Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is pretty huge in the initial few years, but coming to the final years, its the subjects we would live the rest of our life with in corporate or in business. Many subjects in the first few years we have studied, but never have applied in real life. For core branches, they dont make much sense, just a little bit of off-track subjects. But that being said, the remaining syllabus is still outdated, as the university doesnt update it. The age old syllabus, doesnt allow us to explore the new trends, making students not prepare for the exams. We study for these exams just the day before the exam as they are mostly irrelevant. It is good for veryy basic level, like in school, but not for everyone. In one sem, their are 4 internal exams, and one semester final exam for theory subjects. Out of the 4 internal exam, we have 2 presentations, 1 pen and paper, and 1 MCQ based exam. Final exam is always pen and paper, of 70 marks. For practical subjects, we have two internals, and one final practical exam with file submission stuffs. Everywhere attendance counts, but with proper reason and proxy, you might be exempted from the attendance criteria.

Placement Experience

4

The placement scenario at our college is more or less ok-ok. With the companies looking for more experience, and service based hiring reducing, many students remain unplaced, and the numbers has kept on increasing since 2023. TCS, CTS reduced their number of hirings but still are the mass hirers here. Not many big companies come during campus hirings. All company look for individuals with some good experience in the past like in some internships, but college doesnt allow it, unless you are moonlighting. For the 2025 passouts, still around half of the students are unplaced. I am lucky enough to be placed by my 7th sem, leaving me ample amount of time to enjoy my final days of college, and be a little relaxed, as being unplaced in the 8th sem with majority companies already come and go, it becomes stressful and anxiety also drives in with parental pressure.

Fees and Financial Aid

Back when I joined NSEC, the college fees was roughly 4.9L for B.Tech course of regular students from all streams. First sem is 79K, 2nd sem to 4th sem is 65K, and 5th to last is 56,500 (apologies for wrong calc if any). After applying, the students can apply to several scholarships like Kanyashree and SVCM, also opt for West Bengal Students Credit Card for loan which is reinbursed from the 3rd semester in most cases. After we got admitted, the students getting admitted in the year 2022 had course fee 1 lakhs more than ours. Even for lateral student their was a hike in prices. In year 2023, it rised upto 6.5L and for 2024, its 7.3 Lakhs as the entire course fees. With time, the fees is just increasing along with the course in-take capacity, but syllabus remains the same, as the university isnt adapting itself

Campus Life

4

The life at campus without teachers is always fun, specially teachers of your own department. Earlier we used to have different cultural fests department wise, but now since college has problem in alotting the funds to fest (no reason why), we just have 1-2 grand cultural fest combining all departments, Mesmerizer. Rest small events do take place inviting people from other colleges, in dance, singing, sports, etc. Several clubs run by students are GDG On Campus, Phoenix, GNS, Sourcity, Lensified. Their is a IIC-NSEC chapter also, run by the department teachers. The library is rich neough, but after 1st year or maybe 2nd year, students dont often use much of the library books, unless they are very much into research. The amenities in the clssroom are good now, but is because college improved its infrastructure for NBA and NAAC visits. Hardly ever college invested much for us, but when it came to renewing the accreditations, they rennovated the college, investing all our fees into it.

Admission

I had a senior in my locality, 2019 passout, following whom I joined NSEC. I still admire and thank him for guiding me while joining NSEC. While admission I didint face any kind of interview. I had got a rank in WBJEE, and during the first counselling round, I selected NSEC, got NSEC, and finalized it by paying the first semester fees. I wasnt rejected by any college, as I went ahead with my first option. The counselling round at college isnt anything special, just a question whether or not we would be able to bear the college fees, as all comes down to money. WBJEE is just a shortlisting criteria here, in most colleges in WB

Faculty

The initial years in the college are always good. But with time, when we get into our core branch, we get new teachers, and knowing them it all feels bad. Faculty become less supportive, not welcoming new mindsets of individuals, putting in comments without understanding the condition of the students and what not. Maybe this is the case only with my department. But apart from the department, everything is fun, the sports area activities, club activites, events, the staffs, all teachers of other departments, people, and undiscovered secrets around college. The teaching method cant be blamed as the university isnt updating its 10 years old syllabus. It is outdated. Teachers only stick to that, so they are outdated too. The latest trends and practices arent dont in the curriculum as per the university. Usually our university does fail any student, unless he doesnt appear for the exam or any classes. For every subjects, university gives chance to review and give supple exam to pass, and it goes on untill the student doesnt clear the subject, but they dont get year lags, as our university doesnt allow it.

Night Life

4

The favourite adda spot for me is the sports area, as its always in motion. Sometihng or the other spicy stuff happen here. 2nd best adda spot are the shops in front of our college. We, with our friends go and have a gala time at the shop. Recently college also got its own cafeteria and gym, which is for the students, and was made just because of these NBA/NAAC visits. Few hostel have strict timings of 11 PM when the gate closes, but majority dont have any such timings. Rather all the mess mates have a spare key of the lock. The night life around college is spooky, with the local people roaming around, and not very much safe. But being in a group helps explore these hideos places at odd timings

Placement Experience:

Well as far as mh knowledge students get to placements from 6th semester itself . Well there are placement classes from 3rd semester itself . The placement track record of the college is quite good with most year about 90% gets placed with good companies comming like Deloitte, EY GDS , JP MORGAN, Oracle , offering high amount of placement offers like around 20+ lpa . Well I am not sure about my plans maybe if the palacement is good I'll take it or will be preparing for GATE (Whose courses are also provided from college .)

Placement Experience:

The senario of placement in all of the private colleges of West Bengal are more or less the same. Majority of the students are placed in Service Based Companies like TCS, Wirpo, Infosys, HCL, Accenture, Cognizent, Capgemini, Tech Mahindra, etc. These companies offer anywhere from 3.6 to 6 lpa packages. Only a handful of Product based companies come in these private colleges and cherry pick 2-3 student per college only. This is the reality of all the private colleges, not just our college. If you want to crack a high paying job, you will have to do it off campus. The students are eligible for internships from the 6th semester itself. The college does try to provide internship to students but only a few students end up getting the internships and most students need to find internships on their own. Some companies which came in 24-25 session which offered an internship and PPO are Amazon, SAP Labs, Accenture, etc. For a detailed placement stat, go to our college's website and look for training and placement stats. The college is honest in putting these stats. The stats are mostly reliable. The highest off campus placement in 24-25 session was by Snehadeep De, who secured a SDE role in Amazon with 47 lpa CTC. This was off campus so the college had no role to play here. The highest on campus placement was by two students in the company Juspay. They were offered the SDE role for 27 lpa CTC. The average placement of all the CS branches will be around 5-6 lpa. And approximately around 60-65% of the students get placed. This is the ground reality. And its the same in all of the WB private colleges. If you want to keep a backup option in case you don't want to get a 3.6 lpa job then start preparing for GATE, CAT or Civil Services from your second year. Its always preferred to have a backup option cause you can't trust a private college for providing you jobs.

The minimum placement opportunities of our college is good . If you are in good in aptitude, Group discussions and your CV and technical skills are strong then you can easily crack a 7-10lpa job from our college. Overall our college provides decent opportunities for our placements but you need to maintain certain GPA to sit on those placements

After the 6th semester we are eligible for the internship, also we can apply for both on campus and off campus placements. In our college some companies like Geotech, Infosys, Code Clouds, Unibit solutions visit every year. Average package is in the range of 3.5-5 Lakhs per annum and highest package is nearly 6-7Lpa. But post covid time our placement record decreased a bit. Nearly about 80-85% of CSE students get placed every year. Also I am currently appearing in interview of different companies for placement.
