A glimpse into Gauhati University's geology department

The teachers prepare students well for jobs at different companies and gives marks based on our understanding of the subject. But some of the teachers need to interact more with the students. The internal examination are not well timed and give little time for students to study.

There are various companies such as Oil, Ongc which offers intership opportunities along with other Universities and colleges such as IITa and NITs. Even central and state government offices are open towards taking internship in various fields.

At the time of admission 10000 rupees. Semester wise exam fees is nearly 1200 rupees. Total of 4 semesters, we can opt for library facilities with just 200 rupees. Everyones fees is same and not different based on reservation. A scholarship of 3 lakh from Oil comes for students having parents income less than 2 lakh. Another one is from NSP which gives scholarship of 3 lakh to students having parents income less than 4 lakhs.

Annually there is a Varsity week held every year during the month of February or March which is a week for participation into games and extra curricular activities competition. Also there are several department wise, community wise held events throughout the year.

There are many hostels available for students and at a very low cost which provides good water, electricity, food facilities. But students can choose to stay in rent rooms or paying guest rooms if they choose to which is also available nearby. One should choose hostels only if they can't afford rent rooms, otherwise I would suggest not choosing hostel for many reasons

Because of the qualification of the teachers many opt for studying here instead of other Universities, also the course they offer is good for jobs. The University conducts Post graduate entrance test every year for the students wanting to do masters here. Students can fillup forms before exams.

The faculty members are highly talented and experienced and graduated from various top institutions and did jobs in GSI and other high paying jobs. There are total 15 faculty members for teaching and also under them there are several research scholars who also takes classes. The course is of 2 semesters per year for 2 years. and semester exams are held at 3-5 months of interval along with internal assessment tests.

There is a library for the students to go for studying after attending lectures. There's a canteen inside the library where students can go, there are multiple numbers of canteen available throughout the campus for students which are available at a lower cost. Students including boys and girls both roam around the University campus carefree as the campus is safe and beautiful.
