Course Curriculum Overview

3

I choosed the Computer Science and Engineering branch beacuse I have interest in computer related things. As upcoming future will be full of AI so I can also learn about AI here. In CSE curriculum, I will be taught about programming languages and web development which I can use to create websites and develop applications. I think this curriculum will help my in many aspects for my future. I can't tell the impovements now because I'm in first year and I haven't studied a lot about my course. But as I had asked from seniors, they didn't told me about any negative sides of the curriculum. So I think there is no much need for improvements in the Course Curriculum. For Teaching Methods I think professors could be more practical instead of theoritical. They can teach us by showing how things work practically in real life. In a semester, exams are taken two times, first one is known as mid semester examination and second one is end term examination. Mid term examination is taken after nearly 2 months of the semester and other at the end of the semester. Many quizzes and practicals are also taken time to time and these also has a significant role in the final marks. I think timing of exams are good because quizzes are taken before 2 or 3 weeks before exams so that we could get an idea about the final or mid term exams. This is a good strategy it plays a role for revision.

Internships Opportunities

3

PEC has well sturctured internship program. Career Development and Guidance Centre (CDGC) at PEC plays a important role for interships. Third year students can undergo a semester long internship for which they have to give an interview. Stipend depends on the company and skill set of the student. Last year highest stipend was arounf 1,70,000 rupees per month, which is a very good amount. As PEC is 100+ years old so it has a great Alumni network and reputation. Many big companies visit PEC to hire students for interhsip programs. These companies includes Microsoft, Uber, American Express, JP Morgan etc. These companies hire students for different roles. These roles could be software development, data anlytics, product development, financial analysis and risk management etc. However the intership stats looks fascinating but getting it is not much easy. You need to have a good skill set for getting a good intership.

Placement Experience

4

Placements of PEC are very good. It beats many top tiers engineering colleges of India in terms of placement. From 7th semester you can sit for placement. Companies starts visiting your college in 7th semester. You can also get a internship offer in 5th semester as many companies visits the college for interens. Many companies visited PEC in 2023 and made nearly 518 offers which was the highest no of offers made in the last 5 years. Highest package of 2023 was 83 lacks and average package was 16.71 lacks. Different companies gives different salary and package. Around 70-75% of students get placed every year, this data could vary year to year. My plans after getting the degree is to get a good job.

Fees and Financial Aid

We have to pay 88,000 rs per semester and BTech is of 4 years and 8 semesters so total fees for BTech is rs 7,71,000 including one time admission fees of rs 5000, one time student service fee of rs 6000, security deposit (refundable ) of rs 8000 and other facilities and services of rs 6000 per semester. This fee structure is for 2024-2028, it could increase after that. For SC, ST category students, they have to pay half of the total tution fees. Merit Scholarships :- Full free ship on tuition fee to top 2 students on the basis of their JEE Main rank for first year. They also have to maintain a CGPA of 9 or above to avail full free ship and if their CGPA is between 8.5 and 9 then they have to pay half tuition fee. Full free-ship on tutition fee to all students belonging to PWD students whose family annual income does'nt exceed rs 500000. Half free-ship on tuition fee to PWD students whose family annual income is less than 1000000. Full free-ship on fee including hostel fee to all students belonging to BPL category.

Campus Life

3

Name of annual fest of PEC is PECFEST and it helds in october or november every year. It helds for 3 days. Many artists are invited to perform here and overall experience of PECFEST is awesome. Many companies sponsor the fest and you can see all type of stalls for eating, clothing and games too. Professional stunt artists come to perform their stunts. Books storage in library is vast. You can issue books very easily, you just need your ID card and then you can issue book. Library is fully centralised AC and Wifi connection is good there. Almost in every classroom there are projectors where professors used to project their ppts so that you could get a better understanding about the topic. Each classroom has 4 ACs too. There are mainly 3 grounds for sports and extracurricular activites including cricket ground, football ground and athletic ground. There are also basketball court, squash court, lawn tennis court, badminton court too. PEC also has a GYM where you could take care of your fitness. There are many social groups and clubs where you can explore your talent and interests. This impacts a student life a lot like there is a club name DRAMS where you can dance and act. Also there are many clubs which you can join.

Hostel Facilities

2

I'm living in a shared room. I have a room mate. Hostel rooms are very small for 2 people. You can place 2 beds and one study table only. Rooms are also not very good, rooms are very old. Food of mess is also not very good. It's quality is just enough so that one person can survive. Menu is good as you good 2 type of vegetables at lunch and dinner, sweet dish at dinner and breakfast is also decent. But taste of food is just okaish. You have to register for hostel at the time of physical verification. You have to pay 81,500 rupees for 1 year [ excluding mess bill]. Normally mess fees for a month is around 3,300 rupees. You can also rent a PG or room in Naya Gaon which is very close to the college campus.

Admission

I have choosen this college over many other colleges due to its location and its placement statistics. This college is located in Chandigarh and everybody knows about the Chandigarh - pollution free, standards of living, and places to visit. I had applied for NIT Kurukshetra and i got a confirmed admission form but then I changed my mind and chosed PEC. I compared the placement statistics and campus. I didn't got any rejection from other college, I chosed this college myself. My neighbour had first told me about PEC and I searched about it and found it very good. For getting admission in BTech in PEC, first you have to clear an exam called JEE Mains. On the basis of ranks in JEE Mains you get admission here. Also you need atleast 75% in 12th boards. Then you have to sit in JOSAA councelling. Every year rank for getting admission is changing, sometimes you need higher rank or lower rank based on the number of students applying for this college. There are many benefits for the students belonging to different castes as some seats are reserved for different categories students. Overall admission process is good as your admission is confirmed online, you just have to visit the college after the councelling is done to complete the admission process.

Faculty

3

Faculty to Student ration in my college is 1:21. Relationship between students and faculties is very good. Faculties are very helpful and easily approachable, you can text them for any doubt. I can't tell the names but there are many teachers which I liked the most because of their nature and teaching way. They teaches in a way that you just have to listen and you can understand easily. Some faculties I don't like is because of the anger issues. Some teachers get angry on small topics which I don't like. They also teaches good but their nature is something which I don't want. Some faculties I also don't like because of their teaching way. They just come in class, writes on board and go or some comes, open the ppt on projector and then go. Every sem has different number of exams depending on your course. Exams are not very difficult, they are easy if you have studied enough and know all the terms related to the couse. Many students falis in particular subjects because they don'y study well. Exam is not very difficult that you can't pass. In first year, I think course curriculum is not relevant. All branches has almost same subjects. I'm in CSE branch and I had studies physics, chemistry, electonics and many more subjects which are not relevant to my branch.

Night Life

3

My favorite hang out spots is PEC Market and Campus Cafe. I used to go daily there. Students usally spend time with their friends or play outdoor games after a hectic gay of classes. GYM is not very good because of equipments there, some are broken and some are not there. Cafeterias is good and library is also decent good. As I'm in first year, so for students of first year hostel timing is 10 PM (boys) and 8PM (girls) and you have to make a entry at the gate if you are entering hostel after 10 pm. Inside college, students use to hangout at PEC Market and Nescafe. Outside college, there are many places like Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden and many more places as this college is situated in Chandigarh. If you want to watch movies then you can go to Alante Mall. But late entry at night is very difficult as guards are very strict about this.

Other Applied Colleges

NIT Kurukshetra | Artificial Intelligence

I chosed this college due to the placement statistics of Punjab Engineering College.

The seniors told us tyhat about 200 companies came the last time the sat for the interviews and some of them offered greeat packages ( keeping in mind the reccesion ). Highest package offered was around 32 lakhs. 5 students were offered this salary.( Company - cant recall ) The avreage package keeping in mind the mass recruitement ( done by wipro) would be arounnd 5-6 lakhs.

There are a lot of options to get admission into the college. I got admission through giving college's entrance test which was pretty challenging. I followed the forums online and revised my syllabus of class 9th to 12th inorder to be able to crack the entrance. Apart from this, I also studied the previous year papers which were pretty good and helped me see the pattern of the examination. Overall, the admission process is easy.
