Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum covers the latest industry trends, technologies and skills required for real-world applications and includes important concepts. Little outdated concept, a theoretical focus with minimal practice.
Internships Opportunities
Many companies offered internships at our college for example Apple offered 6 months internship with a stipend of 90,000pm, JP Morgan and Chase for 70,000pm, Accenture, Texas, Reliance and many other companies.
Placement Experience
From the 5th semester onwards companies come for summer internships for 6th semester summer break, and if you succeed in getting an internship you can easily get a PPO after completing the internship. Companies for placements start coming from the 7th semester onwards, Majorly big companies come for placements for eg, Apple comes for internship and PPO, Big 4 companies, Samsung Swiggy, Zomato, Ola, L&T, Texas Instruments, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki etc. As students have increased in the courses in the past few years placements are declining because companies come for 5-10 only and the large pool of students apply and get rejected.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fees per semester for B.E. Electrical Engineering were Rs.1,23,600, the Examination fees were Rs.3000, the Development fees were Rs.55,000, and the Medical and Insurance charges were Rs.500. These are per-semester fees. The Yearly fees were around Rs. 4 lakhs, not including hostel and mess charges. There are many Merit-based scholarships available for students, for students above a CGPA of 8.5 there were scholarships and their tuition fees were laid off up to a certain percentage. Scholarships are available for Jammu Kashmir students.
Campus Life
Overall, my experience has been positive with the perfect balance of academics and extracurricular and social engagement. The campus provides a supportive and dynamic environment that encourages both professional and personal growth.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel's infrastructure is world-class, you won't feel like you are staying in a hostel, food is average but the varieties are offered in mess, evening and night canteen are available in hostels till 12AM.
Admission
I applied to different private colleges, but I had my reason for choosing it because Thapar was near to my city and was quite famous for its education and placement. The admission procedure was quite easy for my batch as it I was in the 2021 COVID batch, so were supposed to upload our JEE and Board documents on the Thapar application itself, when the results were out seat was automatically updated on its website, if you got the seat in the branch you wanted you can freeze it or pay the tuition fees and request for an update in the second round. If you get a seat in another better college you can easily apply for a refund.
Faculty
For Lectures Faculty to student ratio varies from 1:100 to 1:150, but in tutorial and practical classes it is 1:20 Sessional quizzes and lab evals twice in one semester, Mid-semester exams once in a semester and End Semester exams once in a semester. Weightage is as follows: Sessional and Lab eval 30 marks, Mid Semester exam is 25 marks and End Semester exam is 45 marks.
Night Life
There is no such as nightlife, the hostel gate closes at 8:30 but most classes end by 6 so we have evening life, the gym is available at the hostels itself, and there is COS for restaurants, grocery shopping, a salon all things are available inside the campus only, but you can explore Patiala city till 8 pm as main gate closes by 8 pm
