What Students Say
Likes
- The college campus is huge. The campus is even green and eco-friendly. The college consists of several parks, lakes and cafeterias for the students to spend time after classes. Here all the professors are from an IIT or a NIT.
- KIIT is the best college for sports in India. KIIT consists of a football stadium, cricket stadium, rugby stadium and a hockey stadium. It also has 17 swimming pools present in the campus. If possible it can host the Olympics.
- Their are around 40 societies in the college. This provides a good platform for a student to display his/her skills. The societies are dedicated for the development of the student in various aspects.
Dislikes
- As being a private college, this college is a bit expensive than the other colleges. Financially the investment is more here.
- As the number of students is more, there is a somewhat high competition to join the societies. For this the societies keep 2-3 stages of selection before recruitin.
- Sports at KIIT is tough. Here sports is more of a professional matter. To get selected to play for KIIT you have to be the be very good at sports. Students who get selected by KIIT are given professional training, which is time consuming.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is relevant from the second year. In first year few subjects are relevant which will be useful in the future. Semiconductor industry is developing in India and provies a huge scope for electronics engineers. These indrusties will offer many jobs for EC engineers.
Internships Opportunities
The college provies internships to it's students from the second year onwards. There is a complete cell run by the college which takes care of the oppurtinities provided to the student. The college also provides training for the internships.
Placement Experience
The placements at our college is decent. Placements depends from branch to branch. For example electrical and mechanical branches had 100% placements this year. In electronics branch the average placement was about 5LPA. For CSE and allied branches, the placements were not that good. The number of students offered high package were low. Overall, highest bagged package was 63LPA and the average package was 5LPA.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees for engineering depends on the branch you have chosen. As I have chosen electronics branch it is somewhat less then that of CSE branch, Yearly tuition fees:- Rs 320000 Yearly hostel fees:- Rs 56000 (for non AC rooms) Yearly mess food:- Rs 50000 so my total fees for a year is Rs 426000 For CSE brach the tuition fees is Rs 380000 The fees for the complete course including accomodation, tuition for four years is around Rs 17 lakhs. The fees increases each year. If you get a under 1000 rank in KIITEEE you get a Rs30000 per semester scholarship. For management quota students the fees is higher than that of other students.
Campus Life
KIIT Fest is conducted every year in the month of February.Books and equipments are provied for every year by the college. There is 7 storeyed central library which has all the books and journals. Each class is centrally air conditioned and has a smart board. There are numerous parks, lakes and cafeterias in the campus. For sports there is cricket stadium, athletics cum football stadium, hockey stadium and a rugby stadium.
Hostel Facilities
There are different types of hostel rooms. Premium rooms are the rooms which have an inbuilt washroom. While normal rooms have a common washroom. For non AC non premium room the fees is Rs 56000 per semester. If you want you can even choose an AC room. The mess food is good, and the mess menu is just like that in home. There are a number of PGs and flats for students to rent in Patia, Bhubaneshwar.
Admission
This college is near my home. KIIT also provides a laptop. The cost of the laptop is included in the seat booking fees. Even if the tuition fees is high, accomodation fees is relatively less than other colleges. In mess fees, rates of non-veg and veg menu is same. This rule is unlike many colleges which charge higher for non-veg food. I also applied for VIT and SRM. You can take admission in KIIT through KIITEEE, JEE main and management quota. For CSE branch the cutoffs are high. For ECE branch an under 15000rank will work.Students who get an under1000 rank in KIITEEE get a scholarship.KIITEEE is conducted in two phases.A score of 85+ percentile in JEE main will work.
Faculty
The faculty members in KIIT are heavily qualified. Most of the professors are from an IIT or a NIT. The faculty-to-student ratio is around 1:70. Keeping a good or a decent relationship with the faculties is reccomended. The academic curricullum for Btech includes 8 semesters, Each semester has a mid-sem examination for half course before semester examinations. Each semester is of 3 months. The semester exam is of 50 marks. The other 50 marks are of internals. These internal marks are the sum of mid-sem marks, quizes and assignments. The level of of the exams is between moderate and difficult.Students do fail, but they need to give an improvement examination to clear it. Basically you have to work hard and put effort here to achieve a good placement.
Night Life
For first years, hostel in time is 7pm. The in time increases with every year. If you have taken gym or sports you can stay out for more time.Students can unwind at the parks and cafeterias in the campus. Famous hangout places outside the campus include Shikharchandi hill, Nandankanan Sanctuary etc.
