AI-Generated Summary based on 18 Reviews

The NCSU Computer Science department generally does not offer scholarships to incoming master's students, as these are typically reserved for PhD candidates. PhD students benefit from having their entire tuition fee waived, often through positions like graduate teaching assistantships. While there are limited financial aid opportunities for international students, these mainly come in the form of assistantships or external funding.

Some students may receive support through the Graduate Student Support Plan (GSSP), where a professor funds their education in exchange for research assistance, covering their tuition for a semester. It is advisable for prospective students to consult with the NCSU Office of International Services or the admissions team for detailed information on available funding options.

  • There are WhatsApp groups where you can connect with others, and there is also Maitri, an Indian graduate student association. Maitri helps link newcomers with existing groups and provides roommate finder sheets that match roommates based on preferences. Additionally, some online agents can help with this as well. Joining the Maitri student association is a great way to get started!

Scholarship

  • No – neither me nor my batchmates. CS or CE students do not receive any scholarships. MEM students have some scholarships, and Design students have TA opportunities and lower tuition fees.

  • Off-campus. Used whatsapp groups and communities. Maitri – the Indian Student Organization – circulates a roommate finder form through which people connect. For shared rooms, monthly rent is $350-450. For private, it is $600-750.
  • Challenges – get your lease checked by NC State Legal Services.
  • 10-15 mins walk from campus where most Indian students stay.

Scholarship

  • One of my friends got a GSSP (graduate student support plan); his tuition fee for the whole semester was waived.

  • Real estate agent called wilson. $625, washer/dryer, microwave, oven, fridge, private bath and private bedroom, near to bus stops.
  • Have to pay an application fee first to even apply for housing through wilson, cannot select the flat we want in the building; floor assigned randomly; house was infested with cockroaches when we arrived.
  • I would say join the whatsapp groups and connect with other students; many are subleasing. they will get a good deal and also go through the real estate agent companies like wilson and trinity.
  • About 10 to 15 mins by car/bike. Most indian students stay at the same place i do, it's called University Commons.

Scholarship

  • No, there are no scholarships except for PhD students. I personally don't know anyone with a scholarship.
  • It might be worth checking with the OIS team of NCSU or even admissions team so that we can get a better picture of how the scholarship programme works.
  • That said, the PhD students get their entire fee waived off. This is also for graduate TAs.

  • I searched on facebook for accommodation. The monthly rent was 500$ and the utilities costed around 300$ including food for one month.
  • This was for a private room and bathroom, which I consider to be very cheap comparatively. I encountered no challenges while securing accommodation.
  • The house is pretty far from college (30 minutes by bus, but 10 minutes by car, but I don't own a car). Most indian students stay in Avery Close, which is still 10 minutes by bus, but the rents there are higher.

Scholarship

  • I didn’t receive any scholarships during my course.
  • However, one of my friends received a GSSP (Graduate Student Support Plan). Under this, a professor funds your education for that semester, and in return, the student works as a research assistant for them.
  • The university doesn’t offer scholarships specifically for international students. Most financial aid opportunities for international students come through assistantships or external funding.

  • I opted for off-campus accommodation and found it through a WhatsApp forum. Each university has an Indian student community office called Maitri, where students share accommodation ads.
  • My monthly rent was $600, which included electricity, water, and Wi-Fi. The accommodation came fully furnished with a sofa, kitchen, washer, and dryer, all set up by the property owner.
  • The main challenge I faced was the initial search, but joining the university’s community groups on platforms like Reddit and Maitri made the process easier.
  • For future students, I recommend joining the college's official groups, such as Maitri, and checking platforms like Reddit to find accommodation options.
  • My accommodation was about 1 mile from the bus stop, which was convenient for commuting. Most Indian students tend to stay off-campus in nearby apartments or rental homes.

AR

I chose this university as being a well reputed and a state college, the fees was nominal. It is located in the RTP area, which is a growing hub for tech industries in the East coast. Weather is one other factor. Placements are pretty good. Coursework is of industry interest and professors are well known.
