My review

Overall rating of our university would be good as it is a central university. Job opportunities are also colourful here. The grade of teaching varies from department to department. But our department is awesome. The only problem here is mess food. You get bored having same food everyday although they try to accommodate a versatile menu throughout the week.

Course curriculum is really good for applied geology. It covers all important as well as mundane aspects of geology and we also get to know how to apply what we have studied in theories in practical situations.

Placement history is bad. No campus selections occur here since last 5-6 years. This is the only disadvantage here. Otherwise if you make enough effort you can crack other entrances to get jobs. This is in our Earth sciences department only. I have heard that campus selections does occur for other departments in our university though.

Pongal, Ganesh Puja, Saraswati Puja, Dussehra, Holi, and various other South Indian festivals are celebrated here. There are several other comunity specific celebrations too. There are also intercollegiate sports tournaments, flash mobs, movie premiers, stand up comedy shows etc that goes on. And ofcourse the usual freshers, farewell party stuff also happens.

Fee structure is feasible. We can afford it easily. For our 2 year PG course it cost roughly around 1 lakh that is hostel and mess fees included. There are examination fees, course registration fees etc too which are included in above estimation.

There are several scholarships available for economically backward students as well as students belonging to reserved categories. Merit based scholarships are also available for each semester. For economically backward students, they ask for income tax certificate of parents. I have heard of loan facilities being available to poor students too.

In our geology department, we go for a 15 days field tour with 2 of our professors each year. We have roamed most part of South India during this time. Besides this all sorts of extracurricular activities are carried out starting from sports to dance, music, art, women education, awareness programmes. In whole India, the Earth sciences department of our university has the most advanced instruments and facilities in our labs. We also have a magnetic observatory inside our campus, which we got the opportunity to visit last week.

We have opted for hostel facilities. Students from as far as North Eastern states also come here to study in Pondicherry. Good infrastructure and facilities are available here. Mess food could be improved though.

Alumni from our university are very helpful and supportive to their juniors. We continue to remain in contact with them through WhatsApp groups. Wherever they are, whatever they are doing they are always eager to share their experiences with us.

By appearing in its entrance exam and qualifying with flying colours. I mean i didn't expect my result to be this good. Admission process is really simple and tedious. We have our own Indian Bank branch inside our university to easy do all the money transactions.

Faculties in our department are really awesome. They are really patient with students, their efforts are also kind of continuous. Some professors are there who doesn't give that much effort, but this is common in every college and university.
