What Students Say
Likes
- The faculty of the English department is really competent and nice.
- The college societies especially the ones related to dance and debating are active throughout the year and they provide recreational opportunities.
- The campus has people from around the country be it the south or northeast. So you get to talk with and explore different cultures.
Dislikes
- The campus can be a bit strict relating the dress code, especially for women.
- One is not allowed to loiter in the college. So you can't just sit in an empty classroom even if you aren't making noise.
- The administration has layers of rules and protocols for everything which can be frustrating sometimes.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum of the BA in English course is comprehensive as it convers most literary periods and important writers in the English literart canon. There is a paper on content and creative writing as well. However the course can be made more relevant with the current job market in mind.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees is to be paid each semester in two installments. Usually the first installment is around 15k and the second installment is around 20k. This is paid in two semesters so yearly the amount comes up to 60-70 k. These do change every year so one has to keep themselves updated regularly.
Campus Life
The annual fest Xavotsav is an extravaganza, lasting three days with notable personalities coming in. Apart for that each department has their own fest which take place at different times throughout the year. Each society also has an annual event. Overall the campus life is happening.
Admission
This college are just right for me because along with being a reputed institution, my particular course of English honours is one of the best in this college. The college has consistently stayed in top 10 in nirf rankings as well.
Faculty
There are 8 professors in the English department and they're all very nice and approachable. They help out whenever it's needed and their lectures are comprehensive enough. If you attend the lectures regularly you should have no problem passing through the course. For scoring better extra research work has to be done though. In one semester there are two exams - mid semester and end semester along with assignments.
Interview Experience
There was no group discussion or written test for the admission. The process was entirely based on boards marks. They have a certain formula to calculate your entry marks where the marks of the subject you're applying for is taken into more consideration than your overall marks.
Night Life
There is no night life as such. The hostel curfew is 5:30 pm for all students except the Bcom evening batch who have classes in the evening. The library and canteen stay open till the bcom evening classes happen but they're usually empty after 5.
