What Students Say
Likes
- My college has a great exposure to technical as well as non tech activities. There are many active clubs for technical activities like IEEE, IEDC , IDEATOR which are mostly funded from government. They help us to develop a tech mindset and knowledge
- The Society of Automotive Engineers ( SAE ) in my college is one of the top in the south entire South India. Mostly the best in Kerala.
- The freedom to explore any field you want is the main beauty of our college. Aslo there are a tone of feats , the college is active everytime with many celebrations.
Dislikes
- The old infrastructure in many labs is a main problem. Also some poor maintenance in some departments.
- The Outdated syllabus provided by the university
- The improper design of the curriculum which mainly focuses to stress out students rather than teach them something industry relevant.
Course Curriculum Overview
The syllabus is outdated. It doesn't teach any industry relevant skills to the students, they have to learn it seperately. They can improve the exam patterns , types . I think they have to include a lot more practical learnings. The exams frequency is very high. We won't get enough time to prepare for the exams . There are 2 series test 2 lab exams in one semester. All these get only around 3 to 4 months time.
Internships Opportunities
There are not much internship opportunities provided by the college. The main internships the EEE people get are from Kseb , some transformer making companies in the local areas. The other internships are from kdisc , kerala startup mission, tinkerhub etc.
Placement Experience
Students gets interview calls in s7 and s8 ( last year ). Intership can be done from the third year onwards. The average package of EEE is 6 lpa. The highest was about 15 lpa. The highest in the college was 50 lpa , it was for a CS student. About 60 percent students attending placements will get atleast one offer. My aim is to secure a job right after btech
Fees and Financial Aid
Aa my college is a government college the only fee I had to pay was around 10 thousand at the admission time , nothing more. But the university (ktu) takes many fees like tution fee, exam fee , course registration fee... In one semester it is around 6 thousand only. There are many scholarships available if your income is less than one lakh per year or if you are in SC/ST
Campus Life
Dythi is the main fest of our college. There are many other technical, arts , sports festivals also. The overall college life is amazing. The college is ideal for anyone with great ambitions or someone who doesn't even know what to do next. The facilities, infrastructure are a bit old as it is one of the oldest colleges in the country.
Admission
Government Engineering College Thrissur is considered as the 2nd best Engineering College under ktu and 5th best in overall Kerala state. This college has its own brand value. I tried to get an admission in Nit Calicut but my jee score was only 88 percentile. I couldn't get a seat in there. Then the next best option for me was gec Thrissur as it was the best college near to my home. The college offers a wide exposure to various tech and non tech activities. You will have the freedom to choose your own path and work for it. There seperate clubs for technical , arts , cinema, astrology, everything. No one will has to regret choosing Gec Thrissur.
Faculty
The 50 percent of the Faculties are great , they have industry experience knowledge in depth and also friendly . They can guide you to a better path to achieve a good career in engineering. The rest 50 percent are booring, they have ego issues , mostly stick with the old savage syllabus. The exams and valuations are done by the university ( ktu ). The curriculum of 2019 scheme is outdated and doesn't teach much relevant knowledge to the students. The 2024 scheme has some relevant subjects . The exams usually have an average difficulty, sometimes gets a lot hard. But the exam results are completely unpredictable, that's the main issue in ktu. You can even get failed even after writing the exam well , or also get a high grade with minimal knowledge.
Night Life
The college gym closes at 7 in the evening. The college Canteen closes at 6pm. The library closes at 5pm. There not many open facilities in night but the campus has atleast some technical works ( usually sae) going on in the nights. At the time of any fest the campus is active 24/7. And there are atleast 1 or 2 festival in every semester.
