Course Curriculum Overview

5

Hands on experience when it comes to certain material handling especially leather. Leather is a full on subject which expands our material knowlege and handling. Curriculum does prepare you for the real world with subjects that not only teach design but also textiles, costing and engineering. Some courses feel too structured and lack imagination and freedom. Subjects are not that difficult.

Placement Experience

3

Placements in FDDI Chennai are average. But the rising competition in this field is also an important factor to consider here. Placements here are not just design based but also with Visual merchandising, retail, production, styling, leather, home furnishing related jobs as well.

Fees and Financial Aid

Detailed fee structure (joined in 2024) FDDI fee structure for B des 1 yr - 2,51,900 2nd yr - 2,29,500 3rd yr - 2,30,200 4th yr - 2,31,000 Total - 9,42,600 Rs Overall a good college for the price. Labs are accessible and materials are also provided for most of the projects and assignments in college.

Campus Life

4

Infrastructure in FDDI is quite good! Both technical and non technical events happen here every year. Some events are conducted by students while some are conducted by the management. Plenty of workshops conducted as well. Technical events include- Hackathon in 2025, Adhesive day in 2025 and some other events are embroidery day, handloom day etc. festivals are also celebrated every yr .

Admission

I chose this college because I wanted to have freedom with what I did . I didn't want structured, stressful courses which would make me dislike this course instead i wanted to do things in my own terms as well . I had applied to nift as well but i didn't clear it. To apply in FDDI , we have to crack the entrance exam here and we can apply to campuses based on our rank .

Faculty

4

About 10-15 faculties in Total with them rotating through each semester. Mix of experienced teachers and creative teachers gives a mix of balance and freedom. It's fun and also Structured at the same time. Most teachers are friendly and helpful. However some facilities here think a little narrow for design in my opinion. Exams are easy however that does come with effort. For fashion design, there's barely one or two theory subjects per yr with the test being practicals. It's easy to clear if work is started early and done with interest. Most students here clear the exam . Course is pretty relevant to the curriculum!

Night Life

3

A lot of seating places are available in and around the campus and the campus is quite pleasant and chill. Night life of our college is not much one can expect because of its location. However, it is quite good in and around here.

Placement Experience:

Thr placements for bdes is not as good as btech ofcourse, which is why a lot of them prefer to apply for it individually as I said, but a good training is given for sitting on placements on our 3rd and 4th year of the course. The minimum cgpa for sitting for placements is 8.5 and as of what I know 9 lakh is the estimated package. I am planning to pursue masters after my degree and in between If I want a break I thought of gaining some work experience by working for an year so. I thought of applying for companies myself instead of sitting for the placements from university itself.

Placement Experience:

Since VIT is known for their campus placements , there is no shortage in placements as of now. This year almost all the students who sat for placemennts who had 8 or above CGPA did well with their placements. The topper is also known to get a placemnt of 50 lpa, but he average remains to be 7lpa. Moreover if you have a good cgpa you will get a good internship by third year.Everything depends on the CGAPA that you maintain through your course.70% of students were placed. Iam most probably going to sit for placements if not I hope i will be trained enough to get placements on my own.TCS is known to be giving the most number of placements folllowed by some other industrial ccompanies and startups.

Remarks:

My 4 years at NIFT was utterly an experience! I cant describe it probably in a word but I can say that it has built me as a person, it has thought me how to deal with different people from a worker or an artisan to at CEO or MD of an organisation, it has thought me to be confident at the same time humble. How to work under immense pressure and time constrains. All in all NIFT has acquiped me to take on this world and make my mark with the skills and practices that I learnt in these 4 years.
