Remarks

This college is one of the best colleges in India, here if you have talent then you have much chances of getting a good package . The only problem here is that the fees paid is very high and is not affordable by a middle class family.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum of our college is just perfect. It contains all the topics which an engineer needs at basic level and also at advance level. We have a mid semester test and an end semester test and some sessional exams and the lab evaluations are also there in a semester. The exam papers are blended with both difficult and easy questions but though it requires great hard work to get proper grades.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placements in our college are fairly good. The average salary package offered is about 6.70 lacs per annum. The highest salary package offered goes up to 30-35 lacs per annum. Various companies like Microsoft, Zomato, IBM, Whirlpool, Infosys, etc., visit the campus for placements. The college holds a good record in placements, and the rest depends on the students. Yes our college also provides some internships, though i haven't got one,but i had listened that they provide some good amount of stipend.

College Events

4

Our college conducts an event almost every day whether it is small or big. and students actively take part in those events. The biggest event of the year is Saturnalia in which last year famous singer Benny Dayal was the special performer.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Thats the worst part of our college that the fee structure is not good. we have to pay enormous amount of money and that is not feasible. And even the tuition fees keeps on increasing by 10% every year. the total fees in the four years course amounts to nearly 14.5 lacs.(including the hostel fees). A middle class family has to suffer a lot to pay that amount of money.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes many scholarships are provided to those students who perform well in their exams. And the scholarship continues up till they maintain their CGPA above 8.5. I dont think that any loan facility is available in our college neither i had opted for it.

Campus Life

5

Facilities for all the sports are available. There is a separate ground provided for different games.Students in our college take an active part in all sports. And the labs in our college are equipped with high end technology.

Hostel Facilities

4

The infrastructure of Thapar University could be regarded as the best infrastructure a college could have. Hostels have high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity; rather the whole campus has a high-speed Wi-Fi connection.. Facilities for all the indoor games are available. We have a well maintained gym in out hostel. The rooms are much better than we expect from typical college hostels.

Alumni/Alumna

Yes,we in thapar have a strong connection with the alumni and senior students. Our college has some websites also where we can connect with out seniors and alumni at any time.Senior students are very helpful in our college they are always available for any help(if you need).

Admission

First i appeared in the JEE Mains exam. I cleared it with a fairly good rank then i filled a form for admission in Thapar university(which costs about 1500 rs). Then the counseling process started and i was allotted a seat in computer science branch(in thapar it is called as COE) in the patiala campus(Thapar has an another campus in derabassi which is not as good as the patiala campus)

Faculty

4.5

The faculty members available at Thapar University are fairly good. They are highly educated and highly experienced. They have a good hand at their subjects. They are good at interacting with students. All doubts are cleared on the spot, and they also help in any other sort of problem.

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
