NIT Warangal's B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) is a 4-year full-time undergraduate programme offered by the Department of Electrical Engineering, one of the oldest and most reputed departments at the institute. The programme covers core areas including power systems, control systems, power electronics, electric machines, signal processing, and embedded systems, with strong emphasis on both theoretical foundations and practical applications. The total fees for the programme are ₹5,00,000 for the 4-year duration (for General/OBC/EWS category), with a seat intake of 115 students. Admission is through JEE Main followed by JoSAA/CSAB counselling. The programme is consistently popular among JEE aspirants due to NIT Warangal's strong industry connections, excellent placement record, and the growing demand for electrical engineers in power, automation, semiconductor, and IT sectors.

Admissions for the 2026-27 academic session are upcoming. JEE Main Session 2 results were declared on April 20, 2026. JoSAA 2026 counselling is expected to commence in early June 2026, with registration and choice filling starting around June 2-10, 2026, and seat allotment rounds running through June-July 2026. Candidates who have qualified JEE Main 2026 and meet the eligibility criteria should register on josaa.nic.in once the counselling portal opens.

NIT Warangal B.Tech EEE FAQs

Ques. What is the JEE Main rank required to get EEE at NIT Warangal for the General category?

Ans. The closing rank for B.Tech EEE at NIT Warangal for the General (Home State) category has historically been in the range of approximately 6,000-9,000 (CRL), while for the Other State quota it tends to be slightly lower, around 5,000-7,500. However, these ranks vary each year depending on the number of applicants and overall difficulty of JEE Main. The Electric Mobility specialisation within EEE has a separate seat matrix with 30 seats and typically has a different (often higher) closing rank. Candidates are advised to check the official JoSAA opening and closing ranks from the previous year at josaa.nic.in for a realistic estimate.

Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for all B.Tech EEE students at NIT Warangal?

Ans. First-year B.Tech students at NIT Warangal are generally allotted hostel accommodation on campus, subject to availability. The institute has separate hostels for boys and girls. For the first year, double occupancy rooms are typically provided, with the total hostel fee (including caution deposit, maintenance, seat rent, water and electricity charges, and mess deposit advance) amounting to approximately ₹43,000 per semester for double occupancy. From the second year onwards, room allotment is done through an internal process, and accommodation is not guaranteed for all students. Students are advised to confirm hostel availability directly with the institute at the time of admission.

Ques. What kind of companies recruit EEE students from NIT Warangal, and are core electrical jobs available?

Ans. EEE students at NIT Warangal are recruited by a mix of core electrical/electronics companies and IT/software firms. Core recruiters include L&T, BHEL, Bosch, ABB, Siemens, Tata Power, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, AMD, and Honeywell, among others. IT and software companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Oracle also recruit EEE students for software and data roles. In 2024-25, the EEE branch recorded an average CTC of ₹17.59 LPA and a highest CTC of ₹53.28 LPA, with a placement rate of 95.9%. Students interested in core electrical roles should focus on building domain knowledge in power systems, power electronics, and embedded systems alongside competitive programming skills.

Ques. What is the difference between the regular B.Tech EEE programme and the B.Tech EEE (Electric Mobility) programme at NIT Warangal?

Ans. NIT Warangal offers two streams under the EEE umbrella: the regular B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with 115 seats, and a specialised B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Electric Mobility) with 30 seats. The Electric Mobility stream is a relatively newer programme focused specifically on electric vehicle technology, battery management systems, motor drives, and sustainable energy. Both programmes are 4-year full-time courses with the same fee structure and admission process through JoSAA. The Electric Mobility stream typically has a different (and often more competitive) JoSAA closing rank due to its smaller seat intake and growing industry relevance.

Ques. Can EEE students at NIT Warangal switch branches after the first year?

Ans. NIT Warangal does have a branch change policy for B.Tech students after the completion of the first year. Students who meet the eligibility criteria - typically a high CGPA (usually 9.0 or above on a 10-point scale) at the end of the first year - can apply for a branch change, subject to seat availability in the desired branch. The process is competitive, and branch changes to CSE or ECE are particularly sought after. EEE students wishing to switch to another branch must maintain an excellent academic record in the first year. The exact criteria and process are announced by the academic section of NIT Warangal each year.

Ques. Are there opportunities for higher studies or research after B.Tech EEE from NIT Warangal?

Ans. Yes, B.Tech EEE graduates from NIT Warangal have strong prospects for higher studies. Many students pursue M.Tech at IITs and NITs through GATE, with NIT Warangal itself offering M.Tech specialisations in Power Systems Engineering, Power Electronics and Drives, Smart Electric Grid, Control and Automation, and Electric Vehicles. Several graduates also pursue MS or PhD programmes abroad at universities in the USA, Germany, and other countries. For those interested in research, the EEE department at NIT Warangal has active research groups in areas such as renewable energy integration, smart grids, power quality, and electric drives, with funding from agencies like DST, SERB, and MNRE.
