An Honest Review : TMSL

The course curriculum is designed as per the Makaut guidelines and AICTE rules. It emphasizes on increasing a perosn's knowledge and skills and also make them industry ready. But Personally I think the curriculum needs an update as the technology and industry are changing rapidly, so the course should be updated like wise. Also I find that introduction of unnecessary subjects in 1st year like Chemistry and Mechanical workshop is just increasing burden on the batches of entirely different domain. I choose Computer Science Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning as my course because it was the best option available on the rank I got in the WBJEE exam. Also at the current time the branch of AI is booming and progressing rapidly so I saw this as a great opportunity to increase my career prospect.

I don't have much knowledge regarding the internship scenario of the college but it is average as what I have heard. One has to work hard himself to grap the very less opportunities that come in college.

One of the thing I dislike about this college is the placement scenario. During admission I was told that being in a corporate sector location the college has a good placement opportunities but after coming to college I saw that the college is not at all transparent to the students regarding the placement statistics. Since I am a first year student here I don't have much knowledge regarding this but as to what I have heard most of the good packages one get is off-campus.Mostly service based companies visit the campus for placement. No statistics of placement is provided by the college anywhere , just the percentage placement of every branch is given on its site which does not look genuine honestly. The average package offered is 5-7lpa for CSE related branches as of what I have heard. If you get a better college and can afford go for it, or you can try for GATE, CAT, SSC , UPSC as a future plan. Otherwise you have to work very hard on your own in order to grab a good placement opportunity.

The fees ranges between ?65000-?85000 per semester. The total fees for our course i.e. for B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) is ?6,05,000 for batch 2024-28. Though this fees is static for us but it may increase or decrease for the upcoming batches as per the decision made by the college board. Also , as Techno Main Salt Lake is a college under MAKAUT University so we have to pay a registration fees of ?7500 once and exam fees of ?1200 every semester. There are TFW seats for Bengal Students i.e. eligible students will pay less fees for the course but as such no scholarship for students exist.

The campus life is average. The campus size is small so it somehow looks crowded. There are 2 playgrounds for students to play and sports event mainly take place outside the campus in some rented statiums.The infrastructure looks more like a typical school. Most of the classes are neither air conditioned not has smart boards. The library is small but air conditioned and consist of basic and standard engineering related books. The college have clubs like Educational Club called Samarth, Cultural club called Ankhuran , Sports club called TechnUtkarsh. Students can join any group according to their interest. These clubs organise different events from time to time. For example Freshers Party and Fests are held by Cultural club in month of February whereas cricket leagues called TMCL ( Techno Main Cricket League) is held by Sports club. Also many social events like blood donation and others are held inside the campus.

I applied for different colleges and gave different exams. Due to my laziness and non-discipline attitude during my studies in class 11-12th I made a blunder in my entrance exams and couldn't get into different colleges I wanted to. I applied for JEE but could only achieve 90 percentile. So couldn't get into any IIT, NIT, IIIT, GFTI or any reputed college with that rank in JEE. I also applied for VIT integrated course and KIIT and got CSE related branch in each and achieved a good rank in Comedk to get CSE branch in a very reputed college in Banglore or anywhere in Karnataka. But since Banglore as a city and the fees of these colleges were very high so I didn't find it right to go in these colleges as I know my families financial constrains. Also my future plans are to go into research field or get into civil services so I was not in favour of spending so much money for undergratuate programs. I gave WBJEE and I got a rank of 10576 and couldn't make it to the government colleges as being a Non -bengali our options are limited. So I applied for other reputed private colleges under WBJEE and got this college in round 2 of councelling. The college according to its fees looked reasonable to me and so I decided to pursue my course of Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) from Techno Main Salt Lake , Kolkata.

The overall faculty of the college seems good. Some professors are very excellent and their mode of teaching is very engaging whereas some professor's teach so boringly that the students loose their interest in the subject. Many professors have completed their P.hd and have a good grasp over their subject. In the first semester the professors of Quantum Mechanics, Mathematics and Statistical Mechanics were excellent. Also the strength of a section of batch is between 60-80 students per class so professors do pay attention to queries or children if asked. First year we have to study diverse subjects also like electrical, physics and all. Our college is not autonomous and therefore the semester exams are held by the MAKAUT University to which our college is affiliated to. There are 4 CAs( Continuous assessment test) of 25 marks each in each subject , held every semester ,our of which 3 CAs marks are given by college professors and 1 CA is conducted online at Makaut portal.Out of the 4 CA's the average of best 2 are taken and 5 marks is awarded on the basis of attendance and therefore we have 70 marks semester theory exams held by MAKAUT. The question paper is moderate and markings assessment are strictly done by Makaut Professors. We also have workshops/labs which also add to our semester CGPAs. There are 2 PCAs of 40 marks are held every semester in each practical subject , out of which the best score is taken and 60 marks are awarded on the basis of Practicals which will be held under the supervisions of the invigilator during Practical exams. One need to work hard overall in order to maintain a good progress in the course.

As the campus is not so big so there is no attractive spot or infrastructure inside the campus.There are 4 small cafeterias inside the campus but no gyms or anything such. But since the location of the college is in a corporate hub there one can experience a good busy city life of a metropolitan city around the college. The locality around is well lit and roads are busy but safe to move around. Food chains and malls are situated near the campus where students can enjoy in their free time. There are no hostels in the campus of college but a hostel affiliated to college but students are free to live in a PG nearby .
