TNNLU FAQs
Ques. Is TNNLU part of CUET for admissions?
Ans. No, TNNLU is not affiliated with the CUET (Common University Entrance Test) system. Admissions to its undergraduate and postgraduate law courses are made solely based on CLAT (Common Law Admission Test). The candidates have to secure a valid CLAT score and appear in counseling rounds to be admitted.
Ques. What extracurricular activities does TNNLU actively promote?
Ans. TNNLU has a lively extracurricular environment. The Moot Court Committee (MCC) is very active, conducting competitions such as the Antitrust and Insolvency National Moot Court events, and even a "Moot Boot Camp" for first years. Apart from mooting, students also participate in cultural fests, legal aid clinics, debates, and sports, giving the campus a holistic environment.
Ques. How comprehensive are the hostel facilities at TNNLU?
Ans. The university provides well-managed, gender-segregated hostels with academic and recreational amenities. Facilities include round-the-clock wardens, a resident nurse for healthcare support, study zones, and a homely environment conducive to learning.
Ques. Does TNNLU offer e-library and remote access to its library resources?
Ans. Yes, TNNLU’s three-storey library block houses print and digital resources, including a Legal History Museum and Moot Court Hall. It also supports an e-library accessible remotely, which is especially useful for research and off-campus learning
Ques. How diverse is the student body at TNNLU?
Ans. Although TNNLU retains a robust regional flavor, there is a relatively lesser degree of geographic and demographic diversity among students in comparison to Tier 1 NLUs. Tamil Nadu's high domicile reservation is responsible for this trend.
Ques. What infrastructure upgrades or government funding has TNNLU recently received?
Ans. The Tamil Nadu Government has been given ₹7.5 crore for TNNLU over six years. ₹2.5 crore will be used for maintenance, and ₹1 crore annually for the salary of staff. Ques. Has TNNLU faced any recent student policy controversies?
Ans. Yes. In July 2025, TNNLU pulled a re-admission mandate for parents' physical presence after public outcry, especially from out-of-staters, citing burdens of travel and expense. But late fees are still higher, and only full-pay students can be admitted.
Ques. How does TNNLU handle financial issues concerning SC/ST student scholarships?
Ans. Unfortunately, SC/ST scholarship money has been delayed. This has resulted in withheld examination results and re-admissions for such students, against state government directives. Delay, particularly in the disbursement of central scholarships, has attracted public and political outrage
Ques. Does TNNLU provide legal aid services to the community?
Ans. Yes. In August 2025, Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant dedicated a 24-hour legal clinic on campus with a physical and an e-library. Intended to provide punctual legal services, the clinic reflects TNNLU's devotion to outreach to the community and contemporary legal education
