  • CAMPUS LOCATIONS • Parkville • Southbank • Burnley • Dookie • Creswick • Werribee • Shepparton. Mine was Parkville Campus, which is the main campus.
  • The University of Melbourne's Parkville campus offers a wide range of facilities, including numerous cafes and retail outlets, libraries, research and study spaces, sports facilities, and various other services.
  • The Parkville campus features the Beaurepaire Centre and Nona Lee Sports Centre, along with outdoor facilities like the Rawlinson Athletics Track and University Oval.

  • In the lectures, the main teacher/lecturer would teach a class of 400 but in tutorials, the faculty-to-student ratio was 1:15. It provided both kinds of education modes and provided comfort to a student with both modes.
  • The course content and teaching approach are sufficient to prepare one for securing a job in one's field but the fact is, it depends on the person and their dedication, which really determines if they secure a job.
  • If you have developed a personal bond with any faculty member, then they might use personal networks to help you find a job, but officially, they do not help with this.
  • Some lecturers were very practical and gave us practical industry insights which made them stand out.

  • I know of the Carlton, Burnley and Southbank campuses, but there are probably more.
  • My campus (Carlton) has all facilities—libraries, a gym, a sports center, open gardens and a running track and a swimming pool.
  • All major festivals like chinese new year, diwali, easter, christmas, Ramzan are all celebrated. There are student-run clubs for everything from photography, coding and music to culture-specific clubs like the indian club, or engineers club.

  • I live on campus—I used the university website to find the options, and based on online information like reddit and the accommodation website, I made my choice.
  • Rent is AUD 2500 per month. It's expensive, as I live in a studio, but electricity, water and Wi-Fi are included.
  • I did not face any challenges to secure accommodations. You just fill out a form and pay an application fee, and then they send an email if you are accepted or rejected. The key is applying early as soon as you get your COE, as spots book fast.
  • My accommodation is directly across campus; it takes about 2 minutes to get there. Most Indian students stay at any of the Unilodge buildings in Carlton.

  • Uni had two campuses. The Parkville campus is the main campus, with the majority of the courses being held there, and another campus in Southbank mainly has arts and humanities courses.
  • The university has top-class facilities for sports, library and medical.
  • The sports facility has a gym, pool, running track, a cricket ground and nets, and an all-purpose court where you can play badminton, basketball and netball.
  • The university does host a lot of events, which are mainly led by the clubs on the campus. Events particularly related to each culture (an Indian festival and an Indian student meetup) are conducted as well.

  • Finding the first place to say it is again a hard thing, and I would say it's probably one of the hardest tasks.
  • Since you would be new to the place without any rental history, plus it's a tedious process of first applying, then inspecting, followed by quoting a rent, and finally getting a place.
  • The best recommendation I would offer anyone is to look out for student housing and student accommodation just until you're settled, after which you can find a place by yourself or make a couple of friends and move in together.

  • The Parkville campus has amazing sports facilities with a heated Olympic-size swimming pool, a big cricket stadium, a massive gymnasium and much more.
  • At the beginning of each semester, there is a massive orientation week where you get the opportunity to meet many new students and PhD students get a faculty and school-level orientation to network with other new PhD students.

  • UniMelb offers a few on-campus accommodation options and they are excellent options especially if you want to get the vibe of a campus accommodation; however, they are a bit on the expensive side.
  • Typically the easiest way to find off-campus accommodation is through websites such as flatmates.com.au or realestate.com.au.

  • The University of Melbourne has 6 campuses and the main campus is in Parkville and the rest are in Southbank, Burnley, Dookie, Creswick, Werribee, and Shepparton.
  • The main campus in Parkville has almost all the facilities not limited to Libraries, sports, medical, and auditoriums.
  • I study at the Parkville (main) campus and the main events take place during the orientation (February and July) and Chinese New Year.
  • There are over 200 clubs and activities currently active in the University and they are not restricted to languages, music, culture, spirituality, politics, adventure, sports, and so on.

  • I had a relatively easy process of obtaining an accommodation as my friends had arrived a bit earlier than me and with the help of his aunt, we were able to secure a rentable property.
  • It is usually recommended to search for the accommodation as soon as you get an offer letter (as the student accommodation availability is limited and getting a rentable property is really hard).
  • There are some pros and cons for each accommodation facility, as commuting is easier with student accommodations, whereas the rent is relatively cheaper in a house in the suburbs but transportation is quite hard.
  • There are a lot of platforms online (real estate, etc ...) and agents can also be contacted to find suitable accommodation based on the student's needs.

  • The University of Melbourne has 7 campuses. They’re Parkville, Southbank, Burnley, Creswick, Dookie, Shepparton, and Werribee. The campus obviously has free wifi, comfortable libraries, smooth study desks, and air conditioning.

  • We’ve got a few websites/mobile apps here that may facilitate the search process (such as Flatmates and Facebook Marketplace). You usually get in touch with the agent and book an inspection, and have your local friends here inspect the property to confirm if it's as good as they show in the photos.
  • The monthly rent in the CBD ranges between $1200 and $1800, but suburbs like Brunswick and St. Kilda are quite cheaper. The accommodation I live in does not have air conditioning (like most of the other student accommodations here). It is quite challenging to find a place to live here. The place I live is only 50 meters from the Parkville campus.

Campus Life

The campus life can be what you make of it. There are weekly events happening followed by dinners and parties. Melbourne is the sports and food capital of Australia and it totally depends on the individual as to how much they wish to indulge. They are multiple student clubs in MBS. The application process is competitive for core clubs like consulting, marketing, etc. Other clubs are fairly easy to get into. There are a lot of Indians in Australia and Indians made up approximately 15-20% of the total students in University of Melbourne & MBS. We had free access to the sports facility and Gym. Medical clinic was also free to access, as part of the mandatory medical insurance (around AUD1500) that we purchased before the start of the program. The consulting club, marketing club, and business analytics club were the most active and sought after one. Sports clubs (football, handball, etc) obviously had their own loyal following.

I opted for student accomodation (Scape and Unilodge) right next to the university. These were within walking distance of MBS, right in the heart of the city. To get into these student accomodations you must be a student at the time of applying. I had to fill an online form and submit my admission documents. Most of the process was done within 2 weeks. Along with the rent, you also have to pay a one-time refundable security deposit equivalent to 4 weeks of rent. You also have to enter into a 6 month or 12 month contract. These accomodations were expensive amounting to nearly $400 per week, inclusive of utilities. This did not include meals. One could get cheaper accomodations as they move outside the city. A private room in a shared apartment was usually 180-250 AUD. 2/3 BHK flats in the outer suburbs were cheaper but were very difficult to rent for international students.

Please attend the club activities if you have time after returning from your part-time job as it is a good way to connect with new people. Please always network with people that's the most important thing in Australia .

The rental market is really bad in Australia so along with your college fees please budget money for accommodations as well because the average rent in the city would be 250-300 AUD per week.

Campus life is amazing. Some of the other kinda events will be hosted by clubs and sometimes by the University itself. Every building has good wifi connectivity. Libraries exist both online and offline. We have sports areas where people get to practice whatever they wish to.

I live with my friend and I pay AUD 1440 every month. I live in an apartment setup which is in the heart of the city. If students move to the suburban areas they end up paying less. The average they might end up paying would be AUD 400 - AUD 500 per month.
