NIFT Chennai is great

The curriculum is fine, recently they are trying to incorporate new things related to AI and have been trying to teach things happening in the current industries. The assignments that are given are pretty nice and you have a valid amount of time to ideate and create them. The difficulty is high but it also makes you think and create better creatives so it's a win win

The college provides one internship in semester 6 but personally ive gotten internships through personal contacts and it's much better because sometimes you can get paid as well. You can start of with holistics internships to better understand your likes and dislikes and then get a specialised internship to learn more.

In the last semester placement offers come up l. The placements aren't extremely great and only a few get very good packages but the average package is not bad. You can also get a very good placement from your internship and continue working there itself.

Every year the fees increase by 20K, this year (2024) the academic fees per semester is 1.7L and the hostel fees are 1.7L for the year. the tution fees is 1.5L and the rest are mediclaim and other miscellaneous fees for exams and library. There are scholarships and you can avail them if your family makes annually under a certain income. If your are eligible you can get upto 90% scholarship as well.

The college is great, festivals and events are celebrated nicely. Since the change is director there are high hopes for better social gatherings and events. The library or resource centre is slowly getting advanced there is new interface to help in getting books. There are 4 clubs and 3 act based societies being dance, music and theatre. There are language based groups but it depends on who you are comfortable interacting with.

The meals at the hostel aren't great and are sometimes the sole reason why people move out. The registration process is fine but there is not a lot of accommodation since the number of seats are increasing everywhere but accomodation isn't. I have rented an apartment nearby to the college and also the hostel is far from the college(3Km) and so transport and traffic every morning is a problem.

OoFor us to get into NIFT there is a gat cat exam meaning general aptitude and creative aptitude. After clearing the exam you get into the studio test where a bunch of materials is given and topics, from the topics you choose one and make a model from the existing materials. I had studied according to the UCEED exam and other than UCEED exam I cleared all others and didn't really need to study for the rest.

My faculty is great for AD( accessory design ) they are very open and in interested in new ideas. It's very easy to communicate with them and they are more of a young crew making their teaching lessons more contemporary and less traditional. The exams is which our faculties sit tend to go wel since they give constructive criticism and are actually valid points to increase efficiency and design skills.
