- The faculty at the department of chemistry are great and have a lot of experience and achievements in their fields of research
- Efforts are made by the department to increase a student's exposure to the various routes that can be pursued after
- The campus is relatively safe and there are many opportunities for a student to participate in sports, cultural activities, etc.
Dislikes
- The schedule is quite hectic and a students entire time and mind power would have to be dedicated to only the curriculum and not other competitive exams
- Transportation is not as efficient as it could have been with the facilities available
- The lack of basic amenities like clean toilets and others
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is currently being adjusted to match with the real world. However these changes could have been introduced sooner. The opportunities in this field is limited and direct placements are not available.
Fees and Financial Aid
Admission fees = ?16,000 Readmission fees (for the 2nd year) = ?7050 Fee waiver for the financially weaker students - full refund on the admission fees Exam form fill up fees per semester = ?1800-2000 (depends on the semester)
Campus Life
The Department Library is very helpful for the course and many copies of the books relevant to the curriculum are available for the students to borrow. The classrooms are out of date and barely running with faulty lights and fans. There is room for improvement in that ascept. Many festivals and programs are held from time to time.
Admission
The other colleges that I got confirmed admission from were Dibrugarh University and Rajiv Gandhi University. The reason for choosing Guahati University was due to the faculties, better design of the curriculum and more networking opportunities.
Faculty
The course duration is 2 years and consists of 4 semesters. Exams are conducted at the end of each month and also mid-semester. The faculty to student ratio is about 1/5 and they are quite approachable and willing to help a student learn/understand. While the course is not easy, very few students actually fail. The marking system seems okay and entirely dependent on a student's performance in the mid semester and final exams.
Night Life
There are limited destinations/spots. In the campus there is single gym which is mostly cramped. There are many cafeterias and playgrounds inside the campus. There is a park and areas for walking/running. Campus gates close at around 10 p.m, student ID verification is required after the regular class timings. The campus is safe on the inside but the locality is not at all safe for anyone.
