Ques. Is there an entrance exam for admission to B.Sc. (Hons.) Food, Nutrition and Dietetics at TNAU?
Ans. No, there is no separate entrance examination for the general quota seats. Admission is purely merit-based on the aggregate marks obtained in the four qualifying subjects in the 12th standard (each subject converted to 50 marks, total out of 200). However, for the 11 ICAR quota seats at CSC&RI, Madurai, candidates must qualify in CUET (ICAR-UG) 2026 conducted by NTA and participate in ICAR's separate online counselling. The CUET (ICAR-UG) 2026 exam is scheduled for May 11-31, 2026.

Ans. Yes, the B.Sc. (Hons.) Food, Nutrition and Dietetics at TNAU is a full-time, on-campus, regular programme. Students are required to attend classes, laboratory sessions, field work, and in-plant training in person at CSC&RI, Madurai. There is no distance or part-time mode available for this programme. Additionally, hostel residence is mandatory for all admitted students unless the Dean grants special permission for day-scholar status in exceptional circumstances.

Ans. The semester fee is Rs. 23,000 per semester, totalling Rs. 1,84,000 for 8 semesters. At the time of admission, you also pay a one-time fee of Rs. 10,925 (for TNHSC students) or Rs. 11,325 (for CBSE/ISCE students), which includes a refundable caution money deposit of Rs. 5,000. An additional sports development fee of Rs. 750 is charged after first semester registration. So the total course fee (excluding hostel) comes to approximately Rs. 1,95,675 for TNHSC students and Rs. 1,96,075 for CBSE/ISCE students. Hostel charges are additional and are shared among students on a dividing system (approximately Rs. 2,700/month for mess + Rs. 1,500 per 6 months for accommodation).
Ques. Can students from outside Tamil Nadu apply for this course at TNAU?
Ans. The general counselling quota is open only to Tamil Nadu nativity candidates or candidates who have studied 10th, 11th, and 12th standards in Tamil Nadu schools. However, candidates from outside Tamil Nadu can apply under the NRI quota, Industry Sponsorship Quota (ISQ), or ICAR quota. The ICAR quota (11 seats at CSC&RI, Madurai) is open to all Indian nationals who qualify in CUET (ICAR-UG) 2026, regardless of state domicile. There is no state domicile requirement for ICAR quota seats.
Ques. What subjects should I have studied in Class 12 to be eligible for this course?
Ans. For B.Sc. (Hons.) Food, Nutrition and Dietetics at TNAU, you must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects. Specifically, you are eligible under: Group II (Physics, Chemistry, Biology with any one elective such as Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Computer Science/IT, Home Science, Nutrition and Dietetics, Agriculture, Horticulture, or Environmental Science) or Group II-A (Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology).
