Swinburne Admission Tips for Indian Students
The most common Indian-applicant stumble at Swinburne University of Technology is applying too close to the offshore deadline of 26 June 2026. Late applicants leave inadequate time for the Australian student visa processing. The second most common stumble is under-leveraging the automatic scholarship consideration by submitting weak motivation letters or incomplete supporting documentation at application time.
- For Semester 2 2026 intake, submit your application by mid-May 2026 to allow 6-8 weeks for the visa process plus admission decision.
- For Semester 1 2027 intake, apply by October-November 2026 for the strongest visa and scholarship timing.
- Submit a strong Statement of Purpose (SOP) at application; the automatic scholarship consideration depends on the application strength.
- For MBA candidates, document your 2+ years work experience with employment letters and detailed role descriptions.
- If your Class 12 or bachelor's was English-medium, submit a Medium of Instruction letter from the institution registrar; this can waive the IELTS 6.0 / TOEFL 79 requirement.
- For undergraduate programmes, ensure Class 12 includes the subject prerequisites (e.g., Mathematics for Engineering, Sciences for Health Science).
- Apply for additional Australian scholarships separately: Destination Australia Scholarship (regional study), Australia Awards Scholarship.
- For Design and Animation programmes, prepare a strong portfolio showcasing creative range; this is decisive for admission.
- Maintain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the entire study duration; this is mandatory for the student visa.
- Budget approximately AUD 29,710-38,000 per year for living expenses in Melbourne (recommended by Department of Home Affairs).
- Apply for the Australian student visa (subclass 500) immediately after receiving the Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE).
- Plan for 4-12 weeks visa processing; the Department of Home Affairs may take longer for first-time Indian applicants.
- Take advantage of Swinburne's industry placement: ensure your CV is updated and your LinkedIn profile is active before the placement matching phase.
- Australia offers a 2-year post-study work visa (Subclass 485) for bachelor's graduates and 3-year for Master's graduates, with PR pathway eligibility.

- I loved the 24/7 late labs library access to students, amazing staff

- The environment of the university is competitive, always pushing you towards the goal, sometimes you may get tired/ feel burnt out

- They are quite convenient and they are always considerate if we following the rules and try to help us as much as they can. Our teachers are amazing and their teaching style is very good and satisfying, other than that they have health and wellbeing care for students so they provide free therapies with professional therapists for students. They also help us with our assignments and study management.
Dislikes
- Our assignments due are always back to back so it is quite hard to complete them on time. We have to always start from really before and hard to manage sometimes to complete while working and studying at the same time. They do provide us extensions but we also have to provide a lot of evidences for that to get an extension.
Overview
My course is quite demanding in Australia and have great opportunities to look forward to after I graduate. I chose my university because they were providing the highest percentage of scholarships than any universities in Melbourne at that time. The place is quite convenient through public transport and near city. They have also a lot of opportunities for industry experiences and clubs to join. Other than studying, my university has fun and lovely lifestyle. It is quite great overall. Although, we do not get paid for our placements but we can count it as a work experience and add on our CV. We have hybrid classes system but I prefer more face to face classes. We have 7 weeks of classes then we go to placements and come to university for just last two weeks for face to face classes. I do not like that. Other than that, their facilities are quite great and they have lots of events and festivals to join in and make lots of friends. I have quite a good experience so far with study and making friends and also getting help for jobs.
Scholarship
I got the Student Excellence Scholarship because my double GPA is 5 and the percentage is 75% and I am carrying out that since beginning of my course. They had some requirements such as I have to maintain 70% overall result every semester. The process was simple. In my university, whoever applies they are already being considered for that specific scholarship without making another application.

- It has a diverse set of cultural events. Late lab is a far initiative to promote a study focused environment. There is a good number of international students which shows diversity.

- Nothing particularly unique to Swinburne. The problems I’ve mentioned are not exclusive to Swinburne. Make sure you choose a degree that your uni is known for.
Overview
SoP was required. A compelling story as to why you need to study this specific course at this specific university will be required. You have to specify why you need to learn this skill/ up skill. It had a good ranking, and a great scholarship. Also its proximity to city. It’s been great overall. I love going to Swinburne for my studies, and I really enjoy it. The scholarship is great too. It does make me feel at home with the different cultural programs and amazing free events. It’s also got various spots to hang out with friends too. I would 10/10 recommend this uni for an amazing college life.
Scholarship
I have Swinburne International Excellence Scholarship which is 75% reduction in the fees, which was awarded based on my CBSE grades (95%). This scholarship has been discontinued for new students.

- The classes could be more interactive and informative . And the study material offered could be improved . When it comes to teaching through practice, involvement of the teachers could help students make better understanding of concepts.
Overview
I submitted SoP , which highlights the purpose of my study in abroad , my financial liabilities supporting my education in abroad , my background and ambitions and goals after completion of my course. I chose Swinburne as because of its ranking and overall review. It offered the course which I was looking for and was recognised for its quality education in terms of technology and engineering. It also provided me scholarships options and the fee was affordable.

Swinburne University of Technology was one of top universities. Moreover the curriculum of my selected course was well designed and covered almost all recent technologies which I wanted to learn. The university had good industry tie ups which is beneficial for the students. By covering all this the fees of the university was little less than other universities.

Overview
I decided to choose the Swinburne University of Technology due to its close proximity to my place of stay during my study period. Additionally, the course content of Bachelor of Animation appealed to me. It was also offering a decent scholarship (Vice Chancellor's Excellence Scholarship) which would allow me to focus on my studies more intensely.
Scholarship
The scholarship I receive was automatically applied for.
