What Students Say
Likes
- The quality of infrastructure, hostels. Mess food is good. Rooms are very good. Cleanliness everywhere
- Quality of education. Studying in one of the premium institutes of india gives a self confidence boost.
- Student life is never boring. There is always an event coming up and the hostel life with the friends you gonna make is amazing.
Dislikes
- Student intake as there are approx 2500 students enrolling every year
- Teacher student interaction as the class size in lectures is around 200 depending on the branch
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is mixed with some subjects genuinely interesting and helping our career whereas some are just because they have always been there. Obviously in today's age you don't need to do anything manually like old days as better equipment is there and everything is ai based now. In my branch that is vlsi design, there is no need of welding, casting still I have to do that . There should be subjects based on the branch even in the first year like iiits
Internships Opportunities
There are summer projects after every year and you can enroll in them and the 6th/8th semester is the internship semester based on branch. The projects offered have a wide list with every branch prospect there
Placement Experience
Placements are very nice . The highest package this year was 55 lpa with average of 12lpa. Approx 300 companies visit every year with the placements of CSE department and ECE department ranking amongst the best whereas other branches placement is also good. Companies start visiting at the end of 6th semester
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is comparatively high as compared to other institutes but as a private university,Thapar is among the best institutes of the country for engineering. The quality of education ,infrastructure and student life are all worth it. There is financial assistance and scholarship programs available. Student loans at minimal interest are available. Scholarships are based on merit, financial condition and you have to get a certain cg to retain it.
Campus Life
There are events almost everytime and you won't be bored at any time as you can indulge yourself in clubs, societies ,sports. There are too many societies for students that offer cinema, theatre , finance , music , tech etc. You can join any of your choice. Sports complex is very big with a cricket ground , football ground, basketball , volleyball ,badminton, tt, lawn tennis, squash ,swimming.
Hostel Facilities
There are 16 hostels,9 for boys and 7 for girls. Rooms are available from 1s to 4s ac non ac both. Rooms are furnished with table chairs, beds , almirahs. Hostels are divided into blocks with each block having atleast 20 Rooms on each floor. My experience is of h hostel which is 4 seater. The non ac Rooms have bigger tables which are helpful for putting laptop, pen copies whereas ac Rooms don't have bigger tables and only laptop or copy can be fitted on it. Mess quality is good but the repetitive menu makes it boring after a time. Obviously you can't get the quality of home cooked food but the food is eatable with a night canteen provided in every hostel till 12 am and 2 am during exams. Hostels are affordable and worth the price.
Admission
The form of thapar comes mostly after the jee 1st attempt and the admission if based on jee result as well as boards result. You can find the application form on thapar site. Application fees was I guess 1000 rs and the Application form last days are till the 2nd attempt result. You can get a seat in a good branch jn thapar if your percentile is>85 and computer branches mostly close at 92-93 percentile. Results come after the board result of 1st round and there are 4 to 5 rounds before spot round
Faculty
All the faculties are highly qualified with doctorates from premium institutes of the country and abroad. Some professors genuinely try their best to teach while some just come to the class and read ppts. You can interact with the teacher not frequently face to face as there are too many students but online you can always connect to them with class groups made
