Course Curriculum Overview
As a department Civil Engineering has a very good opportunity in the future as most of the people are running behind computers and it. So there will be a scarcity of good Civil Engineers in the future. So go for it it's a good department but not so good in our University in terms of faculty. For example Mechanical Engineering and Electronics Engineering has much better faculty than ours. Other departments also have good faculty.
Internships Opportunities
You can do internships on your own. You can do research internships as well under professors. Professors also send you to different departments for internship and different universities for research internships. There are many companies as well who offer internship for example Microsoft, Google etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees of our University is very low so I don't think any one of you need any kind of financial aid for college fees. The cost for hostel is also very low. But still if you need to earn money there are many private scholarships and you can learn a skill and do freelancing as well.
Campus Life
There is good campus life. The campus is lively and full of cultural, social and sports activities. There is club for almost everything. You can join whatever you want. There's photography club motorsports club mechatronics club etc etc. The University has it's own sports team for different sports. There is also a sports tournament every year between all the engineering departments. Sometimes there are inter department tournaments as well. But one thing to keep in mind the infrastructure is not that solid but you'll have fun for sure.
Admission
There is an exam named WBJEE it's an entrance examination for doing engineering in the colleges accross West Bengal. You need to write that exam and have a good rank to get government colleges in West Bengal. You need to have a rank of about 3k-4k atleast to secure a seat in the Civil Engineering department of Jadavpur University. Students across India can give this exam but the students in West Bengal have a state quota. There's as such nothing that I didn't liked.
Faculty
The faculty differs from department to department. In our department (Civil Engineering) not all facilities are good. Some of them are really very nice and they help you to understand the subject better and make your concepts clear. Most of them hold a PhD degree.
