Course Curriculum Overview
The course is quite rigorous with back-to-back research projects, exams, and vivas. But if you enjoy learning and are passionate about it, you will get through it. The course requires a compulsory internship every year that bridges the gap between the classroom and the real world. As for the exams, we have a mid-semester (2 hours) for 30 marks and an end-semester (2.30 hours) for 40 marks. The research project carries 20 marks, and the viva carries 10. The pass mark is 50. There are repeat exams after every semester, which provide a chance for students to improve their marks without arrears.
Internships Opportunities
As I have just completed my first year, I have very limited knowledge regarding this. The internship cell provides many opportunities during both the summer and winter breaks. Stipends are not usually provided for first-year students. Some companies or organisations that provide internship opportunities are T&S Law, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, Khaitan & Co, Vivrti Law, etc
Placement Experience
The internship and placement cell of the university actively works to secure internships and campus placements for the students. The average package was said to be 4.2 LPA, with the highest being 5 LPA. I have limited knowledge about the same.
Fees and Financial Aid
I paid Rs. 2,86,000 for the first year, which includes tuition, examination fee, hostel, mess, electricity, and some refundable deposits. First-generation graduates from Tamil Nadu get a concession of about 1 lakh. The fee will also vary for Tamil Nadu students who belong to the SC and ST categories. Further, students who are admitted under the Tamil Nadu Government school quota, their complete fee is borne by the state government. there has been a gradual increase in the fees over the year.
Campus Life
There are many celebrations and events throughout the year. Starting from freshers in August, Onam, Diwali, Pongal, Holi, and farewell. There are also inter-university sports events for basketball and football, with the biggest sports event being KRATOS, an inter-batch sports event. There are many clubs, music club, the dance club, the eco club, the photography club, the literary club, and committees such as Moot Court, ADR, Legal Aid, Trial Advocacy, etc. The library is well maintained with many journals, books
Hostel Facilities
It is a residential college. The hostel fee is included in the overall fee, and no extra amount is required. They provide a resident warden and a nurse. The food is decent, but if you are from the northern part of India, you might find it a bit difficult to adapt. The hostel and bathrooms are cleaned twice a day and mostly kept clean. There is also a common fridge in the girls' hostel. Students are allowed to have their kettle, Air cooler, and iron box, for which you will have to pay extra. A cupboard, a cot, a table, and a chair are provided to a person. You are supposed to get your own bed and any other essentials, including a lock. The rooms are three-sharing and are allotted on lot basis in the first year. The summer in Trichy is extremly hot. So having a personal air cooler or a table fan is much recomended.
Admission
The admission is through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) conducted by the CLAT consortium. I applied to other colleges based on the scores of the same exam. I had applied for VIT (Chennai), NFSU (Gujarat), and Saveetha and got admission in all three of them. I chose TNNLU over Saveetha and VIT as it is a state-run institution, with better faculty, is more affordable, and obviously, the NLU tag.
Faculty
The faculties are very approachable. They are experienced, and many of them are PhD holders. The university also provides mentorship for the students to navigate through their college days, as suggested by the UGC guidelines. The university also provides faculty who guide us with our research projects. There are 6 subjects, the first year has 4 BA subjects, which reduces in the following years. Mr. K. Govinda Rajan (Contracts), Ms. Hemalatha Bhat (Sociology), Ms. Rajeshwari Pari (Family Law), Mr. Mohammad Azad, Mr. Anil Kumar (English), and Mr. Subba Rao (Political Science) are some of the best professors who have taught me in the first year.
Night Life
The campus gate closes at 9.50 pm, and students are required to be inside their hostel after that. There is a common gym, a canteen, and a few other stalls inside the campus. These stalls, basketball court are the famous hangout spots. or just a stroll around the campus is very calming for me. We also have access to the terrace which is open to students till 11pm. There is a shop right opposite the campus that has the basic amenities that we would probably need. The campus is situated in the outskirts of Trichy, so there aren't many hangout spots near the campus. The campus is very secure but the same cannot be told regarding the locality. it is not very safe to roam at night.
