Likes

The faculty at this institute are highly qualified and dedicated to sharing their knowledge for the benefit of the students.
Campus life as well as the social interaction is quite good.
Infrastructure is the best including the library, housed in a centrally air-conditioned, architecturally appealing building, operates 24/7, 365 days a year.

Dislikes

The only thing I don’t like is the increasing fees.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course curriculum is regularly updated, offering students the opportunity to work on live and client-based projects under the guidance of experienced faculty members. It also provides makeup quiz and exams for the students who were unable to take the exams at the desired time due to some uncertain circumstances.

Internships Opportunities

Many students have reported valuable internships with companies like JP Morgan Chase and Co., Expedia, Optum, American Express, Goldmann Sachs, etc. These internships offer rela-world projects that help students apply their academic knowledge and skills and gain practical experience.

Placement Experience

During the Thapar University 2023 placement season, 83% of the undergraduate students secured job offers. The highest salary package offered was INR 55.75 LPA, while the average package stood at 11.90 LPA. Top recruiters included Zomato, Deloitte, IBM, JP Morgan Chase and Co., Samsung, Infosys, Larsen & Toubro, Maruti Suzuki, Microsoft.

Fees and Financial Aid

Registration fees is paid only once during the registration and it's just 23000. Currently I'm paying 570000 per year as semester fees which includes tution fees, academic fees, development fees, lab fees and other compulsory charges. There are many scholarships or financial aid that are available for students like scholarships based on the Percentage scored in Board Exams as well as JEE Mains score. Moreover merit cum means scholarship is also provided to the students.

Campus Life

Various societies and clubs at the university organize events that allow students to socialise. Thapar University's flagship events, such as Saturnalia and Food Festival, stand out as the most remarkable. Sports and extracurricular activities are offered on campus. Moreover, Sports Event named URJA is organised every year where students form different universities participate.

Hostel Facilities

The institute offers 13 hostels- 8 for boys and 5 for girls- equipped with essential amenities such as water collers, gym, TV room, AC reading room, Table Tennis room, night canteen, RO drinking water, geysers in all bathrooms, indoor gaming facilities, lawns and Wi-Fi access.

Hostel Fee: INR 106000 per year

Admission

I chose Computer Engineering program at Thapar University due to its global recognition and alignment with my interests. Additionally, the placement opportunities of this university are among the best. University location was also a prime concern for me and Thapar University is quite close to my hometown adding to my interests in choosing it.

The faculty at this institute are highly qualified and dedicated to sharing their knowledge for the benefit of the students. While semester exams are moderately challenging, they effectively prepare students for future professional endeavours. The course curriculum is regularly updated, offering students the opportunity to work on live and client-based projects under the guidance of experienced faculty members.

supportive campus environment with the comfortable in the classess

A Vibrant Campus with good learning and great opportunities

Likes

good infrastructure , large libraries and practical labs
helpful and large opportunities in campus

class size can be large , it helps every child to interact
academic work is quite high , the schedule may feel hectic especially during examination

The curriculum is relevant and covers core cse subjects like programing DSA and DBMS . it provides good fundamental for placements and further studies , more practical projects and industry based teaching would improve it .

Less opportunities for core branches as less core companies visit campus
75 percent attendance policy for classes
Very high fees compared to other colleges

Placement Experience:

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

There are 1 AC Lecture complex()LT with almost a seating capacity of 100-120 students, with smart screens and projector.
NITJ has well maintained 4 Girls hostel and 4-5 boys hostels with proper cleanliness and hostel staff.
They are 7 cafeterias in the Campus, including 3 Nescafe outlets,1 dominos and 3 regular canteens that serve food late night.

Dislikes

Wifi and connection issues in the hostels
Slow response to emails and late approval to applications
The ICE department faculty is quite strict. Tough grading system and administration.

Placement Experience:

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

I like the most about the college the placement criteria and the way built your confidence
Also the hostel is very good and provide food 4 times
The campus explorer is also very nice according to me

Faculty is not soo well had a lit bit inconvenience
Hostel mess food is not good at some time

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Likes

The campus is very green and clean. Infrastructure is good and one can feel fresh air here in campus
The faculty is excellent, almost all of the professors and assistant professors have a degree from renowned institutes. So they know their subject and field very well.
Hostels are good and affordable. Although the hostels itself are old, services are good and you get a nice room for the price/rent

Dislikes

The crowd isn't good. Always demotivated to do anything productive regarding studies. Some people are just here for time-pass
Very less site and outdoor visits. For practical experience, they should conduct industrial visits, but that happens rarely
Placements are really Dry and there is decline in company visits for placement.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

I applied to IGDTUW , VIT vellore and other colleges i got into both in VIT i got CS but it was too far away plus the placement percentage there is comparatively low and IGDTUW i didn't have mg prefered branch. i got selected to VIT vellore , but as i belong to punjab, and the level of VIT and TIET is the same, i preffered TIET i could even get a lower branch at NITJ (95%ile), but i did not want to compromise on my branch. admission process - you fill up an online form where you fill hostel preferances (like branch and college preferances in JoSAA) from thr options of hostels available for you (J, H, FRF and FRG for boys, I G E and PG for girls). you come here acc to time slot given to you acc to your percentile or boards percentage you are called into the main audi you get alloted a hostel there you fill up some forms, pay the mess fee, hostel fee and course fee in there go to hostel get your room keys and mess card issued then setup your room...Read More

I applied for VIT and SRM but didn't take admission due to poor quality of placements and peer group. I am from the General Outside Punjab quota.
