Quality Education At A Nominal Tuition Fee At This Prestigious University

The course curriculum is unfortunately a little back dated. Calcutta University hasn't made any significant changes to its linguistic syllabus. Many important fields are not taught. Like in our syllabus we haven't learnt a thing about Computational Linguistics, and Acoustic phonetics. All because of lack of professors who are expert in such fields. And also because of lack of recruitments. Overall the course is good the only major thing it lacks is computational linguistics.

Tuition fee is very nominal of 2300 rupees per year. And semester exam fee is 250 rupees (per semester) . There are 4 semesters in total. One can apply for scholarship and can get 25000 rupees each year if their aggregate percentage is 60% or beyond.

Campus is truly wonderful with the nation's best faculty for the subjects one can ask. There is an elevator too so won't be a problem for people with disability. The premises infrastructure is fantastic. Only a few downsides are for the linguistic department as they lack proper resources like a separate computer lab for teaching computational linguistics and all.

Before COVID periods Calcutta University used to conduct entrance examinations but unfortunately after the COVID , it has stopped conducting entrance tests. The whole admission process is online. One has to go to the official website of Calcutta University and has to fill up the digital form and apply for their desired course. The university will call the students to be present physically during the time of counseling. Counseling is done based on merit. Even if not selected on the first counseling, they might call for 2nd and 3rd and even a fourth counseling, if seats are available.

All professors are excellent, they are all NET- Qualified and PhD holders, even the guest lecturers are NET qualified and PhD holders. Everyone is a master in their fields. Prof. Abhijit Majumder is India's only scholar who has mastery on the grammatical structure of the dead language "Old Iranian". In this country a very few people have knowledge about Old Iranian and can actually read the text and convey its meaning. He has published numerous books and research papers in many languages, their morphological structure, and also semantics, pragmatics and phonetics and what not and is still contributing till date.
