Remarks

It had a huge scope of improvement then and i am sure its progressing on a good scale since then. Being a national institute and holding a great reputation there are a lot of areas to improvise and rework on.

Entrance Preview

NIFT entrance examination scored about a rank of 500. NIFT is a national institute for Designing so its was a clear choice.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Its a great course and a very good center. Specializing in Knitwear gives you an edge over in the industry. From the very basics of Design you undergo different processes and research modules. From craft to technology you are being made proficient into almost all fields. It makes a person versatile enough to work in different streams. It makes you confident and well profound in working under extreme pressure times and achieving your targets.

Internships Opportunities

No college doesn't provide any internship. Students have to get it themselves, by approaching different companies with their self made portfolios.

Placement Experience

2

Placements during the time we passed out ie.2008 were really sad. Global market had seen the worst of recession phases and none of the companies were keen on hiring. Package standards were very low. And very few companies confirmed on jobs post placement process.

College Events

2

Every year NIFT holds spectrum as their annual cultural event. Its mix of Dance, Music, Drama , Fashion Shows etc. We used to rigorously look for sponsors two months prior to it. It was a lively event for 4days of complete fun frolic and fashion. Best times of my college behold there.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Its quite expensive now. Fee structure during our time used to be 25k for every semester plus hostel and other expenses. Fee had drastically increased just when we thankfully passed out. And its four times multiplied now. I am not sure of very detailed structure.

Fees and Financial Aid

No idea i did not avail any such facility and neither was offered by our college its a regular procedure of taking education loan.

Campus Life

2.5

Did not have much time for extra curricular activities we had a very busy schedule. Workshops were part of our curriculum our assignments were very interactive. And kept us occupied mostly student diversity were good almost students all over India were part of our institute gender ratios were also well maintained.

Hostel Facilities

0.5

Hostel facilities were not very great. And mess food was the most horrible amongst all NIFT centers that was another prime reason for loosing so much weight. And since our work pressure was so tight we didn't have much time to eat out or spend so much.

Alumni/Alumna

Not in touch with alumni network now not very helpful even when i was studying its a very restricted network. Not much efforts paid on to reconnect only some groups available on Facebook which are close to inactive.

Exam Structure

It was extremely hectic. I lost about 10kg of weight in a span of 1 semester/6months. We had frequent submissions, assignments and projects which kept us very occupied mostly. Place of resources were very limited that time. Internet was available only cafe's with hourly charges. We did not have laptops then. Labs were available but with limited sources and machines.

Admission

There were two levels of entrance tests. First one being a mix of Analytical ability with creative/sketching skills. After clearing this, there was a situation test where in we were supposed to create a 3D model using plastic sheets threads and straws in a given time frame using our imagination and visualization skills. Based on these two we got our rank and were called in for counseling sessions to select among-st different course options & centers.

Faculty

3

We had a mix of faculties. Some we very adherent to academics while others were more keen on field works and spontaneous projects. So i would like to rate faculty standards about average, as we had some new joiners who took a while in understanding the curriculum and making upto it.

Placement Experience:

Thr placements for bdes is not as good as btech ofcourse, which is why a lot of them prefer to apply for it individually as I said, but a good training is given for sitting on placements on our 3rd and 4th year of the course. The minimum cgpa for sitting for placements is 8.5 and as of what I know 9 lakh is the estimated package. I am planning to pursue masters after my degree and in between If I want a break I thought of gaining some work experience by working for an year so. I thought of applying for companies myself instead of sitting for the placements from university itself.

Placement Experience:

Since VIT is known for their campus placements , there is no shortage in placements as of now. This year almost all the students who sat for placemennts who had 8 or above CGPA did well with their placements. The topper is also known to get a placemnt of 50 lpa, but he average remains to be 7lpa. Moreover if you have a good cgpa you will get a good internship by third year.Everything depends on the CGAPA that you maintain through your course.70% of students were placed. Iam most probably going to sit for placements if not I hope i will be trained enough to get placements on my own.TCS is known to be giving the most number of placements folllowed by some other industrial ccompanies and startups.

My 4 years at NIFT was utterly an experience! I cant describe it probably in a word but I can say that it has built me as a person, it has thought me how to deal with different people from a worker or an artisan to at CEO or MD of an organisation, it has thought me to be confident at the same time humble. How to work under immense pressure and time constrains. All in all NIFT has acquiped me to take on this world and make my mark with the skills and practices that I learnt in these 4 years.
