What Students Say
Likes
- First of all the infrastructure at VIT tends to be of next level, which provides us with almost covers all the necessities for the students in terms of academics and sports. It has separate blocks for different academic courses and plenty of labs
- The campus is huge covering acres of lush green and clean areas which helps us feel relaxed. The campus provides with plenty of gyms , swimming pools, number of sports ground, indoor stadiums, (basketball, tennis, volleyball) courts etc...
- The campus is very safe with securities around almost everywhere at such a huge campus. They have done a good job with the shuttle buses, so that we can travel throughout the campus at just 15 rupees.
Dislikes
- The so known "Red Tag Annas" who are part of the security team might become a headache for students especially when girls and boys interact with each others. They tend to be too strict and acts weird when boys and girls stand together stating "PDA"
- The curfew timings is very hectic for students especially for female students who have a difficult time coming outside. It kind of destroys the freedom to students to get exposure from the outside world , I believe that it is a part of learning.
- The facilities outside the college isn't as good as inside since it lacks in activities that we can engage while we are outside. If this is also the made better then the college would best in class for students from outside India too.
Course Curriculum Overview
The circullum provides us with the latest curriculum which helps us in identifying problems and finding the best solutions. The academics might turn out to be hectic with theory classes and lab along with projects for each one of them. If you are consistent then it will help you a lot in unfloding future endeavours.Their curiculum blends in engineering and designing to make more practical and aesthetic designs. We are well versed with the basic engineering theories and terms which helps us to work and industrial designer with the engineers to make meaningful products.students are made well versed in programing to enhance problem solving skills. They also give a lot importance to creative arts to enhance aestheic designs. They also conducts fairs to promote students to showcase their talents in front of the entire campus which in turn makes them feel more motivated. The clubs activities also has a major part in structuring the curiculum to make students industry ready.
Internships Opportunities
You will get internships from college with an average stipend. I even got an internship oppurtunity straight after i did my first year, in fact you have to do the internship by 3rd only. So internship oppurtunity is far better if you get 8 gp or above. Othervise you can intenrship on your own and the VIT tag is gonna help well too. For industrial design you will get internship on grpahical design to industrial design which includes furniture , automobile etc..
Placement Experience
Since VIT is known for their campus placements , there is no shortage in placements as of now. This year almost all the students who sat for placemennts who had 8 or above CGPA did well with their placements. The topper is also known to get a placemnt of 50 lpa, but he average remains to be 7lpa. Moreover if you have a good cgpa you will get a good internship by third year.Everything depends on the CGAPA that you maintain through your course.70% of students were placed. Iam most probably going to sit for placements if not I hope i will be trained enough to get placements on my own.TCS is known to be giving the most number of placements folllowed by some other industrial ccompanies and startups.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tution fee is 1.76l per year for regular students which might differ for NRI or foreign students. There has been no hike in fees but there has been a hike in hostel fees.I had taken 2 share bed ac room which was 1.50l for an year. It make may differ for the number of beds in room which ranges from 2 to 8 share be rooms ac and non ac are available. There are regular as well as special blocks which ay incur different fee structures. The charge shuttle throughout the campus is Rs15 and you have stores inside the campus where you can purchase materials for projects. There are scholarships which are different for different courses. If you join club which is self funded then you might have to pay for.The scholarship amout is not much when compared to the fees per year though it motivates us in studying and being the topper. You can win cash awards by participating in competitions through clubs and chapters. You can also join certain VIT funded startups to get some income and boost your portfolio
Campus Life
The campus at VIT is average but you will get a lot of exposure since you will get to deal with a lot of people from different folks of life in India as well as the world. You will also get a lot of exposure by indulging in clubs and its chapter's activities. There are several fests like Gravitas and Rivera in which Gravitas is tech fest while Rivera is a cultural fest. In Gravitas you will get to participate in a lot fun activities which inturn is knowledgebale as it is conducted by the students itself. The Rivera on the other hand is one of the best college fest in India with a lot of concerts celebs etc... The college has huge library where you can get every kind useful books. There several sports teams , dance teams etc. which are best in class. The social life is average because of the "Red tag annas" which makes it difficult to even indulge in a social conversational acitivity. Students are treated inequal by gender because of red tags in this modernworld this could be better
Hostel Facilities
There are plenty of hostels at VIT for both males and females which comes in a variety based on the number of beds. The prices differ based on the number of beds and ac or non ac. the prices ranges from 1.03l to as high as 2.29 if you opt for apartment.I WAS in 2 bed L block which was approx. 1.5l, it was comfortable and the public toilets were also surprisingly good except for the students may use it in an unclean manner.Thats were you will get in trouble while using public toilet. The number toilets as per ratio of rooms were also good in the block. It differs for different blocks since some blocks might be much better while the other ones may be too bad.The hostel selection will be based on your CGPA following the first year. So make sure you score well during your course if you are at VIT. Renting a PG outisde of VIT is a difficult task since they dont allow it and even if they do approve your parents are supposed to sign every month, weird isn't it?So this how VIT works.
Admission
There were two types of admission processes, one was through UCEED marks while there was an examinaion named VIT DAT which is conducted by VIT. You are requiured to have passed the Uceed examination and are supposed to have a cutoof rank which might be different for different years after which you are directly selcted ofr the course. The examination on the other hand will have two ssections A nd B in which on of them is descrptive and MCQ and the second part is drawing in which you might have to explain the drawing. After going through this process you are supposed to do an interview. If you pass both the examination and interview you are good to go. Note that this examination is exclusively done at VIT Vellore campus for the limited seats available after selection of candidates who did Uceed. There is no reservation for VIT DAT but there is reservation under Uceed examination. The difficulty level of VIT DAT is similar to that of Uceed but much easier compared to it in terms of mcq Qs
Faculty
The faculty to student ration seems to be pretty good at the university level considering engineering students but at Industrial design there has been a reduction in faculty members which believe will be rectified in the coming future. Still the industrial design faculty has done a great job with it but it would be better if this is rectified. The faculty here seems to be well experienced and their approach in teaching has been efficient throughout the course. They are very much approachable and helps us at any situations. We almost interact with our faculty on daily basis which helps us in clearing doubts. They even hold extra sessions of labs in case we require it. Most of the faculty members here have an enthusuasiasm whenit comes to teaching to make student better in the future.
Interview Experience
So i was supposed to prepare for two round for VIT DAT which consisted of MCQ questions, descriptive questions followed by a sketching round and then finally an interview were you are supposed to prepare a portfolio and explain about yourself. All these rounds will be done in a single day. If get around to score well then the top 20 to 30will be selected while the rest will the ones who got selected by Uceed marks where they dont have any interviews they are directly selected using Ucedd marks. For VIT DAT i would suggest to work on previous years Uceed papers and it will obviously gain you admission. Or learn the similar patterns of questions. As a person who wrote both exams I would say that VIT DAT is easier compared to Uceed but still it may be difficult if not prepared well.
