What Students Say
Likes
- The classroom infrastructure is modern. The classrooms are cleaned daily and in top-condition. There are computer based teaching facility and projectors.
- It is ragging free. Seniors do not interact without necessity and is usually kind in their interactions.
- You have a library facility on most days, including digital lab with AC. There's a lot of space to study peacefully. It's very well maintained with good infrastructure and atmosphere. The library has a reference book section you can check out.
Dislikes
- Social Life- Generally, the campus doesn't have much of a college vibe. Interactions with both seniors and other course students are less, and it's basically an academic vibe. There's not much else to do.
- The leave application is extremely tedious. If you have to take a leave, you have to take approval from every teacher on the respective days, and submit it to the counsellor, three days before and submit it to the warden (if you're a hosteller.)
- The boys:girls ratio is 20:80, the majority is girls.
Course Curriculum Overview
It's research based and gives a fundamental on biology, chemistry, and physics. It's a hybrid course so you learn how to apply these subjects on each other, in regards to the cell. You have subjects like biochemistry, biophysics, cellular pathology, etc. It's equips you well enough for the future. The main thing is to focus on getting 75% so you qualify for the honors in 4 th year. Depending upon your performance, you can work on projects. The final year is mainly hands-on instead of classroom teaching.
Internships Opportunities
There's a tie up with Arizona University in the final year and if you do well, you might get recommendations. Generally as first year, there's not much exposure in internship and it's mainly focused on building the basics up for the course.
Placement Experience
From 3rd and 4th year, you can switch courses or apply for jobs. Most students get placements abroad or they go into research as it's a research based course and take their PhD's. The placement is good.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year wise fees for the academics is 1.5 lakh, split across two semesters. If you opt for hostel, the fees is 68k per year, including food and accommodation. There's no quota based fee reduction applicable in the course. Uniform costs 2k per set. No scholarships are given for financial aid.
Campus Life
There is an arts and sports club. The club is mainly run by the students and there are about 40 different categories. There arts and sports fests, usually for 3 days. The art fest is usually held in the first semester and sports fest is usually held in the second semester. Library mainly consists of reference books to study. Students make check out the text books they need but normally prefer online versions as it is more easy to handle. You may use the digital library facility to complete your assignments. Students usually carry a laptop. Classrooms have a projector and usually taken through powerpoints.
Hostel Facilities
There are two hostels. One has three people in a room, common bathroom for a floor. It's a little gross to share the bathrooms. You get a table a cupboard and chair. You have to clean our own room but they do the common bathrooms. It's a little hot so you should probably buy a table fan. The other hostel has two people in a room, but it's smaller. It has an attached bathroom. But you have to walk a long distance to the food mess from here (it's below the other hostel). The menu is pure veg, and is the main issue. If you like tasty food, take a PG. The meals are nutritious but it's bland and repetitive. It's like 2/10. You'll get bored in two weeks and then spend all your money ordering from outside. It's chapati and rice every night. The meals are rice, curd, sabji, two curries, papad, pickles, and rasam. If you're particular about food, don't choose the hostel. You have a common ground space in the first hostel and can stay down until 11. You also have a small coffee and snacks facility during 9-12, 3-6 and 9-11 which is convenient. The other hostel has no open space so you have to stay in your rooms even during leave. The worst part is the need for a Local Guardian for first year girl students in hostel. You can't leave the campus to have fun (for any year)and you can't go outside the hostel during leave (not even the campus). You have compulsory prayer for 30-40 minutes daily. My advice is stay in a PG and save yourself the trouble of everything.
Admission
Neet UG- Didn't get into goverment quota. Kristu Jyothi- Biotechnology, rejected because I heard Lab experience and course desirability was low. You can get into this course through your +2 mark percentage. There's an interview but it's mostly based on PCB marks.
Faculty
There are 80 students in a classroom. The faculty is well qualified. If you have any difficulty with grasping the concepts, they will re-explain or give you personalised explanations. Revision classes are also usually conducted for this. You can't access the staff room, but you can clarify doubts after the class. Every faculty in the main subjects are good in their teaching, but some classes are a little tedious to pay attention to. The english and value education courses are okay, but it's more of an afterthought. The labs are also good, and you get hands on experience. There are two periodicals and a main exam with Lab Practicals in one semester. There are two semesters in a year. Since the periodic tests count for the final grade, you have to maintain a constant study habit instead of depending on the final grade only. There's a bit of class assignments and surprise tests as internal assessment. Some classes use your notes are internal assessment (eg-chemistry.)
Interview Experience
There was an interview and the questions were general, asking about your interest in the course, how you found it. It's not as important as your marks. The main criteria is your PCB marks in 12th grade.
