What Students Say
Likes
- College fees is very affordable and reasonable compared to other institutions, making it easier for students from different backgrounds to pursue their studies without much financial burden.
- motivated, they always think out of the box and have a good way of thinking. Seniors are also very helpful and supportive.
- Faculty members are really good and well-qualified, some of them even have PhD degrees. Their way of teaching is clear and satisfactory.
Dislikes
- The college campus is quite small, with just one main building and a ground, while the second building is about a kilometer away. There’s hardly any proper place to sit, relax, or chill with friends — it really feels cramped and disconnected.
- The canteen food is just average, nothing special, and there aren’t many food options to choose from. After a few days, it starts feeling repetitive, and you really wish there were more variety or better taste.
- The college location is quite poor, it’s around 7 km away from the main city, and the only way to reach there is by bus. The worst part is that buses don’t come on time or very often, so traveling becomes really frustrating.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because the CSE curriculum involves learning coding, which is something I’m really interested in. The curriculum prepares us well for real-world applications and also supports further academic goals. However, it could be improved by giving more importance to practical learning instead of too much theory. Every month we have CA exams—CA1 and CA2 are usually easy, while CA3 and CA4 are a bit tougher. At the end of the semester, we also have the main semester exams.
Internships Opportunities
The college offers very few internship opportunities, so most students have to find internships on their own. Only occasionally, like a few months ago when Infosys offered one, we get good openings from the college. Since such chances are rare, students usually need to take the initiative and look for internships outside.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for campus placements from the 7th semester. Companies like TCS, Cognizant, IBM, Infosys, and Capgemini visit the campus. The highest package offered is around 12 LPA, the lowest is about 2 LPA, and the average package is between 3 to 4 LPA. Around 70–80% of students get placed. After completing my degree, my plan is to get a job.
Fees and Financial Aid
In our college, the yearly fees are ?1,24,000, which includes tuition, registration, and admission fees. No extra charges are taken apart from the exam fees. All my batchmates pay the same amount. The only scholarship available is for home state students under the Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship Scheme.
Campus Life
Our college’s annual cultural fest is called IMPULSE, usually held in mid-August. The technical fest, BITS2BYTE, also takes place in August, and the freshers’ party, named LITHIUM, is organized in February. The library has many semester and course-related books available for students. The classrooms are basic with no advanced technological facilities. There is a ground where students can play, and the college also hosts sports events like cricket, football, and indoor games such as table tennis and carrom.
Admission
I didn’t apply to any other college because my rank matched this one. I had contacted a few other colleges for admission, but they rejected me due to my rank. The admission process here is very simple—you just need to select this college in the counseling form, or you can also get direct admission based on your 12th-grade percentage.
Faculty
The faculty members are really friendly and easy to approach. There’s a teacher named Debasish Pradhan who is very supportive and helps solve almost all college-related issues. We have four continuous assessment exams — CA1, CA2, CA3, and CA4 — which are like mid-sem exams, and then the end-semester exams. The exams are of moderate difficulty. Some students fail, but it can easily be avoided with proper study and preparation. The curriculum is mostly relevant, though a few subjects feel less useful.
Night Life
There aren’t many good hangout spots near the college, but there is a gym and a few food places a little distance away. If you want to visit better hangout locations, you’ll need to take a bus. The college doesn’t have a hostel, but there are PGs nearby, you can't go outside after 10 PM. Some good places to visit like Science City, Eco Park, and Victoria Memorial are nice but quite far from the college.
