Course Curriculum Overview

4

We have common engineering subjects in first year and then specialised subjects from our respective domain from 2nd year onwards. The curriculum is pretty well designed, we also get one semester as research/internship semester to provide real world experience. The teaching method is nice, just a less pen paper based approach in coding would be better. They have very good libraries and CS Labs along with super computer lab for research and development.

Internships Opportunities

5

The thapar has very strong placements cell. Their are various internsip opportunities available if you work hard. The various tech and non tech roles are offered by well known mncs like tata, google, Microsoft, kpmg, nvidia and all. You can get in tech consulting or development role as per your choice and interst.

Placement Experience

4

Placemmets are good. The avg package of computer science is around 16 17 lakh. The max package is around 1cr. They have certain programs from 1st year onwards to make us more employable and placemnet ready. My plans after getting a degree are not yet finalised but i wanna work as Software developer in a good well known mnc. I wanna work hard on my skills and develop a decent knowledge base.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee per semester is 229500, development fee is 57000, and other charges sum upto 11000. Which is static and will remain same throughout the course i.e 8 semesters. We also need to pay rs 30,000 as admission fee one time. The hostel and mess charges are not included in this and depends on year and type of room you opt for. The campus is big, clean and has enough facilities to somewhat justify the amount. Also you can get many scholarships (merit based and merit cum need based). The scholarship is based on your 12 percentage and jee mains score for 2nd sem and on your CGPA for other semesters. No scholarship for 1st sem. You need to get good grades to get scholarship.

Campus Life

5

Campus life is awsome. I am part of MLSC and it has been a great experience. The classrooms are well equipped with smart boards and ACs. There is a great cs block with every kind of computer you need and they also have super computer for research purposes. The campus has great hangout spots with great cafes and great parks. The library has everybook you will need. The biggest annual tech festival happens in month of november and is something i am looking up to. There are also various programs in 1st month for freshers to blend in and make new peers

Hostel Facilities

5

The hostels are decent. The 1st year hostels are livable but the hostels from 2nd year onwards are great. The M hostel is just WOW. The food is handeled by sudexo or by thapar internal committee. The food quality and quantity is great The hostels are even better if you are a girl. We have hostel night once every semester to enjoy with our room mates and with friends.

Admission

I had to select between vit cse, thapar coe and bits pilani msc. I didnt chose bits as i was sceptical about the program duration and fee. And my parents felt that vit is overly strict and has bad hostel and food. The TIET provides good living conditions, a good brand name along with great placement opportunities. My friends and seniors helped me a lot in finalizing thapar.

Faculty

4

There are about 150 - 160 students in one lecture class which has 1 teaching faculty. In tutorial or lab classes we have group of around 40 students. So you get 1 teacher per 40 students to ask doubts. We have 2 exams each sem : MST and EST, and 2 sessional test/lab eval. The exam comes from taught materials only and is pretty easy as compared to JEE. Most teachers are good but you might get some teachers who are not as experienced as others.

Placement Experience:

As a BE Computer Science student at Chandigarh University, placements are decent but depend a lot on individual skills. Students become eligible for campus placements from the 6th semester, and most of the placement process happens in the 7th and 8th semesters. Many companies visit the campus every year like Microsoft, Amazon, Cognizant, Capgemini, TCS, Infosys, Wipro and some startups as well. There are a good number of offers made, especially from mass recruiters like TCS, Infosys and Cognizant. The highest package claimed by the university goes very high, even above 40 LPA, but those are for a very small number of students. Realistically, the average package for CSE students is around 5 to 7 LPA. Mass recruiters usually offer packages between 3 to 5 LPA. Around 70 to 80 percent of students get placed if they are consistent with coding and preparation. Those who depend only on college studies may find it harder due to high competition. The university also provides training for aptitude, coding tests and interviews which helps in preparation. After completing my degree, my plan is to get placed in a good product based company. At the same time, I am also focusing on improving my coding skills and working on projects so that I can aim for better opportunities or even higher studies if needed.

Placement Experience:

I exactly don't know but after 4 th or 5 th students are eligible for internship and placements. Generally in 7th semester 90 percent students grab their internship. Many companies visit on campus placement like Capgemini, Amazon, Infosys, TCS, Microsoft and many more. Highest package offered is 64 LPA by Microsoft and lowest was 4 LPA. Almost 90 percent students get placed by 8th semister. I also want to go to a MAANG company after getting my degree.

Course Curriculum Overview:

1) I want to go in construction industry so i chose this field. 2) Currently our college curriculum is updated so its relevant i will say around 70 to 80% . 3) For improvement Faculties should be brought from all over india as professors here are only concentrated from ludhiana itself. and labs are very old it should be upgraded. 5) In a semester there are 2 monthly exams and one end semester exam. 6) As far as difficuly level of exam is concerned it is not much difficult if someone solved PYQ thoroughly.
