What Students Say
Likes
- The best thing about Delhi University is how accessible it is. All a student has to do is keep their head down and work their heart out for entrance exams and nothing else. I studied for my entrance CUET for about 2 months regularly. I stuck to what
- my seniors had told me. Secondly, the beautiful infrastructure. The buildings of Delhi University have a remarkable shade of brick red. There is so much rawness in these buildings, so much history. Some even date back to pre-1900s. Thirdly, the fees.
- As a marginalized person of the society, it was viral that I take admission into a college that was affordable for my family and what better than Delhi University itself. That's why I said that all you have to do to get here is study and work hard.
Dislikes
- There are not a lot of things I dislike about Delhi University. The only thing that I'm not a fan of is the latest student crowd. Gen Z as they call themselves. Secondly, I don't like rude professors. I do understand their struggles as a teacher but
- I do not appreciate the tone of some of my professors. One improvement I would suggest is to improve the political stigma that freshers go through. As a fresher, it's really hard to choose the next President/Prime Minister. Therefore, I think it's
- wise not to pressure them, rather encourage them.
Course Curriculum Overview
My course is Economics Honours. While I hada knack for this course for around 4 years before joining college, choosing it at Hindu involved factors like their intense curriculum and the practical subject matter that they were teaching. I'm two semesters in and I've already used some of the concepts taught in consulting projects that I've worked on. It prepared me well for the outside world and gave me enough confidence. Some improvements that I'd suggest are incorporating online sessions for core subjects once a week as it would really help students to get caught up. As far as the exams are concerned, they are really good. The continuous assessments that are held every week make it easier to complete the syllabus so the final papers don't feel that terminal.
Internships Opportunities
As a Placement Cell coordinator, I can say that Hindu hosts top companies like McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Accenture, DE Shaw every year. The stipend ranges from 3000-20000+ with roles spread across all forms viz. HR, Sales, Marketing, Business Development, Analyst, Consulting etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tution fee hike, to me, is not that alarming to me. As far as the regularity is concerned, it's happened once in 5-6 years and it's not a big one. The rate is pretty normal given the facilities we are able to find at our college. The complete cost of my education per year is around 30000. Scholarships are really well addressed at Hindu. There are help desks, people working throughout the year for all sorts of university and college scholarships. As far as campus employments are concerned,I'm a part of the Placement Cell and 180DC. The responsibilities do not take up more than 8 hours combined for both societies. While they do not pay us, there are regular reachable moments and learning moments that we go through which is great.
Campus Life
The festivals include Kurtosis, Mecca, Nexus among others. These are mostly held in your second semester, including Founder's Day. The library is extensive but the DU online library has everything a student needs and for free. Classrooms are pumped with projectors and ACs. There are numerous labs for technical subjects like Statistics, Botany etc. There's a sports complex which is home to numerous equipments. There are around 15 societies in Hindu for theatre, dance, music, art etc. each.
Admission
The eligibility of my course was CUET where English, Maths and Economics was compulsory. The application form is available on the Samarth website. It's common for most universities in India. Fees depend on the number of papers you choose. And applications open mostly in February every year. Reservation benefits are applied post your results and depends on the college if they want to give you one. Exams are moderately difficult. The frequency and timing is however tight and difficult to catch on. The only improvement I'd suggest is that they do what they promise and decide instead of always changing exam dates one day before.
Faculty
The faculty situation at my college, Hindu is a solid 8.The experienced professors of my department Being able to interact with them through various offline and online mediums. My professors have always reached out to us and have always given us the freedom to reach out to them whenever we want for academic or non-academic matters. Their use of visuals and practical experience during teaching - Professors in my department have always helped us grasp the concept by using insightful ppts and solid anecdotes from their experiences.
