What Students Say
Likes
- The infrastructure is quite good, it has 2 buildings, a big ground, plenty of greenery, well managed library, decent labs and spacious classrooms.
- The teachers are pretty serious when it comes to academics, they make sure to compensate for the missed classes (although that rarely happens). They are also very helpful and friendly, and can be reached out to whenever needed.
- Great teachers, good style of teaching, easily reachable, and active research mentors. They are well qualified and give quality education to the students with full dedication.
Dislikes
- The washrooms are good for nothing, very dirty and broken.
- The auditorium is big and pretty but they haven't got their license renewed so they never use it which is very unprofessional.
- The campus life is very dull.Minimal exposure and opportunities.
Course Curriculum Overview
My course is BMS, Bachelor of Management Studies. You can call it a reputed and more professional version of BBA. The curriculum is well designed as per course needed and it covers all relevant concepts semester-wise. We also get to choose our specifications during the II year. The choice is between HR, Finance and Marketing. I personally opted for finance but I still think there's a gap between the BBA-FIA course and BMS Finance which should be bridged in my opinion. The subjects offered are very interesting and specification based. They cover a good range of the field chosen. They give you a real idea of the knowledge needed in the real-world applications. I highly recommend this course overall over BBA anytime but I will suggest opting for BBA FIA instead of BMS if you want to go into core finance. Course curriculum is relevant and not rote-based. It is very conceptual and involves practical components as and when needed. Teaching methods are top notch. Teachers keep in mind the exam difficulty level and frequently conduct assignments and test to keep up with the practice. No complaint there.
Placement Experience
Shaheed Rajguru does provide campus placements but they are not very fancy. A couple of companies like Ebullient, EY, PRC India come and offer maximum around 5lpa, which is not decent compared to what Shaheed Sukhdev offers to its students (around 15-20 lpa). Students in their final year are eligible to sit for campus placements. Percentage of students getting placed is also small in number. My personal plans are to pursue higher education after this.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee here at Delhi University has always been very minimal in my opinion. Talking about Bachelors of Management Studies(BMS) at Shaheed Rajguru College of Applied Sciences in particular, -First year fee ranges from 11k to 13k -Second year fee ranges from 16k-18k -Third year fee ranges from 20k-22k It increases semester-wise. This is inclusive of everything and no other amount is taken in any name apart from this. Several scholarships and fee concessions are also available.
Campus Life
The overall campus life is not as lively as the main campus's of DU. There are mainly 2 fests held annually- Karvaan(Cultural) in March and Iidaira(Technical) in October-November. They are very creative but students complain about the timings, strictness and lack of well known performing artists as it usually happens in the main campus of DU. A sports fest is also held somewhere around February, called Spardha. Students from various colleges actively participate in this. The student council is also not given much liberty to change those particulars significantly. DU elections do not take place in our college, and hence we are not given any holiday and any votes since it doesn't apply here. There are many societies and cells but only a couple are active seasonally. Rest exist but not that socially active. Students are not that passionate about giving their time into extra curriculars since the student engagement is very insipid and so is the budget. However, Enactus Shaheed Rajguru has been working very well overall, in and off campus.
Admission
My first preference was Shaheed Sukhdev because it is the best known college for BMS course, considering the placements, exposure, reputation, etc. However I did not make it there, I couldn't clear the cutoff by a couple questions. The competition for this college is very severe. My second choice was the college I am currently in, Shaheed Rajguru and I got into it in the very first list of DU. I chose it because it has a great NIRF rank, is well known for its good faculty and academics, has a good reputation. It is an off campus girls college so it lacks exposure.I gave academics a higher preference and that's why I chose this one. My further choices were Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, and College of Vocational Studies but since I got my 2nd preference in the first list itself, I didnt have to choose between them. They too are very good college for the same course. Talking about the exam process now, We had to sit for CUET UG. BMS at Delhi University particularly requires 3 subjects, English, General Test and Maths. The combined score of these 3 is then considered during the merit lists. You are also alloted course-wise ranks during the result process of CUET. My score was 500 for this and the cutoff for Shaheed Sukhdev was 550. The admission process was easy and there were around 3-4 merit lists released in total, plus a spot round.
Faculty
The faculty members are amazing. They are strict but also friendly, as the situation requires. Students can easily reach out to them in case of any discrepancy. They take the academics seriously, make sure to cover everything, clear all doubts simulataneously and relate concepts with real life as well. Some of them have published very reputed research papers and they willingly mentor students for the same as well. They make sure that they give marks as per performance and nothing for free, students work hard to earn those grades. Exams are held commonly among University of Delhi. The paper does not differ for different colleges. They take place at the end of every semester. They are theory based. Students are also marked on the basis of internal assesments, continuous evaluations, class participation and attendance. Exams are usually neither easy not difficult, they are concept based and test the students' knowledge appropriately. Timely tests are also conducted during the semester to keep record of progress of the students.
Night Life
The hostel rules are very strict. I am a day scholar but I have heard that the students do not get much liniency there. The curfew is for 6pm. Our campus life usually ends around 5pm and we do have one spot called Mac Market nearby. It is a hub of various local cafes, dominos, subway, stationary shops, etc. It lies between our college and Maharaja Agrasen (MAC) so the students from both college can interact and socialise there. The nearby area around campus is safer comparitively but I find the region very unsafe otherwise. Commuting till metro is also not very safe.
Other Applied Colleges
Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies - [SSCBS] | Bachelor of Management Studies [BMS]
Score gap
Keshav Mahavidyalaya | Bachelor of Management Studies [BMS]
It was my 3rd preference, as its NIRF ranking was lower than my current college
