The programme spans 8 semesters and covers core disciplines including Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Soil Science, Entomology, Agricultural Economics, and Agricultural Extension. Total fees for Uttarakhand domicile students amount to approximately Rs. 2,54,830 for the entire programme (excluding food advance), making it one of the most affordable agricultural degrees in the country. The programme has a total intake of 130 Uttarakhand seats plus 46 payment seats, and is highly sought after due to GBPUAT's legacy as India's first agricultural university, its strong alumni network, and excellent research infrastructure spread across a 16,000-acre residential campus.

Counselling dates will be announced on the university portal after results.

GBPUAT: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 48 Reviews

The university's admission process involves an entrance exam available for Uttarakhand domicile holders and ICAR national exam candidates, with forms released from February to early April and exams in late May or early June. A notable feature is its third-place ranking among Indian agricultural universities, established in 1960 by Jawaharlal Nehru. The university employs a predominantly PhD-holding faculty with a 1:5 student-to-faculty ratio, fostering personalized learning. The curriculum meets ICAR standards, blending theory, practicals, and industrial/village attachments.

The tuition fee ranges from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 8,000 per semester, with a total cost of Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 40,000, including hostel and food. The course structure is rigorous, with 24 credits per semester. Placement rates are modest, with 60-82% of students placed; however, many pursue higher studies or government jobs instead. Average salaries range from 4.3 to 7 lakhs annually, with some reaching 15-25 lakhs. Companies like AMUL, IFFCO, Mahindra, and Tata recruit mainly in agriculture, fertilizer, and food processing.

Internship opportunities are facilitated, offering stipends up to Rs. 30,000 monthly. Scholarships are diverse, including merit-based, economic status, sports, and ICAR affiliation, with amounts ranging from Rs. 800 to Rs. 3,000 monthly, and up to Rs. 1 lakh for ICAR candidates. Economically weaker students and those with Uttarakhand domicile can receive Rs. 24,000 annually. The overall course fee is approximately 4 lakh rupees. Additional scholarships are available for SC/ST/OBC/EWS students and those with family incomes under Rs.

2,50,000 annually. Despite criticisms of teaching methods and placement process, the university offers a feasible and comprehensive educational experience for middle-class students.

GBPUAT B.Sc Agriculture FAQs

Ques. I am from a state other than Uttarakhand. Can I get admission in B.Sc. Agriculture at GBPUAT through the university entrance exam?

Ans. Yes, but with a limitation. Other State candidates are eligible only for payment seats through the GBPUAT University Entrance Examination. For payment seats in B.Sc. Agriculture, you pay an additional Rs. 1,00,000 per annum over and above the routine university fee. Alternatively, you can seek admission through the ICAR All India Quota via CUET (UG), which gives access to normal (non-payment) seats reserved for Other State candidates.

Ques. Is hostel accommodation mandatory at GBPUAT? Can I stay outside the campus?

Ans. Yes, GBPUAT is a fully residential university and hostel accommodation is mandatory for all students. You cannot opt out of hostel accommodation. The campus is spread over 16,000 acres and all academic, residential, and recreational facilities are within the campus. Hostel charges including room rent, electricity, and water are already included in the semester fee.

Ques. What is the RAWE programme in B.Sc. Agriculture at GBPUAT and when does it happen?

Ans. RAWE stands for Rural Agricultural Work Experience. It is a mandatory component of the B.Sc. Agriculture curriculum, typically conducted in the final year. Students are placed in rural villages for a period to gain hands-on experience in agricultural extension, farm management, and interaction with farming communities. It is a credit-bearing programme and is a requirement for degree completion. Similarly, Agricultural Industrial Training (AIT) provides exposure to agri-industry.

Ques. What are the career options after B.Sc. Agriculture from GBPUAT? Is it only farming?

Ans. B.Sc. Agriculture from GBPUAT opens up a wide range of career paths beyond farming. Graduates are recruited by agri-input companies (Bayer, Syngenta, UPL, IFFCO), FMCG companies, banks as Agricultural Officers (IBPS AFO, NABARD Grade A), government departments (Agriculture, Horticulture), and research institutions (IARI, IVRI). Many graduates also pursue M.Sc. Agriculture at GBPUAT or other SAUs, or appear for UPSC/state PSC examinations. The degree is also a gateway to MBA in Agribusiness at institutions like IRMA and IIM Ahmedabad.

Ques. How competitive is the GBPUAT entrance exam for B.Sc. Agriculture? What rank is needed?

Ans. The GBPUAT UG entrance exam is moderately to highly competitive, especially for Uttarakhand domicile candidates competing for 130 normal seats. The exam is based on Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Agriculture at the 10+2 level. For general category Uttarakhand candidates, a rank within the top 100-150 is typically needed for B.Sc. Agriculture. For Other State candidates seeking payment seats, the competition is relatively lower. Exact closing ranks vary each year and are not officially published as cutoffs.

Ques. Does GBPUAT provide placement assistance specifically for B.Sc. Agriculture students? Which companies visit for agriculture graduates?

Ans. Yes, GBPUAT has a dedicated Directorate of Placement and Counselling that facilitates campus recruitment. For B.Sc. Agriculture students, companies from the agri-input sector (ITC, Mahindra Agri, Bayer CropScience, Syngenta, UPL, IFFCO), banking sector (HDFC Bank Agri, SBI), and FMCG companies visit the campus. The median package for B.Sc. Agriculture graduates in 2024 was approximately Rs. 5.6 LPA. Students with strong academic records and relevant internship experience tend to secure better placements. Many students also qualify for government jobs through IBPS AFO, NABARD, and state agricultural services examinations.

The fee structure for my course at the government college is structured to be affordable and comprehensive with no additional charges beyond the outline . For the 1st semester the fee is ?55000 which includes tuition hostel charges lab fees develpment fees and other charges .from the 2nd sem ownwards the fee reduces to approximately 40,000- 45,000 per semester bringing annual fee to be 1lakh and over the entire 4th year course the total fees amt to approximately ?4,00,000. there are no fee concessions based on categories such as sc st or other scholarship opportunities such as merit cum need or other financial aid schemes can be availed depending on the eligibility But other charges such as books notebooks and additional food bills which tends to be more than our purchases which indirectly increases the fees at the semester end ..as much time is given for the fees submission 10,000 or less than this or more than this is our security fees or something which we pay in our first semester.
