Course Curriculum Overview

2

The course model is extremely outdated. Additional Courses (VAC, SEC, and AEC) that are a compulsion for all students fail to align with our career choices. They extend college hours unnecesarily and prove to be an additional burden during exams when students would like to focus on their core subjects.

Placement Experience

4

Students in the 3rd year onwards are eligible for placements. Organizations like Bain and Accenture Strategy have frequent intakes from the college with several students getting offers every year. The Placement and Internship cell play an important part in these placement drives.

Fees and Financial Aid

My yearly college fee as a General Category B.A. Programme Student is Rs. 28,380. This amount includes the following sub-categories: Tuition Fee: 180/- Admission Fee: 5/- University Development Fee: 1200/- University Cultural Fee: 5/- University Student Union: 40/- University Enrollment Fee: 200/- W.U.S: 5/- University Athletics Fee: 50/- University Student Welfare Fund: 250/- University Facilities and Services Charge: 1250/- EWS Support University Fund: 200/- College Student Welfare Fund: 6370/- College Development Fund: 2500/- College Facilities and Services Charges: 16,180 For other courses in my batch, the fee varies from Rs. 25,000 to 29,600. The college provides academic prizes along with merit-cum-needs based scholarships to deserving candidates.

Campus Life

5

Confluence is our annual cultural fest, even though the last couple of years have not seen the best that the college can offer. Every society organizes their own fest. For example, Swaranjali - The Music Society organizes "Rachnotsav" while Statecraft - The MUN Society of Hansraj College organizes it's flagship "Hansraj MUN". The library material is up-to-date with new books being issued frequently.

Admission

The brand value of the college played an important role in choosing it over others. Among the colleges I have applied to in India, this was perhaps the hardest to get into due to the CUET examinations. Despite scoring well (95.5%) in my ISC Class 12 examinations, I had to finish the CBSE syllabus in a month to sit for CUET. The exposure that the college gives is also fantastic.

Faculty

4

We have a very efficient faculty-to-student ratio, especially for my course. Most professors are very approachable, even tending to queries after college hours regarding other aspects of professional life. To name one, professor Anand Mittal from the Economics department is one of the most experienced and caring teachers I have interacted with. His experience from being a part of the civil services align with his teaching and life lessons that he regularly imparts to his students. There are two end semester exams in each academic year, with continuous assesment as a part of the final cumulative grade. Exams are generally easy.

Night Life

5

There is a wide array of cafes, food joints, and shopping stores right outside Hansraj on Bungalow Road towards Kamla Nagar. Kamla Nagar offers budget places to hang out with friends, whereas one might often find themselves in Hudson Lane enjoying a cup of coffee on the weekends.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

As a future law student philosophy was one of the options which was good to opt. Secondly, comparatively less people opt it and it can be one of the better choices if you are preparing for upsc and taking it as an optional. Teaching can be made more interactive as the topics are really interesting

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
