor or Dalhousie University?

● qag9eP Swastika Roy Fdp03t 13 Jan 21

vyhCv3 Ranking wise Dalhousie University is good and the Job opportunity-wise University of Windsor is better, Halifax has more part-time job opportunities and fewer full-time jobs and the pay scale is lower and the tax is higher. As an international student, you might face difficulty with tuition and funding. At Halifax you will get plenty of parttime jobs. Since Halifax is also larger than Windsor, you will have more options. Both universities have good placement with an 85.91% Employment rate of the University of Windsor and 84% Employment rate of Dalhousie University.  The University of Windsor is known for many leading programs like Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, Education, Engineering, Graduate Studies, Human Kinetics, Law, Nursing, Business, and Science whereas Dalhousie University is known for its programs like Arts & Humanities, Clinical, pre-clinical & health, Engineering & Technology, Life sciences, Physical sciences, Social sciences, and Business & Economics. QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2020 has ranked only Dalhousie University at #301-500. Selecting a university depends upon your priority. If you want to get a good education go for Dalhousie University but to get settled early in Canada go for Windsor University. Overall Dalhousie University is the potential choice as you can always move to Ontario if you don't find any job in Nova Scotia.Qoq+GP

● qag9eP Saheli Roy Fdp03t 13 Jan 21

With a lot of different schools, colleges and universities around, you will have no shortage of things to do if you are fond of art and music. The classes are enjoyable and their size after the initial year is pretty reasonable as well. Almost all the facilities have great staff and the professors are always there for your help if you need them.  Diversity wise too Dalhousie is a great place and specially diverse for international students. Dalhousie University is academically the best as you get out of it what you put into it. It has good professors, a beautiful campus and a great location in a small but vibrant city.
