Course Curriculum Overview
the curriculum should not stress much on the topics such as EVS and languages. instead, practical learning should be given more importance. the exams occur once in every semester. for a 90 mark exam, the duration is 3 hours. for a 30 mark exam like EVS, the duration is 1 hour. the difficulty level is medium if you have been attending the lectures.
Internships Opportunities
internship opportunities are offered to all years. companies and NGOs offer internships. political organizations, like the AAP also offer internship roles. most internships are unpaid and include a certificate of completion and a letter of reference. other internships include 2k-5k stipend with the same perks.
Placement Experience
campus placements are offered to 3rd and 4th year students. internship opportunities are offered to all years. prominent companies hire the freshers like wipro. my plans after getting the degree is to consider the college placements offering content writer or editorial jobs. the average package is 200000 per annum.
Fees and Financial Aid
the year wise fees i paid for BA English Honours, belonging to the general category is 18015. there has been no update regarding the fees increasing in the coming years. besides, i have paid a society fee of 600 in 1st year. the registration fee for DU was 200-400 rs. the examination fee was 1400 for me, and it changes with the changes in optional subjects.for categories like EWS, the yearly fee is 13000. for other categories it ranges from 15000-16000 per annum. financial aid is also available for students if they need, namely the financial support system which offers 10% to 50% fee waivers for different categories of income. DU merit based scholarship is also offered, and DU sports scholarship is also available.
Campus Life
there are many performing and non performing societies that take auditions and interviews to admit new members. i am a part of my departmental magazine, Bitacora. i appeared for recruitment test to be selected as a team member. the library has a vast collection of classic books. the annual fest, reverie is held every February - march, along with fests for diwali, navratri. freshers party is also organised. different conferences take place in which the students can take part as volunteers and earn certificates. every sport equipment is available and the ground has a basketball court and a cricket pitch, football nets as well. badminton and tennis courts are also available.
Admission
i applied to all the top colleges of north and south campus at DU. in total, i applied to 12 colleges including hansraj, hindu, st Stephen's from north campus and venkateswara, LSR and gargi from south campus. the college is overall really good, only the infrastructure is a bit lesser than other colleges. the admission process was through CSAS rounds, which were to be applied for after appearing for CUET. i scored 713/800 in CUET and i was allotted a seat in Gargi college in the very first round of CSAS allocations. the usual cutoff for my college ranges from 700-725.
Faculty
the faculty to student relations are good as long as the student is sincere and respectful. the faculty is enough approachable for essential things. the english department has some of the best teachers in the college who are highly experienced and have worked in various areas. Ms. Pragya Gupta and Dr. Anjna Naira Devi are some of the highly respected and learned professors. The course curriculum is credit based, with 4 credits to each DSC subject in the course, 4 credits to GE, and 2 credits each to SEC, VAC and AEC. students are supposed to select a GE which does not fall under their existing course. 7 semesters with the same GE earns a minor degree. Students are supposed to choose different SEC and VAC every semester, and AEC works with EVS in the odd semesters and a language in the even semesters. the total marks for DSC subjects are 160, with 90 coming from the end of semester (external exams) and 70 coming from a combination of IA and CA and attendance, which is considered the internals. clearing the exam becomes pretty easy if you score well in internals and equally well in externals.
Night Life
hostel facility is not provided by the college and the college gates are closed off for students at 6 PM. nescafe and canteen facilities are available until 5 PM. the locality is very safe for girls who leave late in the evening. hangout places in the college is the Arts Quad, the ground, nescafe and the sacred garden. hangout places outside are diggin and BBR cafe, and a chhole kulche stall.
