Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I loved mechanical engineering so i chose this course the curriculum is on par with the world and well prepares the students for basic purposes as the labs and other activities provide hands on experience on latest technology. The improvement in course curriculum can be just reduct the attendance as its 75-80% compulsory attendance while teaching methods can be improved by making classes much more interactive and practical, as we learn theory and lab by different profs, now even though we are able to use the theory in lab but that same demonstration during the theory class can help in understanding better. Frequency of exams is like 1 major test every month and diffeculty level is a bit hard.

Internships Opportunities

5

In 3rd or 4th year you get to have industrial knowledge and get on campus internships in india or abroad in big MNC's etc. While in 1st year or 2nd year you can do internship in any startup of senior.

Placement Experience

5

Students become eligible for on campus placements in 4th year while internships are provided in 3rd year. Nearly all of the most prestigious companies(Airbus, Accenture Japan, Da Vinci Derivatives, EXL, Google, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Squarepoint Capital, N K Securities, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Steel, Texas Instruments, Bajaj Auto, Jaguar Land Rover etc. ) in every sector visits the college and they collectively maid over 1900+ offers. Highesy package on campus was 2.6 crpa, while some people say highest off campus was 4+crpa and on campus average package is 24lpa which can increase for branches like CS, EE, ECE, MNC. In most of the branches 90%+ students get placed, in mechanical nearly 93% students got placed and for the above branched it goes to nearly 96%+ while in BArch or some lower branches the stats are a bit less for on campus like about 80% for barch and 70% for others. My plans after getting the degree is to do a job in robotics or related mechanical field.

Fees and Financial Aid

The year-wise fees I paid for 1st sem: Rs 1,49,005 Out of which refundable fee(library, hostel and institute) was Rs. 6000, onetime fee was Rs. 5700, semester fee was Rs 1,05,750 and Hall fees is Rs. 28,855 and the insurance etc. costs Rs. 2700. For other categories: SC and ST they do not have semester fees rest has to be paid; and for EWS and NCL students fees is semester fees is 1/3rd of the total. Multiple scholaeahips are available for students: some are for specific branches, some are for toppers and rest and most of the merit cum need are for families annual income under 6lpa. Eg. Aditya Birla Scholarship Brundabana Sahu Student Award Chandralekha Singh (KGP 1988) and Jeremy Levy Student Excellence Award in honour Prof. Mandakini Majumdar Chandralekha Singh (KGP 1988) and Jeremy Levy Student Excellence Award in honour of Prof. G. P. Sastry Dr. D Nasipuri Memorial Student Award IET India Scholarship Karuturi Ramamurty Endowment Award And many more..

Campus Life

5

Campus life just by scenery, greenery and closer to nature it's 10 on 10. There are multiple clubs(50+) where students can polish their skills in any field they want.(Eg. Culinary arts, soft skills development, dance, music, public policy and governance, journalism, robotics, business, consultancy etc.). Being the largest engineering college in india it encourages each and every sport and has dedicated grounds, stadiums, equipment and coaches for the same. The library is huge over 3lakh+ physical books and 3million+ebooks available for free and technological provisions are like free cloud storage, free unlimited high speed internet etc. Just the con is in the selection groups of societies, some societies(mostly research) have prerequisite knowledge required and have selections in 2nd year while in first year like 2000 students join the campus. My eg. : i got selected into robotics society, 1000 people gave 1st round of interview, 50 got selected and then 20 got selected.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

So i live in hostel. So in 1st year you are 3 students in 1 room, while pwd students can get a single person ac room also. Each student gets 1 cupboard, 1 table, 1 chair , 1 bed and 1 fan. 6 rooms have 1 common bathroom. Every block on every floor has got its own washing machine along with paid laundry services. Rooms and bathrooms are big enough that everyone can stay comfortably without needing to adjust. While in 2nd year you are 2 roomates and 3rd year onwards you get separate room. Mtech phd students have got their own ac rooms. There is own hospital in college with free medicines even for any severe illness, and even if you get treated in any bigger hospital the bills would be refunded by the college. Mess food is decent compared to other IIT's.

Admission

I just applied to all gen 1 IIT's and i wanted to do mechanical engineering so iit kanpur and iit kgp are known for it. Apart from that for overall experience and exposure i also put IEOR of IIT Bombay during councelling but i got IIT KGP and i like it. Even though IIT KANPUR and IIT KHARAGPUR fight for 1st position in mechanical, i didnt get other colleges because of my rank. Like my rank was 3297 and i was getting mechanical in this college and IIT ROORKEE and IIT GUWAHATI. Admission process is simple those who qualift JEE Advanced with a good rank get in the college for which they need to be in top 2.5lakh students during JEE MAINS. Cutoffs vary as per the difficulty of the paper but acceptance rate is less than 0.1% from the students who give jee mains.

Faculty

4

Faculty to student ratio is about 1:21. Faculty student relationship is great and they are easily approachable after the classes. Best faculty i feel is Chandan Chakraborthy (ET Prof) as he tells a lot of stories and makes the class seem a lot interesting. In a semester there are 4 exams: 1 class test, 1 mid sem, 1 class teat, 1 end sem and many other surprise tests. The course curriculum is okay not ahead of the world but not even lacking behind. Exams here are a bit difficult as everyone here is a topper though its hard to fail as everyone studies.

Despite the low fee structure, my college provides a good placements. Almost every student of CSE Dept who sit for placement, gets the placement between 4lpa - 6lpa. Last year the highest package was ?12 lpa. ECE department has the lowest percentage of placements. And other engineering departments have between 60-70% placement. All the mentioned above is the description of in campus placement. Not many students of my college opt for out campus. But if they do, they get good placements as per the reports. In 2021 a student secured the job in Microsoft, with the placement of ?45 lpa (out campus).
