Course Curriculum Overview

4

the fact that i always wanted to pursue mechanical engineering forced me to chose the same branch in iit kharagpur. In iit kgp the curriculum offers one to understand each branch subjects in detail through their respective labs .Main things are the labs which help us understand every subject not only in theory but also in practical .The labs here are equipped with quality equipments and machines. The exams here are quite interesting like our electrical prof will just give you 3 questions to solve in 3 hrs,but the standard of paper is set so high that one faails to solve only 3 questions in the given time ,the difficulty level is also more or less approachable for a student who has cracked jee advanced examination but the fact is being in one of the most prestigious institutes of indiia ,a student should understand its reputation .

Internships Opportunities

4

we dont get a lot of internship opportunities in the first semester but it starts around the 3rd semester from 2nd year onwards as any internship requires skills which is kinda difficult to gain in the very first year ,so i dont know a lot things about internship opporunities as i am in my first year

Placement Experience

4

After 4th semeseter one becomes eligible for internship and after the 6th semester for placements ,for mechanical engineering there are a lot of companies such as tata steel ,ongc,l&t,drdo ,maruti suzuki etc highest package last year was around 2.4 cr international and 1.18 cr domestic, for mechanical number of students placed was almost 76% I wish to study further in colleges abroad

Fees and Financial Aid

te tuition fee for general category students whose parents income is greater than 5 lakh p.a is 1 lakh per semester and whose income is less than 5 lakh is 33333 per semester whereas for sc/st/pwd students and students whose parents income is less than 1 lakh is nil.The caution money ,registration and other fees except the hostel and mess fees is total around 25k whereas the hostel and mess fee is around 25k per semester which contributes to a total of 150000 rupees for general category students . there are a various of scholarship which many organisation offers to the student of iit , in which students can register and after meeting the required criteria ,they can get the scholarship amount

Campus Life

5

there are three different fests which happen in the month of january -shaurya sports fest, spring fest -asia's largest social and cultural fest and kshitiz the tech fest. IIT KGP's central library is the largest library of asia due to which it has a very large number of books available and all these books are arranged in a very orderly manner which makes its accesibility simple. all classrooms have a projector and a screen which the profs use in explaining the concepts minutely iit kgp offers a large number of sports facility for each and every indoor and outdoor sports out there to make its student free from their academic stress. there are many socieities run by students in each and every field ,like drama ,cultural, consulting, business,NGOs,tech, robotic, etc

Hostel Facilities

4

for first year students we get a triple sharing room the size of room is quite good to accomodate three people , all the first year stay in one hall that is the lal bahadur shastri hall of residence .the washrooms are quite hygienic and the workers come almost daily to clean it .the food qualitypf the mess is quite good here including variety of meals throughout the week, but sometimes they degrade the quality of food in order to balance the mess budget which is a concerning thing. some people might find it difficult to adapt to the food of west bengal.

Admission

to get into any iit , a student requires to pass the jee advanced examination with a good score , after clearing the jee advanced examinations , i applied for mechanical engineering in top iits such as iit delhi, bombay, roorkee, kharagpur, guwahati .i needed a better rank to get iit bombay mechanical ,my rank was somewhat less as expected maybe because of the things which went wrong inside the examination hall but at last i was not disappointed as i got into my favourite iit ,and the fact that it was also close to my home made me chose it more desperately.

Faculty

3

the faculty to student ratio is around 1:14 ,the faculties here are quite good who maintains a decent relation between them and students ,being a highly qualified person there teaching and evaluation style are exceptional but still there are some cons in some of the faculty members ,like the head of electrical department Mr. chandan chakraborty is quite good who knows how to make a student learn new concepts whereas the professor who teaches us physics does not really care whether the students are able to understand or not . class tests occur around every week whereas the semester examinations happen around 2 months affter the start of each semester.there maybe around 5 percent of students who get a back in one or two subjects but in first year there is no such concept of repeating the year . the subjects including the labs are more or less relevant for me being a mechanical student

Night Life

5

the night life is very fascinating here like the canteens remain open at about 4 till the morning ,there are no restrictions to roam around the campus at any time ,but the main gate remains closed from 11 pm to 4 am .there are many hangout spots in which you can go with your group and enjoy the quality time like the helipad where you can see sunrise the lawn in front of the main building ,nehru museum etc there are gyms in each and every hostel which is free and the main gym is there in gymkhana which is paid but the fee is very less like 1000 for two semester

ELIGIBILITY FOR CAMPUS PLACEMENT: At Brainware University students generally become eligible for campus placement from the final years of their course. For many programs placemnet preparation sactivities such as aptitude training, soft skills development, resume building, mock interviews begin earlier, you can say that these activities are incoporated from the 1st semester itself. COMAPINES VISIT: Several reowned and reputed compaines from IT, management, healthcare, media, and core sectors visits the university for campus recruitment. Placement drive include companines from domains such as software services, consulting, education, sales digital marketing etc. For my domain CSE AIML companies like Infosys,Amazon,Cognizant,Adobe etc visits. Each year multiple students receive job offers through campus drives and some students also secure multiple offers depending on their skills and performance. HIGHEST AND AVERAGE PACKAGE OFFERED: The highest package offered varies by course and recruiter and also with top performing students receive highest packages based on their role requirements and skills.
