Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum is updated and is quite in sync with recent trends like entrepreneurship, startups, finance, and AI(Artificial Intelligence). The core subjects are old schools to date but so as in any government college. The percentage I would like to assign for how much knowledge is applicable to the real world from the course curriculum is about 30%-40%. The exams are quite frequently held in the form of quizzes of each chapter completed and have a weightage in our cgpa. The difficulty of the exams is medium level you can easily pull an all-nighter and finish the entire curriculum for some subjects.

Internships Opportunities

4

PEC offers internships in a full range of engineering services, materials testing, and fieldwork (consultancy). The average stipend for each branch is as follows: Aerospace - 30000, Civil - 43333, Cse - 50304, Electrical - 40116, Ece - 51037, Mechanical - 21214, Metallurgy - 23333, Production - 21230.

Placement Experience

3.5

The placements of the college are quite good in my perspective. In the 6th semester students become eligible for campus placements. There were many companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Amex, ITC, Airtel,Tata Motors, Jindal Steel, IBM and many more There were around 250-275 offers by companies, (some of them were PPOs - pre-placement offers). The average package was around 12 Lpa for the 23 batch. My plans after getting the degree are to get a job or get admission to a B-school doing an MBA.

Fees and Financial Aid

Many students receive scholarships based on caste, family income, female scholarships, and if they have secured a good cgpa or good JEE rank. caste-based scholarships - if you are a student from ST/SC your whole tuition fee is pardoned for college. income-based scholarships - if you are a student from a low-income group then a percentage of your tution fee is reduced. (About 50%) considering your parent's income. If you are in the BPL(below the poverty line) category then you will receive full tuition for the hostel and academics. Academics-based scholarships- only one student the top JEE ranker will receive a full academic tuition offer which will be discontinued from the second year if he scores less than 8.5 cgpa From the second year, every top two scorers receive full tuition for that year if they score more than 9 cgpa and half tuition for more than 8.5 cgpa. For females - one girl from each branch gets full-tuition scholarships from the management.

Campus Life

4.5

There is one cultural fest called PEC Fest which occurs annually. Typically held in October and November. Other fests include- E-Summit - conducted by the Entrepreneurship and Incubation cell of pec Chandigarh which hosts many startups and VCs along with many competitions and events. Standup comedians are also invited. Apart from that many clubs are there for students to take part in the popular ones are - pec ACM, saasc, eic, robotics, IEEE, aerospace, etc.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

There are four boys hostels in PEC - Shivalik, Aravalli, Kurukshetra, Himalayas, And two girls hostel- Kalpana Chawla, Vindhyas In first year you're appointed Shivalik - B and C blocks in which C-block has best rooms but B-block has best washrooms and gardens. The rooms are small in B-blocks too. Basic facilities like two tables and a chair is provided. The mess facilities are however quite dependent on the student body if you put pressure on them they provide good food but if not they will become lazy and don't make good food. The registration process of hostel is very easy u just need to sign and attach your passport-size photo to a form provided in the hostel.

Admission

Admission was through Jossa and csab councelling and the cutoff was about 94%ile in JEE mains. After that you have to register on campus for enrollment into college. Application forms will be available in the College website www.pec.ac.in Reservation are available for SC/ST and Gen EWS and Female quota, also if you have completed your 12 th from Chandigarh or tricity (Panchkula , Mohali ...) you are available for Homestate quota.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty-to-student ratio is 14:1, it is quite good compared to other colleges. Smart boards and PPTs are often used for studying and about 60-70% of teachers are approachable. Mentoring is done by teachers as every 4 students receive a teacher to talk about their mental health issues and personal problems. We can contact our teachers very easily via mobile phones as we are added to WhatsApp groups of each subject(disciplines).

Placement Experience:

Since the first batch of VLSI is yet to be placed I would take example of ECE for reference. Out of 110 students which sat for placements , 91 got placed , median of 13 lakh with avergae of 16 lakh and 61 lakh highest on campus. These are of 24-25 and this year placements are better as even apple visited us after an hiatus of 3 years. In core electronics , Samsung Rnd , TATA electronics , Cadence , Micron etc visited for tech , UKG , PhonePay , Oracle , Accenture etc vist in consulting and finance , Mckinsey , JP Morgan , GoldmanSachs , AmericanExpress visit. After my btech I plan to do a job.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would rate the course plan around 7 out of 10 in terms of relevance and depth. I chose this course mainly because it includes core tech subj like DSA, DBMS, OS, AI and cloud, which are useful for jobs in tech field. The presence of lab work and proj based learning also influenced my choice. The curriculum gives a fair base in theory and basic prac skills. It helps in campus place prep and also builds base for higher study like MTech or MS. But real world skill still depends a lot on self study, online course and side proj. Some topics feel updated, but a few subj are still too theory heavy and not linked to real case use. Exams are held twice as mid test and once as end term in each sem. There are also quiz, viva and lab eval. The level is moderate. If you attend class and revise notes, it is manageable. For improve, more live proj, hack event, ind visit and case study should be added. Teach method should shift more to code demo and less slide read
