- The course is very good giving importance to both theoretical and practical knowledge. The labs are well designed and properly maintained.
- The college offers very good placement in comparison to other colleges in Mumbai with average packages ranging from 10-12 lpa.
Dislikes
- The infrastructure of the college is very old but they are renovating it.
- The boys hostel facilities are a little bad and the rooms are very small and old. One room is shared with 4 people making it a little conjusted.
Course Curriculum Overview
The courses are very diverse covering almost every area of Electronics. The course is designed in such a way that every theory concepts have a lab coursework assigned to it for better understanding and grasping. The curriculum focuses on the industry standards and the current knowledge requirement of the industries. One thing I feel is that the courses should be updated more frequently. The exams are conducted every two months and one semester lasts for around 4 months. I personally liked the courses of Control Systems, Microprocessor and Microcontroller, Electronic Circuit Analysis and Design, Digital Signal Processing.
Internships Opportunities
There are many internship opportunities offered by the college including research internship at the CoE - CNDS lab. The mandatory internship is at the end of the third year where companies come for recruitment offering stipend around 70k per month. Companies like HDFC Bank, Schneider Electric, Emerson come for internship opportunities. We are also free to work under some professor for internship experience and we are provided with a certificate for the same. We can also opt to do our final year project in the same domain that we worked with our mentor during our internship. I did my 2 months internship at Emerson as a Distributed Control System Intern.
Placement Experience
The placement offered at VJTI are very good. Students become eligible for placement right from the third year where companies offer 2 months internship during the month of June and July. This internship experience is mandatory and carries credit points in the academics. In the fourth year companies hire students for full time opportunities. Some of the companies that visited this year are PwC, IDFC First Bank, Oracle, Fractal, Citi Bank, L&T, Texas Instruments, Nestle India, JP Morgan and Chase. The highest package offered this year was around 57 lpa and the average packages is around 12 lpa. Almost 87% students were placed this year while majority of the other students opting for higher education. My plan is to peruse masters in Control System in Europe after completing my BTech from VJTI.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year wise fees are around 86000/- for open category and there is hardly any increment in fees every year as the college is government aided. The fees for reserved students is very minimal as there are no tution fees for them. The fees for reserved students is as low as 2000/- per year. Female students also have to pay very less fees. There are different scholarship provided by the state government and alumni association based on merit. There are also different scholarship on offer for students secured admission through quota. Economically weaker section scholarship is also granted.
Campus Life
The campus is a very happening place and there are a lot of clubs that organise different events throughout the year. This help in both academic as well as social development of students.all the fest are usually held in the month of December while the sports fest is held in February. The annual Technical fest is Technovanza, the cultural fest is Pratibimb while the sports fest is Enthusia. The college has a library which houses more than 7k books related to different domains. We can issue the books based on our needs the library also has a huge study area and WiFi facility for students. Each classroom is equipped with a smart board and a blackboard with projector. The classroom are equipped with Air Conditioners. The campus has 2 separate grounds for football and cricket. There are many student run clubs like SRA (Society of Robotics and Automation) which deals with robotics, Vishva VJTI which is the astronomy club of VJTI, DLA (Debate and Literary Activities) club.
Admission
I choose VJTI because of its reputation of being one of the best College in Maharashtra for technical education. Another main reason of me choosing this college is it's excellent placement that it offers. None other colleges in Mumbai except IIT Bombay offer such high quality placements. Every year top companies like Google, Microsoft, JP Morgan, Texas Instruments, PwC, Schneider Electric visit the campus for hiring student with a very good package. I choose VJTI over other colleges owing to its challenging curriculum and the experienced teaching staff it has. During my application I just applied for BTech in Electronics at VJTI and secured my admission. The admission at VJTI are purely on the basis of the MHTCET scores, for an admission to Electronics engineering for an open candidate his or her score should be around 99.2 - 99.5 percentile. The institute also conducts spot round that take place after the centralised CAP rounds to fill up remaining seats in different courses.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is 60 is to 2. The faculty is very approachable and are always willing to help the students out by solving their difficulties. Dr. Rohin Daruwala was my favourite professor he has a vast experience in the field of Microprocessor and Microcontroller. I like his teaching style a lot he makes the subject very easy to understand and his lectures are never boring. Another professor whom I like is Prof. Faruk Kazi who teaches courses related to Machine Learning and Artificial intelligence he has a very thorough knowledge of the subject. There are 2 exams per semester Mid Semester Examination (MST) and End Semester Examination (ESE) the mid semester exams are of 40 marks while the end semester exams are of 100 marks. The exams are easy provided your concepts are clear. Sometimes the paper is a bit lengthy so you need to be fast while writing the paper. Majority students pass the exams only 5% of the students usually fail in a particular subject.
