- The college has amazing and talented professors
- The campus involvement and career fairs
- WolfLine - The commute system which works till the midnight
Dislikes
- Some commute options for certain off campus living
- RA / TA opportunities are limited, there is so much competition
- They pay 10$ per hour for on campus employment and working at dining halls are hard and the pay is so little compared to the work you put in
Placement
- Over 85% of students find jobs after completing the course, either immediately or at least within a year. The average salary is around $90,000. You can find these jobs through career fairs, networking sessions, and even cold applications. How well you represent yourself and connect with peers during networking sessions plays a crucial role in landing a job. The outcome can vary for everyone.
- There are WhatsApp groups where you can connect with others, and there is also Maitri, an Indian graduate student association. Maitri helps link newcomers with existing groups and provides roommate finder sheets that match roommates based on preferences. Additionally, some online agents can help with this as well. Joining the Maitri student association is a great way to get started!

- Students are kept engaged through various activities and events in the campus. The faculties and the career guidance department do their best to help students get placed through events with a lot of tech companies
Dislikes
- The bus routes and connectivity could be improved to help end to end travel to student housing around the campus
Placement
- 90% of the students secure employment after graduation
- Students find jobs through networking, applying on online portals and through in-college panelists and networking events
- Found online accommodation through an online portal – costs close to $550 a month, including utilities.
Likes
- Amazing campus- especially the 5-storeyed gymnasium
- 24*7 access to libraries- amazing libraries
- Hundreds of events going on campus every single day throughout each semester
Dislikes
- CS students are not allowed full-time co-ops
- Cost of education (tuition fee) is extremely high
- Extreme and random weather in Raleigh
Placement
- About 90% secure employment – but the stats keep varying with the market. Average salary is 180-200k USD CTC. Students find jobs through cold mailing, applying online through linkedin and job boards, the NC State career fair, networking events, etc.
- Major companies include Amazon and LexisNexis for CS, Texas Instruments and Qualcomm for CE, and Cummins and Tesla for MEM.
- Off-campus. Used whatsapp groups and communities. Maitri – the Indian Student Organization – circulates a roommate finder form through which people connect. For shared rooms, monthly rent is $350-450. For private, it is $600-750.
- Challenges – get your lease checked by NC State Legal Services.
- 10-15 mins walk from campus where most Indian students stay.

Likes
- The curriculum is very industry oriented which help in getting jobs
- The intake has very quality students which helps a lot in professional development
- Infrastructure is top-notch with a very big library
Dislikes
- I don't like that subjects can be selected according to random slotting which gets many students at disadvantage for some of the popular courses
Placement
- 90% had a 100k min salary right after graduation. This is also because the quality of intake is very good.
- Reach out to the MAITRI indian Student association. Average rent in 2019 was ~$300
Likes
- The NCSU Hunt Library is AMAZING! Top notch architecture and everything students need for studying. They also give ipads and other devices to work if we need them free of charge.
- The availability of on-campus jobs is very high. Most students are able to secure one to support their finances.
- The special topics offered in the MCS course are very good. these usually have a small number of students so focused attention is given. since the prof. knows all the students in these special topic classes, we can build a good relationship with them and get offered TA positions through that.
Dislikes
- The bus network is good but sometimes buses are late or overpacked. Also a lot of time is wasted in waiting for the buses and usally commute to classes and part time job takes around an hour daily.
- The career fairs held by NCSU are seldom helpful. they are packed with thousands of students and very few companies. very few of my friends have secured an internship or job offer through these fairs. many companies that come there only hire US citizens and some come there even if they are not hiring currently. usually only a few companies get all the attention so there are thousands of students in the queue for them and there is no personal connection built with the recruiters. wait times in line are almost 2 hrs for each company.
- It is in raleigh and raleigh being a small town, there are pretty limited fun activities to do outside of the ncsu campus
Placement
- Full-time job opportunities for NCSU MCS students are available through online applications. Most work as a Software Developer or AI engineer, etc. These positions pay $80k to $120k per year, depending on the company. Many NCSU students also get into Big Tech companies like Amazon and Google. Apart from these, major companies hiring NCSU grads include RedHat, NetApp, LexisNexis, etc. Research Triangle Park is a major business hub near NCSU that boasts the headquarters of several tech companies.
- Job applications open as early as 1 year before graduation and the application process usually includes several rounds of interviews (3 to 5). Some students also get their internship converted into a full-time job. Although many students are able to secure a full-time job after education, many cases are present where the students had to go back to their home country due to not being able to get a job. NCSU holds career fairs for students to meet companies and hiring managers in person.
- However, the reality is that these are seldom helpful and usually packed with thousands of students waiting in line for a single company. I could count on my fingertips how many students were able to secure a job through these fairs. Most get converted from internships or apply online. Many companies coming to these fairs are looking for US citizens, which is another hurdle for Indian students and limits their options even more.
- Real estate agent called wilson. $625, washer/dryer, microwave, oven, fridge, private bath and private bedroom, near to bus stops.
- Have to pay an application fee first to even apply for housing through wilson, cannot select the flat we want in the building; floor assigned randomly; house was infested with cockroaches when we arrived.
- I would say join the whatsapp groups and connect with other students; many are subleasing. they will get a good deal and also go through the real estate agent companies like wilson and trinity.
- About 10 to 15 mins by car/bike. Most indian students stay at the same place i do, it's called University Commons.

Placement
- The coursework prepares you well for the industry. Salary depends on role and location.
- At this current market 50% of the students are finding internships and full-time positions
- Plenty off campus accomodation avalable. Around $650 for private room and $350 for a shared room.
Likes
- Located in a college town more or less. Resources to buy groceries are nearby but if you want something specific you’ll have to travel for it.
Placement
- I’m looking for one but past records show a good turn out of people getting jobs.
- Researched available off campus housing websites and applied on them.
- I pay $337.5/month for a shared room in a 2b2b apartment

Likes
- Great systems courses
- Good learning opportunity for research
- The RTP triangle area is very good at providing job opportunities for tech people
Dislikes
- High tuition cost
- No co-op for Ms.c students
- The RTP area prefers people with atleast 2 years work experience if possible
Placement
-
Almost 80% of the students secure employment within 6 months of completion of their course. The average salary range for my course is 90,000$ minimum.
-
The students usually have to search on their own, go through networking via linkedin to get their jobs. The quality of the students is good, so they don't have a big problem securing employment.
-
Common methods include the career fair, and linkedin job hunt. Major companies that hire from NCSU are networking companies like Cisco, Arista Networks, etc.
- I searched on facebook for accommodation. The monthly rent was 500$ and the utilities costed around 300$ including food for one month.
- This was for a private room and bathroom, which I consider to be very cheap comparatively. I encountered no challenges while securing accommodation.
- The house is pretty far from college (30 minutes by bus, but 10 minutes by car, but I don't own a car). Most indian students stay in Avery Close, which is still 10 minutes by bus, but the rents there are higher.

Likes
- The campus is huge, covering about 2,000 acres, and has all the necessary facilities.
- Transportation is very convenient with free Wolfline buses on campus and free Raleigh city bus rides for NC State students, making travel costs zero.
- There are plenty of dining options, stores, and facilities on campus, which makes it easy for students to find campus jobs without much trouble.
Dislikes
- Academics feel tough, very competitive. For computer majors like CS, projects and assignments feel too much sometimes, get stressful. Not much free time.
- Library gives cool stuff to borrow like cameras or iPads, but laptops or MacBooks only for 24 hours. Other colleges let you borrow longer, like for weeks.
- Crime is low, but every month or so, there's an alert from University Police, like car theft or shootings. Makes it feel unsafe sometimes.
Placement
- Getting full-time jobs depends on the field and market. Around 60–70% of students secure internships, which often turn into jobs. The employment rate after six months of graduation is decent, though the current IT market is slow.
- The average salary range for graduates is $80K to $150K. Many students find jobs through career fairs, university seminars, networking, and online portals like LinkedIn. Internships also help a lot in building industry connections.
- Top companies hiring from campus include Google, Cisco, HP, Red Hat, Volvo, and Deutsche Bank. Some batchmates joined big firms, while others got into startups or research roles. University career fairs and workshops are helpful to prepare for interviews and resumes. Finding a job needs effort but support is available.
- I opted for off-campus accommodation and found it through a WhatsApp forum. Each university has an Indian student community office called Maitri, where students share accommodation ads.
- My monthly rent was $600, which included electricity, water, and Wi-Fi. The accommodation came fully furnished with a sofa, kitchen, washer, and dryer, all set up by the property owner.
- The main challenge I faced was the initial search, but joining the university’s community groups on platforms like Reddit and Maitri made the process easier.
- For future students, I recommend joining the college's official groups, such as Maitri, and checking platforms like Reddit to find accommodation options.
- My accommodation was about 1 mile from the bus stop, which was convenient for commuting. Most Indian students tend to stay off-campus in nearby apartments or rental homes.

Dislikes
- Courses in demand got filled up pretty quickly with a huge class size.
- TA ship opportunities are rarely available in the 1st sem
Placement
Companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, Apple etc hire a lot from NCSU. With Amazon and Meta taking huge volumes of students.
I chose this university as being a well reputed and a state college, the fees was nominal. It is located in the RTP area, which is a growing hub for tech industries in the East coast. Weather is one other factor. Placements are pretty good. Coursework is of industry interest and professors are well known.
