What Students Say
Likes
- The location. The college is situated at a decent and less crowded area. A safe footpath directly leads to it.
- The cafeteria. All sorts of lunches are provided. Junk food, evening meals, occasion meals, etc. And all of them are at affordable cost too, far cheaper than a restaurant's.
- Ragging is highly prohibited here and seriously taken. The HOD of the CSE department is well known for taking brutal actions against any bully.
Dislikes
- There is no 'Singular' class. Different subjects are taught in different rooms.
- There is no decent-sized playing field around.
- Joint section classes can sometimes be overcrowded since 100 students are approx in per section.
Course Curriculum Overview
-> CSE is the main stream because under this, other courses like Cybersecurity can be learned as extra courses, while still learning things that are very important like DSA and DAA. -> Everything is taught slightly fast and students have to keep up everyday. Even one class missed will be heavy on studying. -> The mic quality in some classes are bad and should be improved. It's impossible to understand what the teachers says when using them. -> Usually term exams start one month after the start of a semester, with the Semester exam being held 3 months later.
Fees and Financial Aid
-> Per semester fees is Rs. 95000 for the CSE stream. -> NPTEL course adds Rs. 1000 per semester because it is compulsory. -> Students can do B.Tech Honours after achieving 20 credit points with NPTEL courses. -> Scholarships require mandatory 75% attendance per semester.
Campus Life
-> There are a lot of events that happen almost every month at the campus. It's so much, it becomes easy to forget them. They even do events like anime fests and Comic Con through 3rd party invitations. -> Many sorts of books are available in the library. Both advanced and ones needed for the semester. -> Each classroom is fitted with a projector and screen plus a marker whiteboard. -> Sports aren't that much present, since there's not much field at all. Extracurricular activities like tennis, carrom, cricket, etc. are provided in the basement. -> There are many types of clubs, like for gaming, sports, quizzes, etc.
Admission
-> I didn't applied for other colleges. This one became my only choice because I used both my WBJEE and JEE ranks to get the criteria passed. -> 3 types of elegibility exams are implemented. JEE, WBJEE and UEM's own entrance exams. -> The overall admission experience is a little awkward, since for admission, the students will have to do it from the Salt Lake's UEM first, before joining in the New Town one.
Faculty
-> Faculty is good. Most professors are quite approachable, especially the HOD. -> Some faculties are well-versed with the subject, but not proficient enough to teach, especially of Mathematics and Physics. They're good for doubt clearing. -> Usually per semester, 3 exams are taken place. 2 of the are Term I and II exams and the last one is the Semester exams. The practical test is usually taken alongside the Theory in case of both Terms.
Night Life
-> Students mostly unwind after a day of classes by going to the nearby places like the Downtown Mall, Karigari Bhavan, etc. -> Inside the university, the preferred places are the backside of the buildings, which have a small field for hangout. -> The locality is quite safe to roam around at night, as lights light up the footpath brilliantly.
